People assuming that force armor is useless now are misinformed. They just scaled it to HP to prevent people from using the super low HP builds. Here's the math:

your HP/0.65 = maximum HP attack you can take before getting one-shotted

In my case, I have 20k HP, so 20,000/0.65 = 30,769. I need to get hit by an attack that takes away 30,769 HP or more to be one-shotted. It's not that bad of a nerf than you think.

Edit: fixed my math lol

is the friend list down? ZERO people online in my list which is unusual.

edit: nm, one logged in. guess people just have a life.

Haven't played a barb but up through inferno a monk with decent dear can definitely do fine. Once you hit inferno you really need a large amount of gear to solo anything successfully.

You don't need to max out dodge to survive in inferno, you do need an absurd amount of gear that will either take a ton of time to farm out or a luck to nail something you can sell for a ton of gold. You can solo inferno as a monk but you need some ridiculous stat lines along the line of 35k+ HP, 500+ resists to all, 30-40% dodge, 5-6k armor, 10k+ damage and enough increased attack speed to keep spirit generation high enough.

Considering not everyone is going to land a jackpot item they can sell on the AH it really will take weeks of farming gold to be able to buy everything you need. It's pretty depressing.

I'm afraid to keep playing my Monk now. :(

Nerfing Boon of Protection makes my current DPS build kind of worthless too. I was wondering why I was getting mobbed so easily.

Indeed, that is what I meant.

Basically:

If you have (max) 100HP and a boss would have hit you for 150 damage, then the skill YESTERDAY would have absorbed all 150 and you would have taken 0 damage.

However, TODAY if you have (max) 100HP and a boss hits you for an attack that would do 150 damage, your shield will absorb 100HP and you will take 50 damage.

Dead wrong dude. Energy armor has never absorbed 100% of an attack, it's always capped the max taken at 35%. And the change has made the ABSORB amount 100% of your HP, not the total attack amount.

See my post above to see that all they've done is added a ceiling.

Whatever server maintenance they did recently has made the game pretty unplayable due to lag spikes. I was fine before hand. Hate how bug fixes often times lead to more problems.

So I have a level 56 witch doctor and I think my stats are way too low, can anyone confirm this? My Damage is 3714.05 and my Maximum Life is 6243.

Damage is ok, but your life is absolutely terrible. 20k should be your bare minimum.

Wow, really? No wonder I'm getting killed constantly. I upgrade that with Vitality right?

Edit: Have I been working too much on raising my Intelligence instead of my Vitality as well? Intelligence is at 1264 and Vitality is 193...

Looks like you posted the thumbnail of your image, can you post the larger one? Vitality is just as important as Dex once you get to Hell. In Nightmare you should be fine without really prioritizing it.

Act 2 inferno is a mess.

Drops are below the enemy levels that you killed. The worse of it is that Hell loot is also Level 47+ and they're just better than Nightmare Level 47+ loot. It's like they designed item drops from the bottom up and never realized that you can just get better loot from later Acts/difficulties. There's an obvious progression for loot but it actually dropping is behind character/game progression so you just see better things in the AH.

I think that this is all part of the plan since character progression doesn't mean jack anymore since there's no reason to make new characters once you get them all to 60. It's all about end-game now.

i'm impressed you survived to that level with so little life. i would def put that as your #1 priority to upgrade. check out the AH, you can probably find some ok-ish int/vit items for under 5k.

Yeah, if the damn AH would work I'm trying to buy chest armor that has 101 Vitality and 3 slots that I plan on filling with Vitality gems. Maybe some rings too when I get some more gold.

So essentially if im gonna get one shotted im gonna die else its capped at 35%?

Ok this is hand down my GOTY so far and I doubt it will be topped by anything else.

I've played so much of this game in such a short lapse of time that I can barely believe it myself. I love my barbarian. He's a killing machine when I want to, or a "against the odds" survival beast. First I was going all out dps, with a pure dps build I've found experimenting. Then I was looking for maximum +dmg and strength. From what I've gathered, dual wield gives extra damage, which is contrary to what I've read in this topic many pages back. I was pure destruction incarnate.

Needless to say, I was Barbarian "the quick bringer of quick death". Everything in my passage was out in only a hit or 2. Multiple mobs? Pffff. I hit so fast with frenzy that everything dies just as fast as an AOE skill. Harder packs? Pop out Earthquake and switch to cleave if necessary. Even Nightmare was a cakewalk save for 2 fights. People were constantly telling me how awesome I was, that I was making this all a breeze, that they loved how quick the progression was, that my dps was unbelievable.

But then something happened...

I've started playing Hell. At only 9k hp at the beginning, I was one shotted by elites. Normal mobs were a threat if not killed a bit separated, and really, all the elemental damages the mobs and elites were doing made it unplayable for my pathetic low hp character. I've also read how melee were supposedly weak in Hell and Inferno and that discouraged me a bit. So I've started purchasing vitality gear and changed my spec to something more defensive and survivalist. The fun is back! With 43k hp and offensive/survivalist gear, I am nearly invincible even in the most unlikely situation. I simply tank all the elites and survive all their elemental and physical damages. Hell is quite a bit easier with a tank because everyone else simply have to avoid the environment damage, which already do enough damage like it is (damn blue spinning orbs).

So far in Act II, nearly done with it. I really can't wait for Inferno. I've heard it treats you horribly.

Well, solo'd my way to Act III on Inferno with my level 45 WD today. Kinda starting to get bored. I'm hardly, if ever, getting any better loot for my WD and aside from the occasional elite mob group and boss fight, Inferno is turning out to be just as much a cake walk as hell.

Damn Blizzard, those are some sweet knee-jerk reaction nerfs you did to my class today. :-/

It wasn't just one of the three major "fixes" - it was that all three happened at the same time.

They're so quick to nerf, so slow to balance. Even though Wizards got hit, I'll most likely be switching to my level 30 one tonight. At least kiting will feel natural then.

So far in Act II, nearly done with it. I really can't wait for Inferno. I've heard it treats you horribly.

It treats melee in particular with cheesy and unbearable difficulty. If you're a Barbarian you will need ungodly improvements in gear to be viable and pretty much every defensive ability you have.

Why not play with people then? Makes it tougher.

So how can a wizard beat this? Act 2 spoilers. Inferno.

Early in the act, you spawn inside the throne room where you fight Belial. Around 20 snakes shows up.

What can I do?

You're not in inferno if your'e only lvl 45...

I went back to D2 just to compare the two, it's been a while.. at first it was kind of jarring because there's so much of it that has been streamlined in the sequel: stamina, town portals, potions and so forth - you don't have to manage this stuff in D3.

But man, after an hour or so the game really came in to its own and I was flying through Act I, still an amazing game. It's so goddamn satisfying to just run through the dungeons, kill everything, pop in to town, sell all my shit and then go back out again.

Level 45, inferno?
wut

seriously wtf were they thinking when they made Smoke Screen useless. 1 second? 2 with rune....lol

this is terrible balancing.

now i get to play as a class that dies in 1-4 hits regardless of armor, resist, vit and i have no way of evading it. terrible

My barbarian experience aligns with yours. Hell required a rethink of my gear and skills, no longer did my Leap-Ground Stomp-Whirlwind take down everything in seconds.

But I figured out a new build and am currently blowing mobs apart again, more powerful than ever before. I can take every mob including elites with ease. Awesome class.

Well it's official.. I am addicted to the game.

I have cut down my sleep time so I can get in more hours before and after work. When I am not playing I am thinking of the game.

The level of addiction for me has been more than with D2 starting off. D2 felt like a slow burner to me first time playing but had huge pay offs later off. This game keeps on giving the more you progress.

I changed my DH build a bit. It's not as fun as before (Rapid Fire felt SO good!) but it's much more effective in the long run. There are SSSOOO many skill builds I wanna try out once I reach LVL60.

seriously wtf were they thinking when they made Smoke Screen useless. 1 second? 2 with rune....lol

Smoke Screen's biggest advantage is that it completely disjoints spells/states. You can get out of so many stuff with it including stuff like the stun from Butcher's hook. I am using it after the nerf and it's still good but you gotta be on the money with the activation. My health isn't that high but that 1 second of SS on NM has made sure that I have died only once (got cornered by an elite mob).

I do agree that the "3 hatred for 14 discipline" rune is completely bull shit now. In that regard the nerf was knee jerk because it totally makes some runes on SS a joke.

Edit: Looking better :D you will find a nice 2h or 1h and offhand and your dps will bump up quite a bit in the coming levels :). The dps increase from lvl 50-60 is quite high.

Sounds like Nightmare, and that is a cakewalk solo in comparison to coop, the difficulty ramps up considerably the more players you have.

Wave of Light with Explosive light rune is ridiculously awesome. I'm constantly dropping 20+ mobs in one hit.

One thing about my monk is I can't seem to use any other spirit generator than Deadly Reach. I love the range.

This doesn't make any sense.

Nightmare in a lot of ways is easier than Normal especially if you are using AH. My mind was blown when I got into a party with someone who was going through Act 1 of Nightmare but had Square Gems... like wtf you don't even unlock that shit until you play Hell. He explained that he was on his 2nd character and he already had the upgrade for the jewelers but this got me thinking... there is nothing stopping from people starting off Nightmare to deck their equipment with Square gems they purchase from AH to boost up the stats. I am still on Triangle gems right now...

I think Inferno is definitive of a thoughtless design plan. It's the typical soft-cap placed by MMO makers that give players 'something to do' while the developers get around to effectively planning it out.

It's the level infinity mob boss while the player cap is 50. Yet whenever any group can find a way to take it out, the developers 'fix' it so it becomes nigh impossible again because it never was meant to be taken out at this moment or as quickly. My brother's LS in FFXIV just took out Garuda in the fastest time possible using strategy and timing. After a congrats from the games director himself, they 'fixed' it so that the strategy wouldn't work.

That a huge number of player abilities are rendered pointless in inferno show how ill-designed it was, and that any viable builds will invariably be limited since they will focus on a few skills and extreme gearing of things you're likely going to pay for rather than find.

The major skills being 'fixed' (and in a lazy manner nonetheless) are in actuality the nullification of the abilities themselves that lead to a modicum of success show that Blizzard doesn't intend Inferno to be completed in general at this point. At this point they'd rather take away to protect Inferno than assist, which underscores the intent. More than likely, they will iron out inferno once they are sure the rest of the game is okay and then they'll drop new items (worthy of the RMAH I'm sure) and then patch Inferno to be entertaining as opposed to nonsense.
This post makes way too much sense to not be true.

Ok, so lvl 60 barb here.

Nothing was reallya problem till inferno, mainly died like 10 times.

But then inferno comes and kick my ass hard. So, any tip/ viable build ?

I have really no clue since I cleared the other difficulties so easily...
