That WD looks great. As for FA, it's useful and I suppose if you go the full minion/pet route it could be really useful, but on Hell I found other passive skills too important to use FA. I use Fetish Army though, pretty useful to distract the enemy and get damage out.

Once my group gets to Hell I'm not going to use pets as much as I do now. I'll probably still keep the Army and switch the Garg out with Big Bad Voodoo. I had all of the pets active at once, (did it for fun, didn't even know about the achievement) and I also had the giant toad and giant spider going. It looked crazy awesome.

I was more talking about the Demon Hunter and Wizard changes than the Monk, since the latter was announced and explained. Not really trying to make value judgments on whether or not they are good changes as I'm not anywhere near Inferno with any of these classes.

I don't think the abilities in question for Wiz/DH were complete and total game breaking bad though. Yeah, they were really really good, and gave those classes a clear advantage, but not enough of one to destroy the economy or anything.

Maybe they need some more sleep over there... This has been a pretty bad launch. Tolerably bad because I love the game, but, for friends who are on the fence about picking it up or not I think I'm just going to tell them to wait a couple weeks.

Still felt rushed and poorly thought out. AFAIK the rune for Force Armor for Wizards was patched to simply do nothing. Like, literally completely inactive, supposedly until they can figure out what to do with it. So Wizards were going out using it, and chain dying because the text is still there on the tooltip, there are no patch notes, it was a hot fix, and the rune still exists, it just didn't do anything anymore.

I think they have hotfixed/changed this now, but that was the word on the EU servers for hours.

The changes on all 3 classes reek of

"Oh shit change it!"

"Change it to what?"

"Anything, just change it."

*click* *click* *click*

"Done."
No force armor still works, just not if the hit does more than 100% of your max HP

God, I fucking LOVE this game guys.

I'm in LOOOOOOVE

What thread are you reading?

Hey, hey now mister, I know, I was just a bit upset when they took the servers down with no explanation in the ingame chat. :P

I think I made around 20-30 new pieces of armor with random properties, and none of them turned out to have strength! Shoulders, breastplate, pants, and perhaps bracers/gauntlets. Is there a way to increase the % for strength on items crafted with random properties?

Loving the game. I played the shit out of beta and I'm a recovering WoW player (stopped after I played hardcore in Wrath) and I must say that this game is much more to my speed. I am enjoying the grind... and it doesn't even feel like a grind right now. Last night I farmed the end of Act 3 Nightmare to get a few easy levels (52 Monk right now)... and it wasn't boring.

Killing shit quickly is fun and rewarding.

Couple of things I want to comment on--

AH needs work. I finally got it working to where I can find all the items I want... it's doing what I want it to do, now. Haven't really explored selling items just yet (I used to play the AH Markets in WoW and I expect to do the same with Diablo) but I can see it working out for me with how fast these items sells. My problem with the AH is the fact that it's buggy as hell. I've lost a bunch of gold to bidding that was never returned to me. Also, auctions that I was told I had an error on... or that had been sold prior... I've found out later that I had won. This is a problem because typically when I'm searching the AH... I'm only looking for an item at that moment. How many one-handed 120 Dex Axes do I need? Certainly not 4! Sure I can turn around a post it on the AH again... but this shouldn't be happening.

Act IV sucks. Outside of the final encounter (which I do like, mind you) it feels as if it's the least inspired Act in the whole game... BY A LONG SHOT. It feels rushed and empty. The rest of the game is alive and full and just... well... better. Buddy of mine and I were running it together the other night (he develops games for a living) and we both felt it at almost the exact same time. It doesn't suck so much that it ruins the game for me... Acts 1-3 are truly incredible.

All I got for now. Will be steamrolling the rest of Nightmare when I get a chance (time is limited nowadays) and I'm really looking for to the difficulty bump that Hell will bring. I'm enjoying the pace I have right now... not too slow... but certainly not too fast either. Enjoying this ride.

Definitely not a fan of stealth nerfs, we seriously need some official patch notes. My highest lvl character right now is still 41 so I have yet to try these builds but I feel for those who didn't realize their skills got nerfed and lose lvl 60 HC characters over it :/ Man it would suck to be a customer service rep at Blizzard over the next few days...

Act IV is a shame really because visually it is actually quite nice. I just wished it was a more fleshed out chapter like 1-4. I just don't know where they are going in the expansion.

So are the awesome wizzy and DH builds dead now? I can feel a bit better about my monk that's still in the middle of hell, then.

Act4 itself felt more like a 'final dungeon' thing as a whole. Sort of a deja vu of switching to the third disc on FF7 only to finish the game 2hrs later.

Huh...DH SS nerf has made things VERY difficult. I can't solo through Act 3 Hell anymore. Elite packs just do far too much constant damage. Lack of mob control really impairs the class.

I just want my alts to get to Hell and have fun. Normal/Nightmare over and over is dreary with how easy they are and how useless the loot is in the grand scheme of things :(

No full list but:

Monk - Boon of Protection (Mantra of Healing Rune) capped to absorbing HP equal to the amount the Mantra heals over 3s.
DH - Smokescreen lasts 1s, 2s with Rune, and has a 2.5s Cooldown.
Wizard(?) - Force Armor something. Not sure if this was changed already or still in the works. Probably a Cooldown on the effect occurring.

On that note, how does Blizzard do hotfixes? I mean, they happen and then it's always "Oh, right, guess we can make a list in like a day. Thanks for reminding us to do that."

I was on last night when the smoke screen nerf was being rolled out. You could start a game and get a server that had been updated or get one that hadnt.

What really irks me about this game is that it is fun until I encounter the jailer that melees me for more health than I have. What's the point, Blizzard? What do you expect me to do here? My class is built around kiting. Go outside and try to fly a kite without moving. That's where I'm at right now.

So I was messing around a bit in inferno with builds and I stumbled across something that I've found works really well for act 1. I tried a bit of act 2 and the mobility actually made fighting a lot of the enemies (at least in open areas) a lot easier, although I'm still WAY under-geared for some of the enemies there. The idea is to stack as many defenses as possible to survive then use the Sprint skill for extra mobility.

I had to give up dual wielding for a shield so I boosted block chance as much as possible (+5% block chance from Kotuur's Brace - ~50k, +11% block chance from Justice Lantern - ~300k). You can get shields with up to 28% block giving you a total of 44% chance to block. After that I started to reintegrate dexterity back into my attributes boosting my dodge chance to 15.4%. Eventually I think I'm going to try to aim for mid 20s.

The biggest difference with this build though is mobility. Sprint allows you to actually kite and when you're soloing you can use the speed to trick packs into splitting up where you can stun lock them and pick them off. To stun I use a combination of Frenzy, Ground Stomp, and Seismic Slam. The only one that got very little use in my run was Seismic Slam. I thought I'd have to do more kite, turn around, slam but I ended up not having to do as much of that as I expected. A tweak here might be to run ignore pain with the 20% life leech which makes you almost invulnerable if your DPS is high enough. I've found with Ignore Pain you can stand on lava/poison for the 5 seconds. This is particularly helpful when enemies have the ability to wall/jail you because that's the main enemy of this build.

For groups of whites, what I would do is run in and let them hit me first to build up my Revenge. This is a bit risky so you can run in and start frenzy if you want but I don't lead with stun. The reason for this is stun->revenge combo is very strong and can bring entire groups of white enemies in act 1 to half health or below. After you revenge (which will top off your health) start focusing down the weakest enemies while keeping revenge up. Groups of regular enemies are pretty trivial using revenge for AOE which is why you can probably socket out Seismic Slam.

For tougher enemies, I use sprint to kite them. You can actually do hit and runs where you sprint away and as they're chasing you, you turn back and take shots at them. Being able to move so quickly allows you to do things like positioning a perfect revenge on multiple enemies when you're low on health. I've also for the first time since playing Diablo been able to start effectively avoiding walls, those ice bombs!!, and arcane sentries. Enemies with the ice bombs essentially become an enemy with one less modifier because they toss out the bombs and you sprint out of its range so they start chasing you and you can reengage without a problem.

Since sprint allows you to get away from enemies really quickly, I'm using War Cry with the healing rune to allow my passive regen to fill my health orb. I can kite away, let my cooldowns drop and then come back in with enough health to tank 1 or 2 shots most of the time.

I think I rolled through 8 blue groups and 5 yellow enemies on the run with very few setbacks. If you're a barb that hasn't tried sprint out, I definitely recommend it!

Almost all of the equipment I have is in the cheap to very cheap range (20-100k). The most expensive stuff was my sword (350k) and the Justice Lantern ring (300k).

The big question now is whether or not I can farm gear from Act 1 which will allow me to increase my armor/resistances enough to push through into Act 2..

Nice post baba, i need to get pass nightmare first! So far i have done a all stuns build that has allowed me to chain stun most groups but my dps sucks.

Dh, no. All that crying is a load of crap. If you did it properly you never spammed SS everytme it was up.

My Wiz is on level 45 in Nightmare. Going to try to get her to level 50 by tonight. I am in love with this game. <3

edit: woah. almost an exact post as Snkfanatic. haha.

I'm in hell and I've never even used SS.

You may try it out then, because that's what you are supposed to use if you get jailed.

Oh I agree completely that it's beautiful.... but I think they had a missed opportunity. I still love the color scheme of the Act... but I really think they missed the boat. I really think it could have been done even better. Like, Act 2 really blew me away. The sands, the sewers, the foresty fields..... really really just so well though out and executed magnificently. Act 4 felt like it was in a different game compared to the game Act 2 is in.

Act4 itself felt more like a 'final dungeon' thing as a whole. Sort of a deja vu of switching to the third disc on FF7 only to finish the game 2hrs later.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I can't disagree that it has that third disc feel (great comparison)... but I'm not sure you can disagree that it probably wasn't what they were after. It feels too empty. The length of the Act doesn't bother me at all. I just think that when you compare how full of life the other three acts are compared to the fourth... there is just too stark of a difference.

I just beat the Act II boss and my DPS is around 50. Am I doing something wrong? I have no socketed items but all my items are rare.

Nope, you're fine.

My DPS going into Act III was around 70.

My DPS going into Act IV was around 400.

It was quite a jump for me, no AH just drops.

Just cracked open my laptop to resolve overheating issues. Reapplied some thermal paste to the GPU/CPU. Core GPU temps when idle dropped from 75 to 47. I haven't got to test D3 yet but most games would drive the temp up until my PC actually shutoff (109 range). I don't think I willl have issues anymore though.

It was a mess in there. I've had that laptop for 4 years it came to Iraq with me and I never once even blew it out with compressed air or anything. I smoke around it and everything else. Those heatsinks were pretty clogged up. I am happy I decided to give it a little maintenance. Now to crank the settings up on D a little bit tonight after work! Woo!

aww why? Think they'll buff him a bit? after seeing that pic i kinda wanna make a WD and focus Gargantuan and the giant toad.

Because even though he swallows people and removes them from the action for a little while he does hardly no damage and you can't damage the enemy he has swallowed until he spits them back out. Either they should buff him to where he can completely destroy the enemy he swallows or allow you to damage the enemy while it is inside.

Gargy is great. He's a huge tank that even has his own buffs when he is surrounded. The smaller toads are a lot better than the huge one. I still don't use them though.

I'd do the same the lag in this game is enough to turn people off on it. If the game ran smooth most of the time but with balance and lag on fritz why give em a bad experience knowing it will be much more?

Act4 definitely has a different feel, but they do present it as 'time is running out! Hurry hurry hurry!' to justify the lack of interactions. I'd have liked to seen a fleshed out act4 as well, but I also can't really see what they would have done to achieve that. Guess the Act3 ending cutscene event could have come after a few quests you do in Act4, but then again, you have no business to be 'up there' if it weren't for the cutscene events.
