Oh and they're gonna nerf Revenge. Great.

I've just finished Act 1 Nightmare with my Wizard, sitting at about 600dps. I don't feel ready to hit Act 2 yet, I'd like to gear up.

The AH seems the best way, but what's my best way to farm gold right now? I don't know how a lot of you have hundreds of thousands, I'm sitting at less than 10k.

Though I did upgrade the BS a fair amount, which I am regretting... But let's not dwell on the past.

Yeah.. don't upgrade the smith or salvage weapons. Sell everything, save the really good yellows for the AH and your bank roll will climb in no time.

Also, in Nightmare, you really don't need your stats to be super good to climb. It starts to make a really big difference in Hell, but enjoy the time you have in Nightmare where you can still use the build you want and items you have.

This is what I use in inferno to kite mobs in act 1. I usually die 1-2 times against uniques if they have an annoying combo.

Death Grasp/Aoe Slow - Increased Slow
Splinter Darts
Dire Bats
Spirit walk with mana regen
Soul harvest with life leech
Mass confusion with 20% more damage

Blood Ritual
Spirit Vessel
The talent that increases mana by 20% and restores 1% mana every second.

Not the build or spells I would like to use but it works for me. Summons are useless when it comes to fighting uniques. If you're in a group you could use hex or the buff totem in some fights.

Oh, so they're defending legendaries being worst than blues?

I don't understand the game fully. People say that in order to beat inferno you need to farm the previous difficulty, similar to d2's nightmare and hell. The thing is, hell rare drops didn't blow nightmare sets/uniques out of the water like they do this game.

As long as it is the damage only and not the regen .....
lol, they're probably making it a cooldown so it'll basically be a nerf to both the damage and its regen.

eh... fuck it I give the fuck up, inferno with barb can go die in a god damn fire, can't even finish off elite mobs dying 1000 times and they regen and respawn, great.

Once you have about 900 or so resistances after your shout, you can easily face roll it, the problem you see, is getting there.

Anyway, I'm with a monk right now, level 38 but crazy low DPS (567.80). I know I need to equip items that have more damage... but, is there any case where the damage showing up (usually negative numbers) might actually change once I equip the item because it has more dexterity or whatever?

If so, what kind of stats should I be looking for?

Maybe its me, but 567 DPS at level 38 seems on par with where you should be. Don't get thrown by the folks twinking out their guys with AH bought stuff.

The DPS deltas always take stat values into account. Good ways to augment your damage - stick a red ruby in a socketed weapon, get socketed rings/amulets for extra dex buffs. Also, equip items with increases to attack speed. Even ~10% attack speed buffs can have a dramatic effect on your DPS. Also, items that have small damage increases such as a ring that might be +8-13 damage, can have a dramatic impact - the stat values of the item itself don't seem significant, but don't forget it's being run at x% of your base dex.

Got this from the AH for 6000 gold

Some people just don't know

The next weapon up with 75 INT and >10% attack speed was over 30,000

Not that I'm complaining

THIS GAME IS MAKING ME TEAR MY HAIR OUT

so i'm on Act 2 beginning Hell.

Witch Doctor with 4500 dps and 1400 armor. I KEEP FUCKING DYING

RARE/CHAMPS ARE NOT DIFFICULT THEY ARE FUCKING CHEESY AND TACKY

holy hell I am so angry.

who the flying fucking batshit insane hell thought mobs like Jailer, Mortar and Invincible Minions was a good idea?!?!?! WHO?!?!

aaaaaaaaaaargh

somebody help me please or i am going to cry

Better armor and more vitality! I'm exactly where you are and my armor is at 3500k

That's about what its worth. 1 handed weapons for wiz/WD is generally a huge loss of damage so it doesn't really make sense for them to buy them. It also has no vit and conflicting stats (dex is wasted or int is wasted) as you dont need dodge or intel resistances at that level.

Not saying it's a bad weapon, it's got two heavy stats and a gem socket.

I have a bunch of low level gear taking up space, I'm just offloading it for 4k and even then sometimes it doesn't get found.

I should just drop them and not bother helping some people. My AH slots are too precious. Also 48h default is stupid. I'd take a 3-6h, maybe 12h rotation max.

Your scenario: You hunt for an item
My scenario: Buying gear for level 32 alt, buy anything with high DPS, IAS for 20k

If you guys want to make cash just poach things that cost >300k and buy them for 50-75k if you are lucky. Nabbed my dagger today, bought it for 500k, could sell for over a mil.

How so? I've read that 2 handers do better later on as the off-hand isn't necessary and you want maximum damage, but looking at the DPS of weapons at level 41 it doesn't seem to be the case

What I don't get is, if it's that worthless why not just vendor it or drop it? Auction slots are valuable and if your at a level where a Dagger that can be slotted to over 100 DPS is worthless to you, you should be rolling in dough, or have stuff that's actually worth selling.

When I was shopping for that, the stats I was looking for commanded very similar prices all around. I was pretty impressed, and then I saw that.

Makes me wonder if the market will ever stabilize

I can see a fair amount of 120+ 100+ intellect 2 handers for under 20k

and don't get the wrong idea, I'm only saying it's a fair price. you could potentially double your damage scale at that level, however.

because with a 1her speed you are spending more resources to do the same damage and if you use anything that dots you are gimping it.

While I don't 'roid rage about it, I pretty much feel the same way. Most of the level is pretty easy, but then you get the right combo of elites and it's pretty much insta-death. Even with Spirit Walk and slows. You Spirit Walk out of a root only to be teleported/jailed and utterly crushed .5 seconds later. The difficulty curve between trash mobs and some of these elites is way too steep.

Then of course you stick with it, a few deaths and a 2k repair bill later, and you're rewarded with some level 43 blue loot. Low-40's loot in Hell where you're required to be 50 just to enter? Fuck off, Blizz.

Sold an item I crafted with my Level 10 Blacksmith for a profit. Blacksmith redeemed!

Well not really...

I need to progress in Inferno and hope for some recipes I guess.

Or just buy them on the AH for 40-200k.

I've got 4 of them atm.

What's your armor rating/vitality at?

After the force armor nerf you are definitely going to need at least 30k, more realistically 40k+ to do inferno act 3+ as a wiz

Considering purples hit for 150k and the weakest mobs are hitting for like 10k each having an extra 10k isn't going to do much.

Right now I am using:

Garangutan with Rage rune
Zombie Charger with Bears
Soul Barrage with 3 Souls
Soul Harvest with 30% weapon dmg

Leaping Spiders
Haunt with extra Spirit
You have three single to low target DPS spells, no heal, no snare, no spirit walk. Game is working as intended if you ask me.

But I will say that WD just loses a lot of his flexibility, which is a shame and just poor class design.

For all you having trouble with inferno(I am too!) I've been able to move into killing champion packs with minimal deaths and actually progressing. I should be able to easily finish act 1 and some of 2.

Here's the secret.

Get your resistances up. Everyone is spending all this time building health and armor and ignoring resistances, the weakest link of a hell mode character.

Try to use your passive abilities to get the most out of your resistance (as a monk, its cheaper to stack one for instance).

While you do often die of melee, the vast majority of deaths are caused by magical damage and you should be able to grab 200 resistances with little effort.

I sacrifice a lot to not get one shotted by ranged boss attacks that deal 52,000dmg.

Thoughts on Inferno after being carried by a DH:
1) Melee classes still get wrecked and are 100% CD dependent (Past Act 1)
2) Stacking slows is actually fucking amazing
3) Insta kill boss attacks and 'enrage timers' are stupid.
4) Ranged adds can go eat a fat one
5) Stacking the shit out of buffs is useful
6) Stacking Crit and IAS is not helpful when you die in 2 hits from any mob past Act 1
7) A lot of skills shine a lot more in Inferno and I'm glad I'm able to swap between 10 of them trying to take down a boss, then swap again for the next fight after a few deaths
8) Repairing armor for 6k every 5 minutes is expensive.
9) Movement speed is my new savior
You are scaring me. Makes me thing I should switch to a ranged class. I'm only 32.

I have a problem with how dmg works with Wizards. It kinda defeats the purpose of wands and staves all together; unless there are some legendary wands with good atk.

I can see a fair amount of 120+ 100+ intellect 2 handers for under 20k

I got this just now and it only cost 5K, haha. Hooray Auction House

Stats look pretty damn good and it's not far off from the highest listed weapon 100+ INT (for my level). DPS works out to only a negligble amount more though, so I'm not sure if I should use it. +40% crit looks pretty tempting, but I've got some good bonuses on my source.

Will definitely keep an eye out from now

not at all. I'm was kind of impressed that it was so cheap is all, seemingly because it had a wasted slot. Had the slot with the DEX not been there it might have looked like a really good blue. I'm guilty of the same actually.

Last week I threw a 120 dex bow because it had like 10 DEX. This is before I considered using a Wizard

I got 211. It's not really helping.

It's a lot easier to balanced ranged DPS vs tanking everything. I dunno where it will end up.
As was said maybe I just need another 500 resist on top of my 200. Not easy to get. At current prices and item flow it'd be like a good 10 million for some nice gear.
Rings alone are at least 1-2 mil.

You could just treat Inferno like some separate challenge and do it later.

My other big complaint is hit boxes / melee dodging / skill based combat.

Fucking Act IV boss has a teleport that insta kills you and b.net is so amazing I can't pop invuln / dodge on reaction. Also due to poor priority system. So many I know die from hitting their escape skill.

I'm trying to be more careful and play better, but it is very frustrating.

This is such an ass backwards game. Online DRM yet the game punishes you for playing with other people. I don't get it. I'm better off in private games where I can kill Elites instead of the larger health pool/damage in multiplayer.

200 resistances is to start inferno mode. you need 900 ish around act 3.

My bigger issue is with the way they average out gold and magic find. Playing with others is more fun, but I get rewarded less because of this mechanic.

Inferno is just a terribly designed mode, don't think I'll bother with it until they put some work into it.

My guess was around 650. Gonna take a stupid amount of time and money to get there.
As Monk I don't get all the more passive armor buffs Barbs get so I have to actively spend spirit and not DPS and continuously hit things to debuff them across 3 skills. Oh well.
Guess it's time to pick a resist and slot that passive so I get 900 resist easier.

This is the real answer. I'd glad it's there and doesn't stop at Hell though.

How are you getting penalised by this? If you have high GF/MF then your DPS should be lower than someone who stacked damage and hence you are benefitting from their increased damage just as they benefit of your increased GF/MF.

My monk is about to start Hell, am I fine with these stats? Should I pump vit more? My resistances are obviously low.

Nope, I would say not ready. Too low on life. Pimp sockets with +vitality and sacrifice some dmg for +int(resists). You can also up only one, lets say poison resist and then use monks passive so all will have level of the highest elemental resist.

Uhm...what? Think about it: with a gear where you sacrifice DPS for MF/GF, you LEECH off others for your own gains in public games. It is obvious why it is split.

Yes, this right here makes no goddamn sense.

"Your loot is your own!!! YAY! Individual drops for everyone!!!"

"Oh yeah, we are going to average your Magic Find against the other 3 PUG's nigh nullifying it, kthxbye."
