Diablo III |OT2| Queues Rise. Servers Fall.

Ive been wanting to screw around on the AH to list an item or two. Was about to do this last night when maintenance popped up so I figured Id do it in the morning before work.
Maintainance again. Fuck.

I'm at lvl 44 and sitting at 8600 hp with my Wizard. 1300 dps (weapon buff spell). if you're getting two shot by things, invest into some hp gear to get you going. You'll end up doing a lot of running/kiting if you're going solo. Hydra's are extremely helpful with this.

Yeah, I have been banking vitality gear and going with full on DPS. Worked really well until nightmare. Now it is pretty tough getting 2-3 shot. Also I should move my skill points around for better kiting.

You're just mad because you can't drop bells on people.

The moment I hit Level 12 I basically shouted into Skype "FUCK YES BELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL"

I have no regrets.

Clearly you're the cause of the maintenance :x

I totally want to sell just enough stuff in Diablo 3 to be able to transfer $60 to Battle.net to buy Starcraft II. I wonder how easy (or hard) it will be to make obtain that goal.

Servers are down AGAIN? I really like the game but this is horrible. Blizzard really needs to get rid of this stupid drm. Just let me play the single player game i payed for.

Haha, I liked using it for awhile but the novelty wore off eventually, that thing just takes too much Spirit for my liking. Maybe once I get some better runes for it I'll give it another shot.

I was just thinking about this. I wonder what the average Legendary will sell for? $1.00 or so maybe?

Witch Doctor balance feels so broken. Why use anything other than Soul Harvest + Dire Bats?

There's no reason that I'm finding, it's still my main attack. Just throw out a acid rain every once in a while for the short DoT effect. Although in one more level I do get zombie bears and they actually look promising.

Although for boss fights I'm finding haunt (consuming spirits) and locust swarm (cloud of insects) a lot more effective than soul harvest as there usually isn't enough to get up to 5 stacks, and the DoT's are nice so you can move around a lot. I usually take the two DoTs over harvest and dire bats/zombie dogs depending on the fight. Also I've been starting to use hedge wizard in nightmare and hell and it's actually pretty effective. So nice to disable 1 mob pretty much the entire fight.

There is an absolutely massive difference between good and poor gear of the same level. A bit of frugal AHing and I've more than doubled my HP pool and increased my DPS without sacrificing my Magic Find.

Anyway, I feel like as somewhat of a spirital successor to Diablo 2, this game is fantastic.. But as Diablo 3, there are a lot of things I'm disappointed in. Not least of which is the absolutely horrible storyline, riddled with storytelling cliches and completely devoid of the dark, foreboding atmosphere that was in D2.

I can only assume that unless you have three other dedicated skilled players and you're willing to spend a lot of time farming it would be very difficult. I think you'd be better off opening a lemonade stand, but I'm cynical.

wtf is this shit?
I can't play. holy fuck I'm in the first city and I can't enter the first dungeon 'cause it keeps disconnecting me.

You must be talking about something else, because Diablo 3 isn't a single player game.

When I read all this here I'm kinda happy I'll be getting the game next week.

You just jinxed it. It'll still be broken next week! :(

Family is visiting today, so my playtime will definitely be limited as well, I'm praying things are smoothed out over the next few days for a long weekend here in Canuck land, so the limited time I do have, I'll actually be able to play.

It's depressing to wonder how many posts in this thread are purely about being disgruntled with the damn server troubles :(

I wasn't sure how that worked. I had a +7 str ring, and a +2-4 damage ring. The +2-4 damage ring added 9 more than the strength ring to the damage on my invetory screen.

I was going to edit this elsewhere but, hey, it's been like 20 posts since that one so ...!

+2-4 damage Ring means it adds on average 3 Damage per hit. This does not scale with Attack Speed so Faster weapons skew this a bit (e.g., if you have 1.5 Attacks per second, this is +4.5 DPS instead of +3 DPS). For the sake of this example, I'll just stick to 1.0 Attacks per second but felt like mentioning this. So, at 1.0 Attacks per second, this Ring will add, on average, 3 Damage per hit per second or +3 DPS.

Anyway, this +3 Damage is just added directly to your weapon(s) and THEN modified by your Crit Modifiers (which, for low levels, will be something around a +10% increase). Now, assuming you have 100 in your Stat, that whole thing is then multiplied by +100% Damage ... which gets us to around +7-ish DPS.

Hilariously effective early, less so later on when intelligence on items starts scaling up drastically and SH stops tripling your DPS.

That's good to hear.

Right now it's basically:

Run in in soul form
Soul Harvest and run out
Spam Direbats til OOM
Spiders or Firebombs

Use Haunt on bosses for a life leech DoT.
Use Guargantuan to keep enemies off me.

You must be talking about something else, because Diablo 3 isn't a single player game.

Don't worry, if Blizzard gave them a single player mode they'd bitch about not being able to bring that character online, or use the auction house.

It's always something.

The lag is fucking ridiculous atm. Haven't been able to move for 5 mins. :( Found 2 rares just before, wonder if I'll lose them if I get booted..

Goddamn, I'm installing on my OS X partition and it's taking forever. Anyone have this issue? I have a SSD but it went fine on the windows partition.

That's really weird, I haven't thought of my gear as that great. Then again I do have 248 dexterity, many of my items have +3-6 damage, and my bow is 35 dps with 9-41 damage.

/blurgh beaten. I forgot the servers are down so the PPS (posts per second) of this thread are through the roof currently.

The Monks crippling attack is so cool. I kinda wish he was Asian though. Something about the Russian accent really breaks the feel of the character. When I think martial arts monk I don't think thick Russian accent. I know, nit picking but still.

Whoa whoa whoa, the +dmg is added BEFORE your +%dmg from stats is added?
Looking at +dmg in a whole new light with my 450 str.

Anyone asking about drop rates: they're dog shit in this game. It's one of my MAJOR complaints. not enough unique/set items at low levels, so you don't have things like arctic furs, sigon's, treads, all that shit to look whet your appetite. Yeah it's a loot game and some stuff needs to be rare, but making it so every single legendary is like a once a year event just doesn't give you enough of a taste for getting excited about killing shit.

When I've killed every boss in this game on the first 3 difficulties multiple times each and NEVER seen anything but a yellow (and even then, only yellows on normal the first time where they're guaranteed. I have NEVER seen an act boss even drop a rare item on NM or Hell. Neither has anyone I play with)....it's a bit fucking stupid. I have one unique, a shit witch doctor mask from a champ group in NM act 1. One of my guildmates has a wizard hat from normal. Everyone else in my wow guild that plays (probably 10 people) and EVERYONE ELSE ON MY FRIENDS LIST (which is a shitton of people) have a combined total of 2 unique items. The vast majority of us are level 60 or nearing it, it's pretty fucking silly.

They really needed MORE unique and set items so that you could have them doled out throughout the game, instead of smashing 90% of them at level 60 required inferno drops. As it is I don't even get excited to kill bosses anymore, it's turned into a sad joke that all you're going to get is some shitty 50 dps normal mode magic item.

Before anyone says 'magic find lol' go look up the items. there are BARELY any uniques or set items to get at all, and in D1 and D2 you would get SOME of this stuff without needing to stack that MF while you levelled.

Game is great, but if people don't get a bone once in a while they won't stay for the real meat and potatoes of item farming.

A little late, but I just noticed this. So is there going to be skill mods on equipment?

How would that work?

If they ever do add them, there's three shared skill slots (Primary, Secondary, Defensive) so all items can potentially get those. Class Unique things could then get the others. But it'd be a nightmare in terms of balancing since not all skills get to be treated equally (+10% to Wizard Force skills, for instance, would mean very different things for every singe skill there).

So ... no idea if they'll do them.

this lol...

plus its a single player f***ing game!
People really need to stop using this line. It's no more a single player game than Guild Wars is. Yet, GW requires you to be online 100% too. Sure you can play alone, but the game was designed from the ground up to be battle.net enabled and played online with drop-in/drop-out multiplayer and auction house functionality. They made this clear years ago. People need to stop blaming Blizzard because they're bad consumers and buy things they don't agree with.

Very true, and seemingly odd to me. The over under on the stat values across all tiers seems to be MASSIVE on rares, but far more concentrated on uniques.

I got way more of a Torchlight vibe out of my first playthrough than I did a D2 vibe. But I spose we have market research to thank for that. Nothing to be done about it now tho, and while it is disappointing it won't stop me from playing.

Drops rates are hightened the first time you kill a boss for each character. Afterwards the drop rates dramatically fall off.

Yeah there were a lot of lower level item sets in D2. Some parts were rare and hard to find but were still there. I personally haven't seen a legendary, unique or set item (do they even exist?)

Yeah, +Damage on your equipment is added on top of your Weapon damage _and then_ Attack speed is factored, then crit modifiers, then Stat modifiers, and then whatever skill you're using.

+3 Damage at 500 STR all of a sudden means a lot :x

If my party quits mid-dungeon, and then resumes game later, can I travel back to last checkpoint, or just the last waypoint?

I hate to be cynical but I wonder if drop rates were lowered somewhat in order to increase Blizzard's earnings from the real money AH?

Regardless, this is disappointing to hear.

Trying to get a Strafe build to work, but I can't shake the feeling my damage output is just bad compared to all the other options of the DH class.
