I have to agree that the itemization is completely out of whack which is mindblowing. How do you blow the most crucial part of Diablo? I played my first co-op play with a GAFer yesterday and totally got the old D2 feel of dungeon crawling but I do agree with the critics. Something just feels slightly wrong about the game. It's still enjoyable and I'm not as hard on it as most people seem to be. But I'm also pretty casual and so maybe this is a result of them trying to appeal to people like me.

The AH is too addicting in this game, it kinda ruins the point of playing it! haha...

....on the other hand, I actually started enjoying my Barbarian once I could leap in and crush everything with a swipe or two. heh.

Refusing to use AH so far, this is my unorthodox Witch Doctor, just beat Normal. Love this set-up of skills and runes. AoE DoT overkill.

Whew, Act 1 Hell was pretty rough for my Demon Hunter, but after dropping a nice 380+ DPS 2H crossbow, it got a bit easier. Lv 55 currently, base DPS around 7k, buffed at 15k.

Although if the Hell Act 4 boss is worse than the Nightmare version, holy hell it's gonna take awhile. Had a party of 4 take it on and while we got it on the second try, it was by the skin of our teeth.

Buying it day one regardless whether it is working or not is the strongest voting possible, because it sends the signal that you do not actually care whether it is working or not, you are putting your trust in the product/developers anyway.

Stop with your hyperbolic fanboy bullshit. Everyone does care if their purchased products work as intended. Even more so when the publisher/developer is a giant like Blizzard. A smoothly working service is the norm and blizzard has failed to uphold that so far.

For Barbarians out there, what kind of builds are you using? I'm 41 Barb in Act II Nightmare. For most of the game so far I've been going 1H with shield.

For skills I have a balance of offensive, defensive, and healing skills.

Frenzy / Triumph (Killing an enemy with Frenzy Heals you)
- I've tried all the other skills and nothing kills shit faster than Frenzy from what I can tell. Cleave started out amazing with the explode ability, but now I'm at the point where I really single target death is more important.

Whirlwind / Blood Funnel (Crits while in Whirlwind heal you)
- I only recently started using WW, for a long time I was using Seismic Slam because it was basiaclly the only distance attack barbs get, and that's useful sometimes.

Ignore Pain / Igorance is Bliss (Restore Life while IP is active)
- Helps when I've got 30 mobs ganged up on me.

Revenge / Vengeance is Mine (Restore Life when using Revenge)
- I've had this set the entire game and don't see myself changing. I have about 7k HP and I can walk into a group of ridiculously strong mobs, and they just whale on me and I'll see my health bar dropping like an anvil but I'm getting hit so fast I can literally just spam Revenge and watch my health bar consntatly refill itself. It's amazing.

Battle Rage / Marauder's Rage (Increased +Attack effect)
- I sometimes switch to War Cry when grouping

Call of the Ancients / Duty to the Clan
- Nothing else compares, these guys do a shitton of damage, and also take aggro off me so I can easily burn things down without fear of being hit.

Any advice / criticism of this build?

You need Ground Stomp in your build. It's the best Barbarian skill in the game, especially for higher difficulty levels.

And with Frenzy, when you get to it, switch to Smite rune. The stun is excellent.

Nothing like waking up in the morning and all your gold and half your gear is gone. I am lucky I still have items on my back.

My situation wasn't this bad, but I jumped in yesterday and had lost an entire level. Feels bad that your shit is gone, too.

What's the deal with this? It's pretty ridiculous that this sort of shit is considered OK (as in, they aren't going to do anything but through us the dealwithit.gif).

Ground stomp with wrenching smash--->Rend with ravage rune--->Cleave with Rupture.

Revenge with vengeance is mine rune (trigger whenever it procs)

Passive - Blood thirst, ruthless, weapon master

Triggered in that order among large groups of enemies. Ground stomp sucks them all in and stuns them, rend adds DPS, and then cleave with rupture causes explosive and damaging chain reactions among the enemy groups.

Usually there is only one or two enemies left standing after that combo.

I'm not convinced building a Barbarian as a killing machine is going to be viable at higher levels. For the most part I've AoE'd everything to death (Leap > Ground Stomp > Rend/Ravage) but in the tougher packs you can lose your health pretty quickly.

Haven't started up on NM yet, but definitely going to work on a build and playstyle that's focused on staying alive.

Hey guys, is this DPS good enough for Level 56 Witch Doctor?

R1hyg.jpg

I just noticed that if you buff your character in game then quit to menu, your profile shows the buffed DPS. The one above isn't my actual DPS. Its around 5000. I got 13,000 by using Level 5 Soul Harvest, and 30% Attack Boost totem. Remember to take those ridiculous DPS screenshots with a grain of salt. For all you know it could be after a whole team's co-operative buffs.

Finally I've beaten the game on my DH lv 32 I got a nice boost in act 3 thanks to a mate who had found a 2H rare socketed crossbow with +95 DEX and a rare socketed quiver with another bunch of DEX. This change +gems increased my DPS of something like 250 :D
Just a question, how am I supposed to raise the JC level now? It asks for JC pages and I have no clue how to obtain those O.o Nightmare difficulty?

Just got booted off the server, losing all progress in one of those long-ass, lame act 2 quests. :/

And is there a wayt o change the color of the cursor? During heavy action I frequently lose sight of it, annoying.

So I have perfectly fine dps/healing build for my monk, but I want to try something else and my head is spinning from what I have tried to put together in skill calculator...
*sigh

I've only played Normal, Nightmare and Act 1 of Hell, but so far I found Nightmare to be the most fun.
It's not as frustrating as Hell where you run into a group of elites and can expect to die at least 10 times, but still challenging enough with some OH SHIT moments.

Act II boss on nightmare turned out to be so easy when I discovered that
you can run through Belial's arms when he makes his super attack

Now on act III and my kamikaze dogs still rape everything when they explode (9000 criticals lol) and now they heal me to full hp too :D

So...spells use weapon damage % to scale properly at high levels, but WD spells still have some effects like life leech and stat gains which use static numbers based on level? Pretty much means they're going to be useless end game.

So starting yesterday, I've been unable to play the game at all, as the launcher crashes immediately when trying to start the game. I've completely redownloaded the game, uninstalled the original, and I can't even reinstall because the launcher/installer immediately crashes.... I've tried a number of things I've seen on the Blizzard tech support forums, but no one seems to be reporting my specific issue. I've also submitted a support ticket, but no answers yet.

What the fuck is going on :( Has anyone had this issue or heard of it or possibly know anything I could try to make it work?

I thought WD and Wizard are the two classes that can solo inferno the best right now?

Bam, just hit 50 with my HC DH. Ten more to go ... gonna farm the end of act3 for some time now. 120 MF and multishot with 2,5k dps is insane.

This game has been consuming all my free time, but it's sooo good. I've been playing the monk class and I'm currently level 30 - one notch from 31 at the beginning of Act 4 on normal - and I feel a bit overpowered at the moment. I think my damage is ~410 with about 1300 in armor and 3.6k in health. So far I'm fairlly happy with my decision to go tank spec. I guess we'll see when I eventually get to the higher difficulties.

I've upgraded both my jeweler and blacksmith to the point that I need training pages and money to progress further. Do these pages drop on normal difficulty?

Finally hit 60. Only Act 4 left to do.

Also time for a proper DH build I guess. It was fun to run around with Strafe, but that's not gonna cut it anymore.

Just checked the calculator, and all abilities are based off of weapon damage there. Haven't had a chance to check the runes yet.

Why is the last Rune for the plague of toads SO BAD?

It just reduces the cost of the base spell to 0 mana, but since it costs so little mana to begin with, that makes no difference for a level 54 character.

Can anyone just confirm the skill system's mechanics for me please?

It seems that the only way to modify or level up a skill after it has been unlocked is to use a skill rune of your choosing, and then after that it's all based on items?

As an example, skill A does 180% of base weapon damage from when it unlocks. Besides a rune that could potentially increase that 180% amount, will it ever increase? 190%? 200? 220?

Or...skill B, that "lasts 6 seconds", will it ever last 8? 10? 12 seconds? Or is it forever stuck at 6...

I'm not seeing a way that those values will ever improve, unless a specific rune unlocks that modifies it.

If this is a dumb question sorry, only in Act 3 normal.

Pages only drop in Nightmare and above.

Well, the int from Soul Harvest isn't based off weapon damage. And runes like Haunt's life leech aren't based off weapon damage either.

So many of the WD's runes just seem absolutely terrible, thus far.

I hate their fucking broken savepoint system. I don't even know how often I logged out after numerous checkpoint saves only to find the last couple of wps and the whole quest missing. And of course it's always those annoying quests in act 1 and 2 that force you to travel through half the act, trying to find some stupid shitty cave and backtracking with every other step. Ugh. Worst level/quest design ever. And all for 1500 xp and 50 gold.

Is there a list of mandatory quests or ways to skip most of them? At this point I fucking dread act 2. Horrible, boring, slow, chore-like quest that I've spent more than half of my time on due to the broken saves....

Thank god for act 3.

I feel incredibly underpowered and that I'm doing something wrong - any advice??

The low damage numbers are based off of your gear and your gems. That's what we would need to see in order to really evaluate the low numbers. That is, assuming your skill build is legit.

5 * 130 Intelligence seems like a massive boost anyway - and from what people are saying about it (i.e. that it's insanely OP at lower levels) is likely already balanced around later content. Just guessing here, haven't started mine yet.

Really hope they get an armoury equivalent up sooner rather than later, I'd love to know how some people gear to go with their builds (and will help hugely with asking for assistance).

Finally made it to Act 3 yesterday and I have to say WOW - most definitely my favorite of the first 3 Acts.

MonkPunchBroFist.

It certainly is the best act...by far!

On a side note, I am really enjoying how each class feels very different and the combat is varied between each of the classes.

I have only played Monk class so far but definitely plan on starting something different once I finish the game.

I'm level 40. I've been buying armor off of the AH for around 10k or less and most of my equip is level 33 or greater. Is there any reason that I should start investing in blacksmithing? It seems like an incredible amount of money to spend at this point (I got it to level 3, I think). I think I'd be better served just finding good deals on the AH and saving it all for twinks.

Wait.. what happened? I just started up the starter edition thanks to a friend and was planning on buying the game this week. I had never played a Diablo game in the past but have really enjoyed it so far. Is there a random bug that strips you of your gear??

Also WTF at the save system? Other than that I am enjoying it and running it on a mac mini and it is doing well :)

Tip to those using DarkD3:

Open the darkD3_Settings.h file, and change the following:

#define USE_PRE_SHARPEN
//#define USE_POST_SHARPEN

to

//#define USE_PRE_SHARPEN
#define USE_POST_SHARPEN

Pre-sharpen looks terrible and adds a lot of sharpening artifacts, especially to the UI. Post sharpen is much better. Post sharpen removes the game's AA blur without introducing a ton of sharpening artifacts.

Just hit 59, and I'm liking the game less and less the more I play the game. The difficulty spikes of normal enemies just being fodder who will probably never drop anything ever and the massive leap up to the rarer spawns just makes for very awkward difficulty spikes.

crazy to see so many people farming act 4 part 1. just public games, 25k+ exp and loot in 2 mins. not sure how blizzard can really fix it.

Awesome, thanks. That's been my main problem with it, thought it had to do with the various levels. Now I can play on dark :D
