From I've seen (Not much to go on) it always seems like the ball version drop out unless Sent is point blank next to Akuma.
One would need to take a look at the hurt boxes of both to see why. Or it could've been one of those things.

Just got here when the Wong versus Joker match ended. Damn I've never been in a room full of hyped people like that. Now I'm watching SFxT, haha!

Probably because the beam is one projectile, and the balls are multiple.
It probably had more to do with his spacing, Hard drive is invincible so it doesn't care about that either way.
Either way Justin choked it up (to me) and did that super Joker tried to punish with the correct play and his Akuma dropped out.

While it's possible that JWong just did something random on accident, it's Justin Wong. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to doing strange things. It's common for Sentinel's hard drive to drop in different situations. Maybe JWong know something we don't know.
...That being said, no way Jwong could've predicted when/where Joker was going to punish.

Nah man. He did an aerial super when sentinel had a meter to punish with hard drive and the super was out of range to even put sentinel in block stun...
