Nonsense. Neither Patrick, Jeff or Ryan would give Diablo 3 the time investment it requires to write a proper review.
I dare say even Brad's review is quite premature, seeing as he probably hasn't even started Hell yet, and that's where the game really gets good. (my apologies if you did, Brad)
Judging Diablo 3 on a single run-through on normal is completely missing the point of why many people play these games, none of the other staff members have expressed any real interest in the game besides Brad, so it's only natural he reviews it.
wouldn't be better if some of the reviews were done by the non-fanboy members for that particular game of GB?
Like, someone other than Jeff do the MK reviews and someone other than Brad do the SC and Diablo ones?
Did anyone expect Brad to give Diablo 3 anything other than a 5/5?
There's a difference between a fan and a fanboy.
If I was looking at a review for purchasing decision, I would perhaps prefer someone with some context in the genre or franchise of whatever it was I was looking at. I could see where it could make something seem biased or overly positive/negative as a result, but if they can put into words their reasoning then that's all I would want.wouldn't be better if some of the reviews were done by the non-fanboy members for that particular game of GB?

Which one would describe the state of Blizzard's servers the past week as "smooth sailing?"
Blizzard made no attempt to reinvent the wheel a couple of years ago when it revitalized StarCraft after its decade-long absence, choosing instead to simply modernize and spit-polish that franchise's well-known fundamentals until they reached the company's trademark high-gloss sheen. They've taken the same tack in reviving Diablo after its own 12-year hiatus
Putting aside the onerous DRM and at times game breaking internet connection requirement...has Brad not played the first two Diablos? The entire leveling and skill system has been overhauled. For a game with a lot going on like Mass Effect that might be a small tweak, but considering leveling is one of only two mechanics in a Diablo game...it's a pretty massive deal that they completely gutted and rebuilt it.
Like it or not, Diablo III is a whole hell of a lot more than simply a spit-polish.
As to there being no issues after the first day and a half? haha. There have been multiple planned server downtimes since then and more issues with log in errors.
It might still have been "smooth sailing" for him, if he got lucky and didn't encounter those issues.
Well Brad seems to love everything about the game except some of the UI. There are some rose-colored glasses on surely, because I think there are many issues with the game.
That doesn't sound like much fun for them.wouldn't be better if some of the reviews were done by the non-fanboy members for that particular game of GB?

That's generally how Brad views games he really likes. Remember the Skyrim GOTY debates?
I know I'm not the average user but of all the content they produce, the reviews are least interesting to me. There opinions are usually perfectly clear after listening to the podcast and watching Quick Looks.
If I had control of the content being produced by the Giant Bomb crew, it would be endless scrub league tournaments, quick looks and random PC videos, all day, everyday. No reviews, no previews, no events. Also, the site would likely have been shut down within 6 months because the content would be catered to crazy people like myself.

They changed plenty of systems in Starcraft 2 as well, but the end result is the same. The game ends up playing and looking extremely similar to the previous one despite changing some stuff under the hood, which is his point.Putting aside the onerous DRM and at times game breaking internet connection requirement...has Brad not played the first two Diablos? Someone who hasn't run into many issues after the first day?
So...E3 podcasts. Are we doing one large thread for all of 'em like last year?

How the hell do you have time for that?I'm so glad I cut down on my gaming podcasts. Last E3 I was listening to half a dozen a week. Now it's just GB (Well, and Idle Thumbs when it's about).
I'll fit them in to my week better!

The expansion is already OOS

But I don't really anymore, hence cutting them out.

No problems at all once on my end. Anecdotal of course, and hopefully that doesn't change nowBrad must be living in a bubble if he thinks D3's server situation has been "smooth sailing" since the first 36 hours.
