Lack of RE6 on Wii U would just puzzle me more than anything. Developing two RE titles for the 3DS in its first year but not giving the Wii U a cheap port of RE6 strikes me as an odd set of business decisions.

If RE6 isn't on Wii U by end of Q1 2013, I would be shocked. I don't think Capcom will pass on the opportunity to double dip on Nintendo owners by just releasing the Gold version next fall.

It wouldn't shock me if Mercs was there in some form, either.

Despite bleeding money for the past 500 years, Sony is a much larger company that so many people are invested in. They aren't just a hardware company. Movies, music, film production products, tvs and computers (lol) and so on. It'll take a lot to bring them down.
Too big to fail indeed.
Not that I want Sony to fail. I like a lot of what they do. I simply don't agree with their gaming philosophy this generation.
Sad its mostly "I hate animegaf/furry gaf" "Devo sucks" "down with ponygaf" confessions :/

So... It's just normal GAF with slightly more anonymity?

Rule 34 of GAF: Is a GAFer exists, someone will masturbate to them.

PS2, IIRC.

I actually kind of wonder if we're at the point where we probably could render Toy Story-level graphics without too much issue. It wasn't exactly the most detailed movie in existence, pretty much being the first fully CG one and all. Still, there are still details like fully polygonal blades of grass that they could get away with in render farms, but probably not a real-time situation...
Well there's this:
The process of rendering the films — or translating computer data into images — was vastly accelerated by current technology. Where the original “Toy Story” required an hour per frame to create, Mr. Lasseter said, rendering the new 3-D version took less than 1/24th of a second per frame.
— Disney Seeks Buzz With ‘Toy Story’ Re-Release, The Wall Street Journal, September 4, 2009
So they were getting real time a few years ago...with a massive render farm.

I wish E3 would hurry up and get here. Once I've seen what's in store early on for the Wii U I can decide whether to plan on getting one before E3 2013.

As of right now it's not looking too likely.

Whatever they're doing that causes them to fire workers in the thousands every 1 or 2 years needs to stop, definitely.

IGN put up its second survey of what 62,000 gamers want out of the next-generation. Overall, the results for the Wii U were poor. Click the link for to see the rest of the coverage.

Any survey taken right now could only tell us people's current expectations for the systems. While I guess that's kind of interesting, nobody has a truly informed opinion about anything at this point, especially not the PS4 and Xbox 3.

Those particle effects are gonna look way more awesome in motion, but I see why people are feeling underwhelmed at these screens. I think the most important aspect of UE4 is going to be how dev-friendly it is - it seems to be employing measures that will reduce the time and effort required to build and test levels etc. I hope Epic decides to make the engine scalable enough that developers can benefit from the valuable tools even if they can't utilise as many particle and other effects as they could on more powerful hardware. I'm slightly more optimistic about the prospect of UE4 on Wii U now, though I am still skeptical about major multiformat UE4 games getting Wii U ports.

The pictures at 1080p just don't look completely beyond what we have now, the argument changes a bit at those 2500p shots on CVG...@1080p they are a step up sure, but I'm not sure they are really THAT impressive, especially considering that that demo took 14 people 3 months (that is a cost of $350,000 if each dev makes 100k a year) and that is without anything you could consider a game, we know the bird demo was rushed, but we figure it was made in less time with a smaller budget, it wasn't even ready for the conference but was done for the floor model...

My question is, is next gen really looking that impressive? that far beyond stuff like Uncharted 3, witcher 2, BF3 and Crysis 3? I don't really think it does, especially if those lighting effects in the Bird demo are real, and considering they were added between the conference video version and the floor version, I suspect that they are... Wii U should be fine.

Didn't Sony once claim that the PS2 or PS3 would be capable of Toy Story level graphics?
I believe the official statement was that the PS2 could produce images comparable to movie quality 3D graphics in real time. I dont think i've seen Sony speficially mention Toy Story 2, i've only seen the general press say it.

That's the point I've been hitting repeatedly.

But then again, everything just looks "pretty" to me after a certain point, and comparisons beyond that threshold seem more like nit picking..

I'm gonna get crazy here.

Here's my final E3 prediction; The Public reveal of the UE4 Tech Demo will be on stage at the Nintendo Press Conference.

KEEP. READING. Before calling me insane. (Even if I am.)

First, we have this from last year's E3:

Joystick said:
He summarized it by saying, "'If Nintendo made a system that could run our engine, we'd be on it like water on fish.' And so when someone asked me what I thought about the Wii U, I said, 'Water, meet fish.'" Seems pretty direct if you ask us!

Then we got this:

Eurogamer said:
Epic VP Mark Rein will be shocked if the Wii U isn't a hit for Nintendo when it launches later this year.

Then the UE4 Tech Demo was shown privately and Mister Rein mentioned a NDA prevented them from showing it to the public.

The developer hopes a public showing of UE4 could arrive later this year but it's "not up to us" says Epic.

Now they are announcing that the public revealing will be done in June. (Obviously pointing at E3). What NDA do we know of (or at least we know is very much present, albeit not confirmed, and it could still be another NDA, I concur) that ends in June?

Everything clicks, everything connects. I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but it just makes so much sense. Sony and MS have been denying time and time again that their next console WON'T be at E3.

What method are you guys going to use to get the WiiU at launch?

Previously I always stood in front of Toys'R'US early morning of launch day. This worked great for both GC and Wii.

I wonder if I should do the same for WiiU.

Found a GAF thread that says you're right:

Seems Blackley (former head of Microsoft's Xbox division) said it about the Xbox, though.

Wait, why are we only hearing of this now? That quote's huge.

UE4 at NCONF? *jasonbatemanno.gif*

No way. No fucking way. If only because demonstrating a fucking engine above the games that use it seems like such a un-Nintendo move.

“It is up to Epic, and Tim Sweeney in particular, to motivate Sony and Microsoft not to phone in what these next consoles are going to be. It needs to be a quantum leap. They need to damn near render Avatar in real time, because I want it and gamers want it—even if they don’t know they want it...

BECAUSE NINTENDO IS ALREADY ON BOARD WITH WII U!"

._.

I'm an ignorant bastard. Can someone explain to me what is so special about the unreal engine.

Epic dissed Nintendo hard when Wii couldn't support UE3. They were extremely disrespectful.

People used that moment to define the difference between Wii and PS3 and Xbox360.

People don't want the same situation again with WiiU since it will make them feel that WiiU isn't a "real" next gen console.

Microsoft or Sony will end their show with a tease of the future. Will get a full days worth of media attention before Nintendo even hits the stage.

Will be an interesting E3

It is mostly about getting game support. A lot of games uses the unreal engine, and since the Wii couldnt handle it (Unreal Engine 3), it lost out of many games.

It drains money from developers while killing them slowly.
What is a cheaper and better alternative?

The strangest thing is, despite Sony doing badly at the moment, despite the Vita's absolutely abysmal launch, I still haven't seen a single article suggesting that Sony should go third party and make games for iPhone - whereas you see lots of sites practically demanding this of Nintendo.

Man you care about this stuff too much, just enjoy your games :/

I'm keeping that prediction. I know there's 99% chances I'm wrong. But if SOMEHOW I get that 1%, I want my 15 minutes of glory.

Too big to fail indeed.
Not that I want Sony to fail. I like a lot of what they do. I simply don't agree with their gaming philosophy this generation.

Why do you not agree? Sure the PS3 conceptually was reckless, but their 1st party support has been fantastic (even if some aspects are... erm... unoriginal).

But yeah... they CAN fail... just... not as likely.

Lets hope so, and I'll add that I hope the same is true for Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite also.

While I think Resident Evil 6 and Tomb Raider might do OK on Wii U, I don't think Bioshock Infinite will. It's just the kind of game that as this point only sells to existing franchise fans, and mainly on 360. I think the game will sell poorly on all platforms actually. It should have been a launch game for the next Xbox console.

All of that sounds like to me that Microsoft (or maybe Sony) has the first bid at showing their console running UE4 and they were waiting to find out when they would unveil the console.

According to folks earlier on this page (or was it ten pages ago?), the Unreal Engine has top of the line support and is just really easy to work with to get pretty graphics without having to code to the metal.

300k is nothing for a gif animation. Well, unless "over 300k" means that it is 40MB lol (it is over 300k).

That's good. It means I don't have to disrespect Iwata's awesome jacket by doing "--color 256".

*kicks GameplayWhore in the nuts and runs*

Your feeble attempt to evade my logic won't-- *falls unconscious in painful agony*

The poll on IGN isn't that useful. People that browse IGN and take their time to fill in a poll there are pretty much very interested in videogames and will buy next consoles anyway. And it makes sense for them to pick graphics out of those options. For MS or Sony it's much more interesting what people that don't browse IGN want. Personally I think services are the most important. That is why Apple is so popular now, not because the new Ipad can do slightly better visuals.

What is their gaming philosohpy?

In comparison, most gif animations i've seen being posted on NeoGAF are at least 1MB. I've never seen anyone being banned for that.

@BY2K: Stop trying to outcrazy me! DON'T TAKE MAH JERB!

I really fear that UE4 will take all attention away from everything else at E3.

Is Wii U really as underpowered as it seems? That you have to put pics of 360 games next to Wii U games in order to notice a marginal difference? From what you said, it's smaller than the GC->Wii jump...

All of that sounds like to me that Microsoft (or maybe Sony) has the first bid at showing their console running UE4 and they were waiting to find out when they would unveil the console.

If Sony or Microsoft had any doubt about showing their next console at E3, they would have said something like "We don't comment on rumours/speculations." No, here they flat out said they won't show it. Kaz Hirai himself said it about the PS4.
