As a Sorc, What spells should I be rocking?
I've been using Arcane Orb with Obi, Ray of Frost + Greater Damage over time, and Arcane Missile + Large damage

Is that how mf is supposed to work? I thought it just increased the chance of getting a magic item not the quality of the magic item. Isn't it equivalent to just buying more tickets in the lottery?

Do we know how it works in D3 yet?

In D2 (from the wiki):
Magic Find makes more of the items that drop be magical or better (Rare/Set/Unique).

If you have 100% +MF, if an item dropped normally had a 10% chance to be magical, it will now have a 20% chance. You won't get more items dropping, but the ones that do drop will be better items. More players in a game = more item drops, so you want to try and combine the +MF with a big MP game for the best results.

For a hypothetical example, say normally out of 100 item drops, you would get 20 magic, 2 rare, 2 set, and 1 unique. With 100% +MF you'd expect 40 magic, 4 Rare, 4 Set, and 2 Uniques. It's never exactly like this, but that's about how much it should increase.

There are quite a few easy places to grind exp that literally take 1-2 minutes. All you have to do is reset the quest and start the game again, do the quest, get exp, repeat. I was level 53 going into Hell. Level 56 going into Act 2.

Oh it all makes sense. I was confusing Hell for Nightmare. I was 51 going into Hell. Something like that.

It's hard for me to say this as I'm such a massive Diablo nut but the more I play the more I realize the itemization fucking blows. I have no idea what they were thinking. The uniques and sets are just a bunch of random stats, they have no real identity. Compare that to D2 and how most of the uniques were easy to tell apart because they all had their own specific qualities. In D3 it's like they just threw a bunch of random +stats on the items with like 1-2 unique ones (and even the unique stats are just generic fucking +stats). This is terrible.

And then the fact that all you need for your gear is +main stat and +vita, along with +resists when you get to hell/inferno, but mostly just +main stat and +vita. This is horrible.

I can't believe this, what were they thinking. The worst thing is that it can't be fixed easily as it would take a massive overhaul of the item system so the best we can hope for is a huge improvement for the expansion.

This is going to kill the longevity of the game. It all just finally hit me today (lvl 52 hell). I'm stunned for the most part.
indeed, sir. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this.

Also, I'm disappointed that there are so many low-level, low-quality Legendary items at all. What's the point of making a Legendary item with 37.5 DPS? The DPS looked amazing the first day or two the game was out...but now? C'mon, son. I feel like Legendary items should have been items hanging around the top tier of item buffs and dps. I'm glad GAF stopped me from buying that Legendary Starfire wand last week. I would have blown 50k on a wand that I would have retired just 1 day later for a Magical wand with superior stats. This is part of the reason I'm so averse to spending more than 15k on any item. I *know* that in one day, I'll find something noticeably better for that same price. Shit, I doubled my DPS yesterday with a Hammer, then tripled it on top of that 3 hours later with an Axe. Fortunately, I was able to sell the Hammer for what I paid for it, but the point remains.

No items holds its place on your hero for more than 2 days unless you just dont' feel like looking for upgrades in the AH.

While there's a lack of Uniques with ... well, Unique stats, I like the fact that they have random properties on them added to it since it means that they at least can have some extra use. Then again, they'd have probably been better off just giving the Uniques better base stats to begin with instead of random stats (i.e., goddamnit Thorns on a Windforce would be hilariously awful).

And, honestly, I don't remember much about D2 itemization beyond getting better +Stats/Resists/IAS/Resists/+Skills. Which is about the same here except +Crit Chance/Crit Damage gets added to it too.

Hi guys, is it worth picking up grey and white items if there are no blues or higher? Can I upgrade the white/grey weapons or blue ones and higher?

So anyone here playing a wizard? I've been finding things pretty hard going on Normal, what do I need to be doing/not doing? I'm somewhere in Act 2 and my wizard just hit level 23.

The high level legendaries are pretty shitty too in comparison, especially for the price people are trying to sell them at. Which is fine be me, makes it easier/cheaper finding better rares/magics.

Ya not sure how much longer I'll be playing either. I doubt for long after I hit 60 and dabble in inferno.

Don't bother picking up whites or greys, pick up blues but if they are not better than what you have then salvage them, anything better than that you can try to sell on the AH if you don't want it.

Don't bother, but be careful: tomes, pages and gems are all classified as whites. Pick those up. Ignore the rest.

I beat it solo with a Wizard and it was tougher with this class. Best bet would be having the Templar to tank and use distance. Also Diamond Skin rawks.

What would the big difference be? I'm doing a bit of both (when I can get the game to run).

Thanks, I'll check it out.

If you're in a group then presumably you'll have someone tanking and gathering the mobs making AoE far more viable than needing to single target (or smaller multi-target) when playing solo or using a follower.

So I just finished nightmare, and now I'm in hell. I need to farm for better gear first. What are some good spots to farm in Nightmare?

A3 bridge till end. A4 area before the bossfight. If you have ae go to A2 caves with a shitload of monsters aswell. Even tho its "only" Act II you can prolly do it with alot of MF and get a shitload of rares. With 52 I'm still using a lvl 3x rare belt with 50 str/dex/int/vit/mf.

I use hungering/impale/multishot/vault/ss/prep. For bosses hungering/mark of death/vault/ss/prep/companion.

This is my setup, except I'm in softcore so I substitute Vault with a bat companion because dying isn't really a big deal to me and the DPS improvement is substantial.

Do you use impact stun impale? Fire at will multishot?

Unless you have poor give and not using the right skills, Wiz is super easy.

Frost Nova to keep things in groups and slow.
Wave of Force to blow them up.
Arcane Orb if you want to AoE groups as well. Works well once frozen.
Electrocute is a nice spell. Free to use, so spam it on easy groups.
Disintegrate is also great, since it goes through enemies and some walls.

Act 1, Stage 7. Or, as mentioned, farm the Auction House. less time, infinitely better results.

Speaking of which, I got a bodacious chest armor drop while repeating A1S7 yesterday in Hell. It was a Rare. Something like 199 armor, +60 intel, +50 vital, +20 cold resist, something else...and 3 gem slots. Added a few perfect squares and that shit wins.

Agreed with this so far. I think the AH has added another layer on top of this by making it pointless to grind for items--you can buy anything with gold to power your way through the game.

I wonder if people have yet realized that Magic Find % is less bang for your buck than stacked % Gold Find?

D2 was very guilty of this too. Almost none of the base uniques when Classic launched were garbage; especially none-exceptional items. (Remember when Azurewrath was a unique Crystal Sword that did like 15 damage? That's Izual's blade, forged by Tyrael--and you could find it in normal act 2 and it would be useless by the time you got to Duriel.)

Distengrate is the best

Yes to to stun. Multishot it depends. Either the 20 hatred rune or the one that boosts the damage by ~30%. Depends on the areal I'm in ... Act IV with all those lowlife spiders? Taking the cost reduction any day.

You want to evade damage as much as possible. To that end, Diamond skin should *always* be available to you. Equip items that give you as much Intelligence boosting and Vitality boosting as possible.

What spells are you using? I find the spells that allow you to stay at a distance are the most effective. And again, do your best to kite the enemy (shot, run back a few paces, turn and shoot again...and repeat until win).

I see. D3 is my first Diablo game, but it just seems like common sense that if you want to create value hierarchies of weapons and armor in this game, they can't be items you'll want to unequip in a day for lack of DPS/stats for your hero. In practice, Legendary items are of no more value to your hero than any other class of weapon. That simply shouldn't be the case.

Hey guys, I've read about the D3 hacking and I just want to make sure my "authenticator" is being utilized. Can someone point me in the right direction please? I checked the OP but I didn't see anything regarding it.

Thanks.

Updated at the top with a link to the Blizzard FAQ. Not going to type out a step-by-step myself.

Im am not having this issue with itemization so far, but this may be a class issue. I'm a demon hunter, currently balancing these stats:

Vitality
Dexterity
Chance to critically hit
Increased critical strike damage
Attack speed
Hatred Generation
Resistances

With small considerations like +max discipline as occsassional modifiers. I also used to want +damage on rings/amulets, but those do not scale well in to late game.

That seems reasonable to me, but this may not be true for other classes.

Wait, Legendaries aren't unique? They're just rares with an extra stat slot or something?

They have set stats (well, within a range) and with +Other stats. There's just a lack of Legendaries with actual stats that can only be found on Legendaries.

I just don't feel like spending gold :( What should I get for my off hand as a Wizard?

The prices are starting to go down and hard. I just snatched a delightful piece of jewelry with roughly 100 str and 100 vit for 15k. The lower level loots will be even cheaper. The damn items are cheaper than gambling on crafting!

Another question, most of my gear is blue lvl 7-9 and 2 lvl 17 while I'm soon lvl 25, where is the best place to get new gear?

Vendors. No shit, they have some amazing blues, you just have to have patience. I bought ~20 of those amulets for 6k each.

Just start a game, have a look and rejoin.

Soloed
Butcher
on Inferno today! I had already picked up the 3 rares that dropped before hitting PrtScr. Love the Nephalem buff. It's soo good, I just been running around farming packs in Act 1 for drops. Good stuff!

Still haven't got to play a ton of Co-op though I did play the end of Hell with Rentahamster and others. I'm finding solo to be easier from what I've played Co-op. I can solo packs pretty well. We will see how long that holds up as I get further in. :D

so i logged in today and i am confronted with 3 Extra Health/Arcane/Enchanted Disentombed Hulks. took me several deaths before i realized i can't just stand there and wail on them. but i mean they had 18k hp and at the time my dmg was 594ish. 2300 armor and 4.1k hp. i'm now up to 5.1k hp and like 680 damage, and i beat the butcher pretty easily with the old stats. must just be hax combos of elite monsters T_T

That seems reasonable to me, but this may not be true for other classes.

Same except add Life Steal%, +Healing per Spirit, Evasion/Armor, Resistances, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting for my Monk. Wizard has some nice skill mod ones too since I've seen stuff like +2s to Blizzard on a Source.

I am finding it hard to understand the point of a loot based game when all of the best loot has already been found and you're just cashing in to get it.

I was hoping D3 would be a new D2. =(

Easy. You find loot, sell it to other and buy yourself loot! Just no need to make O:RUNES W:IK games and hope you don't get scammed with pricing.

The Enchantress is so horribly written...

I like her ._.
I like how she just randomly asks for sweetwine and some fancy bread for food and my barb just says gruffly "I got a hunk of salted meat..."

So wait, flawless square gems cost tombs, 3 square gems and 20k gold to make and they go for 9500~ gold on AH?

Remind me, why should I ever make my own?

Finally finished hell. Shadow clones can be tricky....

Overall not so happy with the Demon Hunter class. The way the abilities and resource system are designed, it doesn't feel like I can break out of the core class concept by much. I was hoping that items can fix that, but nothing really popped up. :/

Now on to trying Witch Doctor and Monk. Inferno can go to hell with all the monster ability combos.
