Hmm....so I was thinking of picking up Orcs Must die and IB, but then I noticed that Trials HD is on sale as well. I just didn't mention it because I figured I'd just pick op Evolution instead; would anyone suggest picking it up over Orcs or IB?

I prefer both Orcs and IB to Trials.

Personally, I didn't like Orcs Must Die after playing the trial. It's probably because I'm tired of playing Tower Defense games, but I thought it was o.k; it didn't impress me. You should give it a try and see what you think.

I think Iron Brigade is the better game though and if you play it online, it's a gets a lot better. However, the MP has connection issues (a lot of people that I've played with live in EU) and tends to lag like crazy. Plus if you want to go for a specific achievement or do a specific mission, it's best to play with either Gaffers or with friends. If you like loot games like Diablo and Borderlands, this game will feed your loot whore addictions.

I'd hesitate to recommend either on XBLA, because OMD plays much better on the PC and Iron Brigade is getting a PC port soon too. But I guess if it was a choice between the two then IB has online play over OMD.

I don't have a gaming PC, but I do I have 1600 MSP, and I'm just trying to see what's the best options are.

yep. it's the second best game on XBLA, right after Evo.

So HD and Orcs, or HD and IB?

I would definitely go with HD and one of them, but it's worth downloading the trials to see which you prefer, because I think there's probably a 50/50 split of people that prefer one over the other, they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

did they ever fix/patch M&M:CoH insane long load times? or is it still jank from how it was at launch?

Don't know how it was at launch but the loads are pretty long. Didn't really affect my enjoyment much, though, it was only annoying a couple of times when I wanted to travel from one end of a map to the other, but that generally only happened once per stage when I was mopping up at the end.

The was apparently a patch to M&M: COH that adjusted some things (I hear Varkas Special was toned down, but I don't see concise patch notes), and added the ability to play / Fight the bosses as DLC.

I don't think the loading was ever addressed, because the devs mentioned on this very forum that there wasn't much to do; it's an HD 2D game with no "cheats" (like 3D backgrounds, or framey animation) on consoles with limited RAM.

100% worth is for the glorious animation and art, I'd say. The loading never really bothered me at all while playing, and it wasn't bad like the mysteriously-bad (like 2/3 minute on certain systems) loading thats plagued Konami-related XBLA releases like Vandal Hearts and Hard Corps Uprising.

I don't have Beyond Good & Evil but I remember not thinking it was all it was hyped up to be when I beat it last gen.

Anyone have opinions on Outland?

I enjoyed Outland for what it was - a Metroid-lite action game. It also has a unique Ikaruga type switching mechanic put to use in the platforming and puzzles. It's got its roots in the Metroid exploration style but becomes a unique action/platformer because of the latter feature. It's fun. I recommend it. Also, try Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet if you end up liking this game.

Anyone have opinions on Outland?

An idea (take Ikaruga and put that in a platformer) simply doesn't work that well and ran out of steam by its first of many laps. As an exploration game, it's fine, because the controls are great and there are platforms, but as a game, it's not. Although the game doesn't give you much reason to actually explore but to collect-to-collect so you can unlock a gallery. And, there really isn't that much exploration and not that much backtracking, though the latter doesn't bother me much at all. The environments weren't all that varied. Enemies not varied. "Puzzles" not varied, though I can't even call them that. Etc.

If you're going to take an idea and expand on it (which Ikaruga actually already did with a previous Treasure game that I for the life of me can't remember), then you have to improve and expand on it. This game does neither. It's inferior, completely inferior, but for 5 bucks, I see no issue in finding out for yourself.

I actually forgot about the sale yesterday, so I'm not sure what to buy. I kind of what something simple, simple meaning that it's not about story or anything; something I can play whilst playing podcast or TV in the background. I was thinking either Super Meat Boy or Trials Evo. Although, Bastion does look really awesome though....I'm fucking indecisive as hell...

Bastion isn't a game you can play with stuff in the background though. You need to listen to a narrator for the full story and experience. It's one of my favorite games on the platform though.

Evo is literally the perfect game to play with a podcast, radio, music, or other media in the backround. i do it every day. turn off in game music and you are set.

joy ride turbo seems pretty good (played the demo). nice visuals, tons of stuff to find, good controls (a bit simple). seems like a lot of content for 800 mspoints.

Great day for XBLA. JoyRide the way it was originally meant to be played... and two nice SEGA collections. The presentation on the Vintage Collections is excellent. Looking forward to spending time with all of today's releases.

It's a shame we're coming off one of the biggest Arcade promotions. :( Makes me wonder how many still have their eyes and wallets glued to those games.

I just wish I could buy the games in the Vintage Collections separately. I have no desire to play Shinobi or Hang-on but I'd gladly pay 400 points for Alex Kidd, just for the nostalgia trip.

No doubt. It's going to be hard for me to tear myself away from Minecraft... but with today's releases.. I've bought more titles than I did with the entire Arcade Next promo.

I also now have a theory as to why XBLA games went to 400 points. We are now seeing windows phone games come out at 99 cents.. second one in 3 weeks and they include 200 points. Just a theory but it would have looked bad if 10+ dollar games on the 360 came packed with the same achievement and gamerscore points of a 99 cent phone game.

Just a theory

Anyone have opinions on Outland?

Great concept and visual style, but ultimately fails because of repetitive environments, lack of rewards for exploration and overly segmented level design. At first glance it looks like a Metroidvania, but in reality it's just a linear platformer with way too much backtracking. Still worth playing if you get it for cheap.

I think that's a very good theory.

Probably one of the arguments, but the growth of the platform in general, the fact that achievements sell games and a justification for higher price points like Minecraft culminated into this.

Watching this thread like a hawk for a Guilty Gear date.

:o couldn't disagree more.

Outland is the best XBLA/PSN release of last year. Immaculate and smooth controls, fantastic boss design, and clever use of the underlying gimmick all elevate it to a spectacular experience, IMO.

same here. Loved dead nation and super stardust, but outland is mediocre.
