I'm frikin enjoying the game so much. Single player

Tried online, got in with a bunch of Asians (I'm assuming from the names characters), none of them was chatting or anything, they rushed through everything and it wasn't fun. I left after 5 minutes and continued my single player campaign

Going back now :)

Is there like a GAF community or something where I can play with you guys? I'm level 8 :P .. Wizard.. I kickass though

Good question. I'm only level 11 and haven't tried online because all my friends are hardcore players. They are already 35 or so hours into their characters. I have today off so I plan to get some good time into my demon hunter in single player, I guess.

In hell this is what I'm running

Gear gemmed with topaz, except weapon with ruby, aiming for intelligence/vit/magic find, using int/vit shield (shield might be good idea for later nm acts but I used mojo for most of the game).

Poison Darts with Splinter
Dire Bats
Grasp of the Dead with Increased Slow
Spirit Walk with 30% mana regen
Soul Harvest with Leech
Gargantuan with Poison Cloud (before I used the super buff every 120 seconds)

Jungle Fortitude
Spirit Vessel
Gorge Feast (the one that gvies you intelligence from orbs).

If you're in a group with a tank, I would recommend hex and the totem that buffs attackspeed with either the duration increase if you have people who rely on attack speed or the damage upgrade if you have more casters. The damage upgrade is more useful for fights where you're on the run. Always change your skill set based on the situation.

Yeah man. The AH is crazy now. Personally I love it. I'm so decked out now that I didn't even get close to dying in act 2, and didn't even break a sweat for the act 2 boss.

I understand that to a lot of people that isn't fun - but to me the meta gaming of the AH is the closest thing to the anarchy of the early days of D2. Also since I love selling stuff all yellows that drop are exciting to me just in hopes that it fits one of the five demographics.

For me it's the opposite. If I bought all the items I needed then finding a rare wouldn't matter as much. Something about finding each item and being excited every time something drops makes me like Diablo better.

I have yet to use the AH, and will probably wait until I hit nightmare. Even then, I don't want to just buy my way through the game. But I totally understand the meta gaming of the AH. On my next character I will probably use the AH more often.

The AH completely breaks the game, just like everyone said it would. Fortunately, you can just not use it!

My feelings exactly.

Bind on equip might be a good idea...

That would help.

Started a Wizard a couple games ago for groups with my two friends from North Carolina. They had a Wizard and Witch Doctor already so I'm all like, "welp, 3 INT classes I see no way this could possibly go wrong". Then I unlocked Spectral Blade or something sometime around level 10, looked at Frost Nova and Diamond Skin, and had a revelation:

Melee Wizard. (build is lvl 19)

Got gear for Life+ on hit and kill as well as some regen, and almost as much VIT as INT so I am not too squishy. I switched my character up so I'm mostly running solo and moved the monk over to group content. I'm loving this build so far and I want to see how far I can take it.

Any tips GAF?

Re: video quality of the cinematics

I didn't know what you guys were talking about when you said it was blocky and shitty quality. Now I know why... I think it's because the physical boxed copy has all the cinematics in much higher quality since there's no downloading needed, it's all on the DVD. They look picture perfect for me.

Glorious physical boxed copy race.

My god, act 2 boss on hell is just fucking ridiculous. I have over 20k hp and a certain attack that is really fucking hard to avoid just one shots me. Fuck that shit...

paging yoshi to tell me how this would be harder if I was in a 4 man party, where the other team members that survive could just res and let the fight go on.

Oh, definitely. I did that yesterday and it was awful. Took like six tries. And you have to suffer through all of the lead-up every single time too.

It doesn't help with avoiding that attack, but keep in mind that if you're quick you can swap skills before the part of the fight where he starts using it.

Math time!

I've seen several people ask about +damage versus +primaryability, here's the scoop.

Suppose you find an item that gives you an average of +D damage.

The percent of extra damage you will get by equiping that item will be:

(((WEAPON DAMAGE + D ) / WEAPON DAMAGE) -1) * 100

where weapon damage is equal to your base weapon damage + all other +damage modifiers you already have.

Now, suppose instead that you equip an item that give you +B bonus primary stat.

Percent of extra damage you get will be:

(((100 + Primary Stat + B) / (100 + Primary Stat) -1) * 100

where Primary stat is equal to your primary stat before equiping the new item (including any other +stat you've already got).

The main observation is that in both cases, you're going to get diminishing returns. If you already have a lot of +Damage, then each additional point will get you propertionally less. The same is true for +attr gear. Basically, you're likely going to want a mix of the 2.

So I plotted this and here's what I learned.

EUCvu.png

The higher your Primary Stat is the more a %+ATTR will benefit you. However! %+ATTR benefit is asymptotically limited to 1/1. So a +10% ATTR will at best result in a +10%DMG output.

+DMG as a % of your current damage will always outperform an equivalent %+ATTR benefit. The benefit is nearly doubled for a high dps weapon (attacks/sec of say 2).

In blu-ray it's even more crazy. :P

I'm in the middle of act 3 nightmare with my barb. Anyone got a decent skill set?

I've been using fury with rend and my offhand for leach.

Well of course they're trying to fix any issues... Why would you think they aren't?

Because they don't know, or pretend to not know, it is happening. It seems pretty regular to want to know if a developer has acknowledged an issue, because sometimes developers are oblivious to issues that are effecting customers.

Beat the game on 5:45h as a monk :3

Nightmare is derp as-well. geeeeegeeeeee 200% mf runs ftw

It seems like the way the AH is working right now you're better off going gold find. You'll have a lot more luck finding awesome magic weapons on the AH than in game.

The AH completely breaks the game, just like everyone said it would. Fortunately, you can just not use it!

Yeah, this is one thing I'm very concerned about in the long term. It won't affect me on my first playthrough from normal to hell, since I'm just not going to use it, but the long term trading game might be destroyed if they don't do something.

It's like if the WoW auction house carried all the gear in the game, none of it was BoE, and all servers could use it together. Or, conversely, if everyone who played D2 was online, and trading didn't consist of spamming chat or going to a forum.

I don't think Blizzard thought about this properly, and that's troubling.

Maybe that's it, because I have a physical copy too and the cutscenes are some of the coolest I've ever seen.

I'm not questioning why you want to know or anything. I'm questioning why you're thinking the bolded. Are you getting this ping constantly, spiking often, or was this the only occurrence? If you're getting frequent spikes, constant lag etc. then you'd obviously be wanting some type of acknowledgement. However if you spike once a day (possible exaggeration) and you want them to acknowledge you got a lag spike? Seems odd to want them to come out and say "Hey we noticed a server spiked for a few seconds, back to normal now guys".

The game just came out, they've had a bunch of server issues since then. They've done a crap load to make things better since then... obviously they're watching what's going on.

It's just a matter of how people want to play the game. I completely understand not wanting to touch the AH - because it does drastically effect game play. I just love watching my character sing. It also opens up a number of more viable builds. Those skills that look fun but are weak? Now I can play around with them a bit more.

I'm just happy it's there and people are enjoying it for what it is. However if those prices don't inflate to something a bit more realistic - I think a bind on equip might be in the future for sure.

Sorry, I now understand the confusion. The post you initially quoted only described the one spike. However, I (and all my friends on the East Coast, n=6) have experienced consistent and regular latency spikes ever since the game launched when playing on the American servers. This also seems consistent with others experience from reading this thread. So I think it is fair to say that at least a significant number of users are experiencing latency spikes that make the game more difficult to enjoy (especially on hardcore.)

So I wanted to know if they have acknowledged such a problem exists. I've looked through their twitter without much luck.

As of now, low-level items are absolutely worthless. Only when Blizz will add PvP and there will be level brackets they may be worth something

Can they patch it and modify how the AH works without causing major backlash?

I wonder what Blizzard could do to "fix it", if needed, in the future.

I would advise against playing hardcore until they get their shit more in order. It's not good to have to do so, and I really feel they underestimated the problems this would cause. They got cocky from their experience running WoW.

Is there no way to cancel an Auction House bid?

I see a better price, but my money is artificially tied up in a bid I'd prefer to cancel and put towards a different bid.

Ahh well yeah that makes more sense. :lol it seemed like you were asking "ZOMG I SPIKED DID THEY SEE IT?!"

Wait what?! I have the physical copy but I dd as a preload :/ is there anyway to transfer over the cinemas or do i have to reinstall :(

I'm seriously addicted to hardcore though. Which is funny because up until very recently I thought hardcore was really dumb. But now it's hard to imagine playing without it. Of course I could do without the excitement of dying because of latency or DCs though. Haven't had any DCs since night 1 which is good.

Anyone feel that the death penalty should be more severe?

Watching these streams proves that dying is no big deal, they just respawn at checkpoint, or TP to town, repair, then TP to the banner of anyone in the group.

This is one of the reasons why my friends and I really want to stick to HC. Playing this game without HC is so ridiculously easy because there's no consequences, and thus no risk, so no feeling of reward.

How large is your installation folder?

What is every picking as their skills for Witch Doctor?

I have:
Horrify
Acid Rain
Firebomb
Giant zombie guy
Poison Dart
Slow down AoE

Right now I have my Gargantuan tanking stuff as well as a templar so I can sit back and put down acid rain or firebomb and then poison dart if they get close. But I feel as if I am missing.... something. Can't quite figure it out.

Firebomb (Flash Fire/Roll Bones)
Fire Bats (Dire Bats)
Spirit Walk (Mana Regen)
Soul Harvest (Health Regen)
Hex (Health Regen)
Gargantuan

Been rolling with this I'm lvl 31 now about to finish normal?

Anyone tried Acid Cloud? Seems like it would be pretty good, but not sure if it will be as effective as bats.

What-what-what?! So... do I uninstall my DD copy and just install from the disc? Oh, damn, I am so on to this when I get home!

Tried to ask before but noone said anything.

Is there any reason NOT to bring a follower all the time? The templar barely does anything but him randomly spouting off shit is enough for me to bring him.

Does he take a portion of my gold or anything?

I just want to state that I'm running the game on

iMac (2007)

Core Due 2
3 GB
ATI HD 2600 (the lowest of the minimum requirement)

The game runs like a dream even with so much action on the screen. everything on low except the shadows (turned on on the lowest setting)

Im sure pepole has mentioned here before, but man buying stuff in the AH is just broken lol.

Im buying great gear for my lvl for like 200-300 gold xD

Its making my game a lot easier.

Im lvl 16 and I already have like 128 DPS lol.

But Im sure that wont matter come Inferno.

PS - Also, Im taking my sweet time with the game. Checking every nook and cranny. Still in Act I Normal :D

I'm not using the AH because of that. If the main fun in Diablo is the loot, then the AH totally destroys that aspect. It seems so stupid. It's fine for selling stuff, but I don't touch it with a pole for buying. Though only knowing that I COULD makes finding loot less interesting. It sorta takes the fun out of it because I think "wow awesome item" and then "but I could a better one in the AH for almost no gold..."....thank you bliz for destroying your own game. o.O
