I actually saw this displayed over here last Christmas. Pretty cool.

Looking good! A new fire station is also being built here; the construction work has begun:

Dang, Green Grocer is so hot.

What are the odds that the R2D2 build is going to be OOP in the next few months? I know it just came out, but I'm thinking of getting one of those modular sets first before I get ARTOO.

I've been lurking this thread for a while (my 2 yo boy is in love with Duplo blocks, so I'm hoping to soon graduate him to the real thing) and thanks to you all, have just purchased the VW Kombi set - should be with me in a week.

One thing though, the price disparity between the US and Australia is ridiculous - picked it up for $119 US, where in Aust, they're trying to gouge you for $279.99!!!

There is a very smart lad in this thread from Australia also. I think he is using a website that gets him U.S. prices and then pays and ships it to him. His post is a few pages back.

Where'd you end up getting it?

Well, it's a bit of a pain in the arse, but my MIL is going to US on Sunday, so I'm getting it delivered from amazon.com to where she is staying, and she is bringing it back.

If you have an easier way, please let me know (it'll cost me a fortune to keep sending her on trips to US!!)

I posted a MOC x-wing design a few weeks ago. The pieces from bricklink arrived a while back and I wanted to post the pics of my completed x-wing. I made many changes to the design while building it. When designing in LDD you don't exactly get a feel for the stability in some areas.

That stand is just temporary for the pictures only. I was debating whether or not to build an actual stand. Maybe one day.

I have a 10-20% off coupon for toys r us (depending on how much you spend) that works in store only. Anyone want it? I can send it to you if you want.

EDIT: Gone. Tedesco! got it.

Still dislike that I'm gonna be buying The Sun a few times over the next week. Mainly just the Batman and Star Wars sets and the Ninja one on the bottom right there.

A plus from ordering off that Overstock.com website... I managed to get a 10% off coupon in my shipping confirmation email. That 10% coupon can be used on Lego sets. I was just checking and could have the Millenium Falcon for $114 with free shipping.

Just a heads-up, since I know some others here recently ordered that yellow car on Overstock as well.

I walked to the Lego Discovery Center in Kansas City, and walked away with the Cosmic Cube Escape and The White House. I get home and find that a friend sent me Brickly. It's been a good Lego day....

Hey, I'm planning on going to KC in a couple weeks with the family! Plan on hitting the Lego Store for the store model.

Incoming GAF meetup?

The REAL Lego store won't open up until June 1st in Overland Park. I don't know the whole story, but the gift shop, "Lego Store", at Legoland Discovery isn't really associated with Lego. No VIP. No mini-Hulk. The only benefit is that annual card holders get 10% off all merchandise. Still, it's not a bad time and my son enjoys the combo Legoland/Aquarium.

Ah, thought I read the store opened this past week; I knew the Discovery Center was open, as a friend went there last weekend. :D

If June 1 is the opening day, well, that place is going to suck with the crowds.

Edit:

Only working on this for like an hour a week, but it is slowly evolving. It started as a regular bar with a stage for a band, but it is slowly morphing into a coffee bar for acoustic night or poetry readings. Think I can add more little details with that.

Interior so far. Only the stage (with no details) so far.

Exterior, complete with outside seating.

Trying some weird stuff with LDD. It is neat having unlimited bricks, but really, REALLY hard to get the chains to do what I want in the program. Was going to use string parts for ropes but could not find them.

Set is huge. Enjoy. While I did not find it as fun as Fire Brigade, it is still a nice set. The roof is boss to put together though.

Me? Patiently waiting for my Grand Emporium to show up. I have high hopes for that one.

Grand Emporium looks so bad ass. It will be my next modular but I think I will wait for double points.

I am impatient and need to get all the modulars now. Then the bug to get them will subside and I can move onto things like R2D2 and the Sopwith Camel. I will be getting some LOTR sets in June though.

Grand Emporium was the best looking of all the in print modulars to me, but I started with Fire Brigade because it was about to go OOP. Town Hall I got during double VIP just because it was Lego exclusive at the time and also wanted a set that not many on GAF had gotten yet. Made me feel early to the party for once, where I am years late to the modular party. Now I am filling in the gaps. All that is left is Pet Shop for in print modulars. Not going to do the OOP ones. Too damn expensive.

Yeah I started with Fire Brigade as well. It's all I have in the modular line currently. During the last double points I got that and the Imperial Shuttle. My backlog is getting rather large as I need more space to put some of this stuff. My desk at work is covered with tons of minifigs and mini Star Wars ships as well.

I went Fire Brigade > Emporium > Pet Shop > Town Hall.

Have to say FB is the my favourite so far. The brick effect is just amazing and it has a freakin table tennis table.

Dat brick texture! Yeah, second floor was one of the best things ever. The brick texture, the table tennis table, the kitchen, and a frakkin' fridge with hot dogs in it! It is bad that that was my first modular, because all others will have to measure up to that second floor.

And about that brick texture, the modular MOC I am making in LDD is exploiting that big time, but with a few little tweaks. Like curved sides. I dont want to go too crazy with it when I move onto the second floor. Need some variety. But I need to finish the first floor first.

How's the Helicarrier Breakout set in terms of quality? I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on the Quinjet Aerial Battle and the Captain America Cycle sets, but I really want that (not so mini) Hulk mini figure that comes with the breakout set.

It looks boring, and most reviews say the same. But I want it for the big Hulk fig too. The Cap set is pretty boring. I got it just for Cap, but the set is pretty lame.

Yep, the whole second level is amazing. The rest of the modulars I have pale in comparison when it comes to interior detail.

Besides the minifigs I find the whole Avenger line of sets to be underwhelming. LOTR looks like much of the same as well unfortunately, at least for my tastes.

Ditto on the LOTR sets. Helms Deep looks above average, but I really want the mini figs. Sad that the best looking set is the smallest one, Gandalf's Arrival.

I hope the line does well though, because that means we could get some really crazy sets. Hoping for some 10000 series stuff in the LOTR line. I know that most here dream of a insane Minas Tirith set. Easiest UCS set they could do is Isengard.

I'm especially disappointed in the Attack on Weathertop set. It would have been amazing as a $100 set instead of the one they've gone with. It's just far too small to do it justice.

Ucs Rivendell here we come!

Actually, that would be a very difficult set to pull off and make it look good.

Edoras would be tough if you did the entire place, but just the Golden Hall would be an easy to market and design set while looking very nice.

I would build a stand for it if I were you!

dang, i think its too late to jump on the modulars train is it?
if some models already oop, collecting all of them would be way too expensive for me.

Do what I and many others did, start with Fire Brigade while it is still around. So awesome and fun. And if you keep puttin off getting into the modulars it will only get worse.

Yeah why not :D
I did add a tiny watermark to it though, if you don't mind.

cool, thanks, decided to go with an original design in the end though :)

Don't forget there's instructions for a 4th model on Lego's site.
orly, didnt know that, I shall have to check that out.

my son did a stop motion animation workshop during the school holidays, and yesterday he got a little lego set in the post from them which we weren't expecting. Small but it was a cool little build, with lots of nice pieces

so does that mean we will see revenge of the scarab stop motion movie soon?

A reminder to UK GAF:

The Sun's daily LEGO giveaway starts TOMORROW (Saturday).

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Saturday for me. Batman and Ninjas, can't go wrong. Don't care about the city stuff, and already bought a star destroyer a few weeks ago (nice timing :/ )

what are you using for the curves around the door? Looks really flush. Is it a normal curved brick and then a slope to blend into the wall? Can't see the seam which is confusing me.

you going to share the LDD when you're done?

there are only a couple out of print - cafe corner and Green grocer. Cafe corner is crazy money, but you can get the bricks from bricklink and build it yourself if you like. TBH I wouldn't bother - its an interesting build but has no interior, and more recent sets are more interesting IMO. Green Grocer looks nice though and isn't quite so expensive if you get the bug.

Plus the next set might be a restaurant, so you won't mind missing a cafe then :)

Jump in with Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium, the others will be around for ages.

looks like a small 1x1 sloped tile, next to a 2x1 tile followed by a normal arch
