Diablo III |OT2| Queues Rise. Servers Fall.

So can someone explain to me how selling gems etc... works? If you go to buy gems, they are a set price I guess based on how many are in inventory on the AH?

If I go to sell Gems, or crafting mats etc... I can put a price I want to sell them for. Lets say I want to put 5 times the default asking price. Does that mean I just made the average price go up or does that mean mine will sit in inventory on the AH until they are no more gems available at a lower price than mine. Does anyone have any idea how this is supposed to work?

Gem system works this way: when you buy gems, you always buy the ones that are cheapest.

Let us say there is 3 radiant topaz in the ah for 300 and 1 radiant topaz for 400.
Then if I buy 1 radiant topaz, then the price is 300.

If I set my quantity for 4, it will result in me having to buy 1300 - 3*300 + 1*400, as they were bottom of the queue, pricing-wise.

Now, if I want to be cheapest, all I do is set the price for 290. If I put 2 gems in with 290, then the next person who buys radiant topazes will buy those two first.

It is linear, it is very genius actually (as in EVERYONE buys cheapest stuff anyway, and this stops any accidental buys as well.), and it is less stressful on the server as it does not have to render the whole for you.

I don't really like Vision Quest builds, personally, because of how limiting it is of your skill selection and because I chose Witch Doctor specifically since I didn't want a DPS-oriented spellcaster. They're kind of amusing when they get going, though.

I figured it'd be limiting but, at the same time, Spirit Walk, Soul Harvest, and Hex have cooldowns so there's three fourths of the VQ requirement anyway. At that point, it just kind of felt like "well, guess I might as well" with the build.

Granted, my WD is like 32 or something at the start of NM so not sure when I'll get to playing her and seeing how I like it. She's on the back burner until after my Monk and DH get to Inferno though, most likely.

Elites packs started getting really scary since the end of Nightmare already, at least they did for me.
I died quite a bit trying to kill 7 Corrupted Angels with Shielded and Molten that just nearly permastunned me with their charge and locked me whenever I tried to leave the flames. I only managed to get out of the corridor we were into thanks to Serenity and Dashing Strike. I just skipped the damn level and never looked back.
Probably with more survivability I could have killed them but I'm playing untwinked and it's not like I had many opening to attack them between the charges and the Shield.

Also, does anyone know hot he elemental damages work on weapons. If I have something with 2-4 fire, does that scale up with my class stat i.e. Dex?

It's already added to the listed Weapon Damage on the weapon (e.g., a 12-20 Bow with +2-4 Fire means it was a 10-16 Bow before that +Damage). This +Damage does scale with your damage stat since the stat calculation is just a multiplier on your total Weapon Damage.

I'm near the end of act III on nightmare at level 50(wizard). Where are some places I can farm?I need to farm some gear because mine is lacking.

I am seriously starting to doubt the viability of melee classes in late hell and inferno. It's just not an option to not get hit. Kind of bummed I got a barb to 60.
Resistances are huge in inferno, my monk is spotting around 51% dodge and 60% damage reduction so I can usually deal with your run of the mill physical-only mobs. Once I hit some champions that have some nasty prefixes its all over though. From what I've seen of melee classes solo'ing inferno successfully they all have really high HP (30k+) and high resistances (200+ to all resistances).

AHAHAHAHAHA

Frozen Arcane Enchanted Waller Invulnerable Minions

I'm pretty sure blue/gold packs on Inferno are Blizz's way of savagely trolling the hardcore fanbase after the years of content-hungry slavedriving in World of Warcraft. The variance on the packs is skyhigh and are about as well-balanced as Charlie Sheen's psych profile.

It's weird because it's the very opposite of what I would expect out of a Blizzard game, Inferno in general past Act I feels like prenerf AQ40.

You know, i'm not sure of the effectiveness of Bola Shot. I'm using it because people have recommended it to me on GAF, but what I've noticed is that you have to wait for the Bola to explode before it hurts the monster. Sure, the bolas stack, but there's still a noticeable DPS delay.

I'm getting like 1400ms right now.

Fucking game.

Yeah, I was at ~800+ earlier. Really annoying.

Maybe it's the way I play but Hungering Arrow is just too good. Run and just shift to fire in the general direction of enemies. So good.

So starting yesterday, I've been unable to play the game at all, as the launcher crashes immediately when trying to start the game. I've completely redownloaded the game, uninstalled the original, and I can't even reinstall because the launcher/installer immediately crashes.... I've tried a number of things I've seen on the Blizzard tech support forums, but no one seems to be reporting my specific issue. I've also submitted a support ticket, but no answers yet.

What the fuck is going on :( Has anyone had this issue or heard of it or possibly know anything I could try to make it work?

Dumb suggestion, here. However, are you on Windows 7? If so, maybe try running the installer in administrator mode. Worth a shot.

Well it's partly because of RNG and partly because they balanced Inferno until their testers thought it hard enough, and then doubled the difficulty.
Melee classes are fucked heavily.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess I just don't like what seems to be blizzard telling me how much my items are worth. Selling gems that I worked 3 difficulty levels making and only getting a few thousand gold pieces seems like a ripoff to me. Considering how much gold it costs to make them.

Ahh interesting. Thanks for that. I was wondering how it worked.

Interesting. Curious to get to there and see how WD holds up.

Are you using a companion? Shouta posted earlier that his high DPS Scoundrel was handling mobs in Hell. Dunno how he'd fare in Inferno though.

Enchantress is doing pretty well for me, all told. I gave her the two AOE attacks along with the armor and attack speed boosting passives. The cooldown on the attack spells are low enough that she can use them once per fight and they actually deal quite acceptable damage, and the armor boost is another level of survivability. I think she actually out-damages the Scoundrel in any situation where her damage over time spell is able to do its full damage.

She dies almost instantly if she gets targeted, but that's what I've got a wall of minions for. If her survivability becomes an issue I'll probably invest in some rings and an amulet that add Vitality on top of the Intelligence stacking I'm currently doing. For the most part I've just been equipping her with my hand-me-downs for rings and amulets and supplementing with the highest DPS two-handed weapons I find lying around. I don't think I've purchased a single item for her all game; she'd probably fare better still if I weren't too miserly to ever give her a present in recognition of her many hours of faithful service.

Man I totally thought that was PR bullshit when they mentioned that.. but yeah, that's probably what they actually did.

This is still happening to people? I haven't seen that error since release day.

Happens randomly. Sometimes I'll get an hour or two, sometimes I just constantly get disconnected.

I'm beyond annoyed, and almost ready to call Blizzard because it's not going away. I've tried every fix on the forums, I even plugged in a non-shitty router, nothing works.

I wish I had known ahead of time how common the drops are on Radiant/Square+ Gems later on. I'd have put all my Flawless and Perfects up for sale long before the market was saturated.

...she'd probably fare better still if I weren't too miserly to ever give her a present in recognition of her many hours of faithful service.

Hours of faithful service and hundreds of deaths; I've left my Templar to die so many times when I'm soloing on my DH. The will of a Templar indeed, I suppose.

Hmm I have yet to use Smoke Screen with my DH I have always been fonder of vault. As it gets me out of trouble instantly and with added attack power. Although I have just started Nightmare so what do I know!

Vault gets you away from enemies, Smokescreen gives you immunity to them (and breaks CC effects like Jail, Frozen, Fear, etc.). Honestly, I find Vault mostly useful for getting away if I'm ever surrounded and for traveling. Primarily for traveling.

I'm going to get back on this one. I've been using Entangling Shot until I replaced it with Bola Shot recently, but I haven't tried Hungering Arrow in a while.

Dying to laser beams?

Pretty much still happens more than I like to admit. I am not good with the Mario skills. -_-

The AQ40 reference was due to the way, at the time of that dungeon's release, the later trash and last two bosses were wretched-the second to last boss (Ouro) had huge variance and C'Thun was just busted dumb, two things that sum up Inferno difficultly as well.

Melee classes are fucked heavily.

Playing a Monk, feeling your pain. I don't even bother with anything other than Act I runs.

Anyone use explosive frogs beyond Normal? I completely destroyed everything on my first playthrough with those. The giant toad seems pretty useless so far.

Bingo. Basically as a WD you are going to use Spiritual Attunement or Vision Quest for the Mana Buff, as spamming most of your good aoe skills will run you out of mana in a hurry. Coincedentally Spirit Walk, Soul Harvest, and to a lesser extent Hex are pretty much essential WD skills and also have cooldown. Most people are either going to combine those 3 skills with Grasp of the Dead or Gargantuan for CC/Tanking which also have cooldown. So at that point your choosing between a buff for 100% mana regen or 300%.

Same - I didn't use SS in Normal but after reading some builds it seems to be the way to go. I'm still tinkering with my build, though.

Quick question for DH's:

Is Hungering Arrow really the best primary attack? I've been using Evasive Fire w/ Covering Fire and love it. Deals good damage and works on multiple enemies.

I was just referencing C'thun's habit of eye lasering you through walls at AQ40 launch. Nothing can save you from death! Not even being at the goddamn zone-in!

I guess it depends on how you play but Hungering Arrow lets me kite and just fire blindly somewhat towards enemies and have it home in. The pierce (or pierce -> split) is nice as well. Granted, I haven't given Bolas a good try but I can't see it being as safe as the screen length of safety space Hungering Arrows have.

My Enchantress is there as a walking Armor and Attack Speed buff, everything she has is stuff I've found around, mostly with the +Int and +Vit combo.
She was strolling around early Nightmare with awful Armor but like two times my HP pool and it's been a long time since the last time she died.

Use both! Works well for me.

I would love to but I cannot sacrifice any of my skills it feels like!

Seems to work pretty well for myself!

I am only level 32 though, but this seems to give me the most damage output whilst keeping myself alive.

Have I mentioned how fucking much I hate monsters who do nothing but run away and spawn with Molten/Plagued and Mortar? Oh I know, lets add Vortex and Waller to the mix!

Fucking Inferno...

So I upped my magic find to 47%, tried farming
Diablo
on nightmare and Skeleton King on Hell, still only got shitty blues :(.
How much magic find you need to make it worthwhile?

I really wish there was a passive skill that would allow you to have 2 runes per skill, granted that skill would be pretty broken! But fun.

Yeah - I do the same. I like to shoot enemies off screen and Covering Fire does 125% damage to three separate enemies instantly.

I'm just wondering if there's something I'm doing wrong since I don't see a lot of hubbub regarding Evasive Fire (Covering Fire).

It's just to remove some money from the economy. It's not Blizzard taking a cut - it's to keep the economy from getting stupidly inflated too quickly. If there aren't money sinks, it'll be a never ending inflation.

Thanks. I figured it was something like that. This is my first Diablo game and I am quickly realizing,
A) Sometimes it seems like I am playing a different game than most in this thread. Like I need to play this one game, to even get to the real game within the game.
B) I think I need a guide on how to even read this thread! I am picking up on most of the abbreviations but some I am lost on.

Second that. It's beyond stupid against the act 4 boss. If you are getting hit by him(I can speak for normal/nm) as a DH, you are doing it wrong.

Anyone else feeling pidgeonholed as a Witch Doctor? I feel like none of my interesting and fun skills are viable anymore. And Splinters is such a boring ability.

Half my spells and passives feel useless post-normal.

Honestly, you could probably get through most of Nightmare without defensive skills (or at least the invuln defensive skills), really. Hell, I did Normal and Nightmare with the +60% Movement Speed passive slotted just so I could get through crap faster and in shitty Gold Find% equipment :x

Just switched to use Hungering Arrow + Split and hot damn this is powerful! I wish I started using this earlier rather than the Entangling shot.

A lot of them were really not that viable to begin with tbh. Toads are way to random and spiders were kind of poopy compared to dire bats/darts. The pets all die except for gargantuan. Big bad voodoo and fetish army are awesome but at a 2 minute cooldown they aren't really viable except for boss fights. Our aoe slow is amazing but when compared side to side to something spammable like blizzard it isn't really worth it in co-op games. Haunt is alright as a DoT but you have to recast it every single pack even with Lingering spirit runed because it has no range. Zombie bears are alright but you kind of have to get close which is dangerous. There's no reason to every take spirit walk off, and soul harvest is awesome for everything except boss fights where you can't get it stacked. The CC spells that we have (confusion, fear, hex with hedge mage) are pretty good but with 6 slots and no changing with nephalem valor you can't really sacrifice skill spots for them all. Acid rain and locust swarm all both really good but they cost a lot of mana so you can't really spam them, so you usually choose other things over them.

Monks!

Got any builds to survive getting done over? What stats are you guys going for?
Im using
Fists of thunder/ spirit rune
Scorpion kick (easy spam skill and the stun is handy)
Wind shield with damage increase
Wind Ally
Heal with dmg increase rune
Healing mantra, hp restored increase rune
Then Dodge with dual weps, hp from spirit and mantra increase.

I think I ve focused too much on DPS and straight DEX and last night in act four I think I died something like 5 times within 10mins.

When I got to a mini-boss it was fine as I could beat this shit out of them, even th elast boss I can pretty much stun lock him but when there is mobs flying all over the place I get overwhelmed.

I also keep seeing monks with sheilds and that just seems wrong.

HELL HERE I COME GAF

btw check out my build suckas whatchu think

demon hunter snare/slow/lots o' movement build

caltrops with carved stakes (reduces cooldown to 4 disc) vault (w/ rattling roll: stun and knockback) rapid fire (with high velocity: piercing) rain of vengeance (beastly bombs:drops 20 bombs) bola shot (thunder ball : stun) chakram : (twin chakrams)
