TV-as-your-computer-monitor question.

I currently have a cheap-ish 23" 1080p Acer monitor for my computer, although it gets the job done. I have no TV so I use it for everything including tv/movies. If I were to get a larger 1080p flatscreen tv (not sure how much bigger but at least several inches), would there be any downside to using it with my computer? Should it just not make any difference as long as it's 1080p or is there anything I'm overlooking? The past year or so I've noticed ~32" 1080p flatscreens can be found cheaper than I expected.

I used to be somewhat tech savvy but now am not. :(

-edit-
bigger than I was thinking, but what about this? Reviews appear to be good. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insigni...HDTV/3689052.p?id=1218428153915&skuId=3689052

here's an article about using your tv as a monitor.

What is the name of the concept in which people will focus their attention on something they believe to have meaning, but ignore everything else? For example, if someone believes that the number 23 is special to them, they'll notice the number EVERYWHERE, yet they tend to ignore all the non-23 numbers they see.

What is this called?

I've seen it in a couple of thread titles and posts by now but still haven't figured out want it stands for.

So my stupid question for the day is this GAF: "What does G/A/F stand for?".

Classically, Germany/Australia/Florida. The idea being, all weird news comes from one of the three, so it's a little guessing game before you read the article.

For trickiness, the A is often correct but not Australia, for example Arizona or Austria.

I see. That makes a lot of sense actually looking back. Thanks!

I have 20 bucks. Should I get Shadows of the Damned or Just Cause 2 (both for 360)? I'll end up getting both eventually even though the PS3 version of JC2 is superior because of Youtube support as well as the PC version because of mods. Unfortunately I don't have a PS3, nor a high end PC (or laptop)that can run it.

I am having a trouble with Microsoft security essentials. It gives me alert on every website. I clean the laptop, after 5 minutes it gives me the same warning on the same file.

For instance i get Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.AH i remove it, and i browse GAF, or Facebook, the same Trojan warning comes up on the same file, same everything. I´m caught in MSE loop here. It´s frustrating. I updated MSE, i removed it from my laptop than re-installed it, and it´s still doing the same thing. What´s the problem and how can i fix it?

I know I have been on Gaf too long when all I can think about is what the first answer will be.

This is the answer I will give to my parents.
It could be an arm chair, can't tell from such a close angle.

Where are your parents? That might narrow down the type.

There was this commercial on TV where this guy who was pretty ripped, I'll say, had "romantic" music in the background, where he and this hot chick were trying to initiate sex about three times before their whole room was trashed because they kept bumping into stuff. Anyone have a link to that vid?

2 Q's

Is there any difference between a shoe made for indoor/track running versus one for outdoor/trail running? Do they even make that distinction in general shoe marketing/design?

And tangentially related, can dogs get a rash from poison ivy?

"Off-road" running shoes generally have softer soles with more grip and less overall cushioning in the shoe, and are often not as flexible as a street shoe. They tend to weigh a bit more, as well, so your knees, legs and ankles will eventually suffer a bit of fatigue if you're running on concrete/track/etc.

Yes, or from any other plant with irritating sap or the like. They will tend to get it around the face, as this is the least furry bit, and they tend to run their faces when having a good roll.

I had a dog with plant allergy who rolled in them and got the most awful rashes. I had him on goat's milk and evening primrose oil, as well as having to bath him regularly. Such a hassle!

Thanks guys, appreciate it. Was kind of hoping you'd say dogs were immune to the ivy, ah well.

Can someone recommend me a scale? I'm looking for a simple step up tell weight step off scale. I prefer a digital reading also.

I have a Tanita that can measure body fat and water percentage. It's a few years old now, so I don't have a specific model to recommend, but you can find them on Amazon.

Incredible. A little over 12 hours, and not a single serious answer.

Woah! I scared you with something! Holy shit.

Its behind a link now.

You scared me too as I thought his comment was directed at me and I had inadvertently posted a link that contained spyware or something :/.

:)

The Wii Balance Board is a good scale. Yes, really. It's more fun than a normal scale too.

Any tips on dealing with stress? I'm certain of the cause but can't deal with it for another two weeks. My body isn't reacting well :P

The only way that stress leaves my body (at least for a couple of hours) is to lay down and listen to really loud music.

No time, unless I go to bed directly after school, at the moment. Rough work schedule at school right now, with crazy pressure to produce quality content and staying competitive at all times (not sure why, it's not a contest technically). It feels like a space race basically.

Music is never a bad thing though ^^

Exercise, sleep, good diet, and remove the cause of the stress where possible, i.e. good time management, ask for support from friends and family to lift domestic load, etc.

Common sense.

does youtube count fancams of a concert as copyright violation? I want to upload some, but I don't want to lose my 6 year old account.

Is the tech for rechargeable AA batteries the same across different brands?

I have a set of Energizer rechargeable AA batteries and the accompanying wall charger, but over the years I've lost almost all the batteries. If I bought a set of, say, Eneloop rechargeable AA's, would they charge in my Energizer wall charger? I don't really see why not but it can't hurt to ask before I throw down the cash for them.

edit: the charger says "only charge NiMH" batteries so as long as they are that kind, regardless of brand, I should be good right?
