So, does anyone find any of the Skill Stats on items good? I haven't found a single one DH one good enough to give a shit about. So far they all seem useless.

There must always be a Diablo.

You can spend 5k on the auction house for the best gem that drops in game.... or spend 200k+ crafting it. Your choice.

Already leveled both crafters.
But you need to spend like a million to craft the top level gem so you can buy those gems for 5k but you are stuck at level 8 or so i heard. If you want the max level you still have to spend the money to upgrade Artisans. And you can actually craft quit good inferno starter gear but the problem is the random stats :(

They're for getting back to a far away location in the game without walking there.

I thought that was obvious.

Have you ever used one outside of a quest?

I feel like the exact same thing could be accomplished if a quest giver opened up a portal and told you to go through it. There is no freedom of movement or exploration, and waypoints are just a crafty way to trick me into thinking there is.

I didn't even feel comfortable in Act I farming until I had around 300-320 or so. Act 2 is really a 500 to even 600 resist sort of territory and you'll still get hurt hard by the great enemy of all mankind, fire chains+movement inhibitors.

@mercviper - Act 2 is just real hard. :/ . I have been working on getting more armor and using the dodge mantra+armor rune and it's helped, but I still have to evade some champion packs due to raw DPS. I think that 500+ resists, 9.5k-10k armor buffed, and 11k-12 DPS alongside 33-37k health are what is needed to make Act 2 more comfortable. I also think getting a shield with a good block % and block value really does make a large difference provided that your base armor values are sufficiently large. Example-

Mob hits for 20k white damage, 55% mitigation from armor pushes through 11k damage.
Mob hits for 20k white damage, 65% mitigation from armor pushes through 7k damage.
Mob hits for 20k white damage, 70% mitigation from armor pushes through 6k damage.
Mob hits for 20k white damage, 75% mitigation from armor and 25% block chance for average 2800 damage = average damage pushed through = 4.3k damage.

Items with life on hit and high dodge avoidance also ensure that you're not always taking that kind of damage or are healing for a bit in between this damage. You also have a healing cooldown and should have two on-use defensive cooldowns in Act 2 when you are just getting started with it (blind in addition to serenity). This also doesn't account for passives like Resolve, which can drop these numbers even further. As the mobs hit harder the mitigation becomes even more important.

Without a shield you'll never have the armor values needed to push mitigation up to levels where incoming damage is manageable on Act 2 unless you have extremely strong gearing elsewhere.

edit: I am 110% convinced that any challenge this game presents can be beaten through enough farming and elite items to get the math to work right. The only issue is if the items are prohibitively expensive or sufficiently rare that they are not available. Currently I think this is the case for the melee classes but that's not a long-term imbalance, today's best gear is tomorrow's hand-me-downs as the RNG continues to produce more and more copies of top-shelf loot for general consumption on the AH.

Sweet. Back to the Butcher for now then. just gotta farm up and get better gear (I still wear lvl 27 shoulders that I really really need to replace). Will definitely play around with a couple more builds too. The more kiting I do the more I think I should replace sweeping with ally... It's definitely nice to see a goal for me to reach to make Act 2 survivable.

What a great loot game...

"guys check my char, any tips?"
"AH"

"i have X dps, is that good for my lvl?"
"AH"

"wow normal/nm/hell/inferno is tough"
"AH"

"is it worth crafting"
"AH"

"So my barb..."
"AH"

Yeah, I'm beginning to lose faith in this game somehow, and its not the fault of Gaffers, it just feels like the whole game is engineered to push you towards the auction house. Sure, you can ignore it, and I have so far, but it bothers me that the auction house is the answer for everything, which seems like a deliberate decision made my Blizzard, what with itemisation the way it is.

Truth be told, I think the game would be far better off without it and the effect it has.

I've used them for farming with 5 Valor buffs. For the Skeleton King, say, I start up the last bit of that quest and work my way to where he is, but that only gets me 2 or 3 stacks. So then I waypoint over to the cemetery and pick off the skeleton that's always running around there and then one more from one of the crypts.

is it worth upgrading the jeweler??

I see that the price in the AH is always 10x cheaper than it is to make the damn jewel at the jeweler. Seems pointless right now. Will that change when I get to the really fancy jewels?

Um, what? Why is updating the jeweler useless? Don't you kind of have to in order to combine gems?

Upgrade him eventually but you get gems to drop up to around Perfect Squares or so? Buying the Gems below that are just cheaper than the costs of your own combines :/

You're so behind the curve that the people in Inferno are now supplying the AH with the highest gem drops pushing down the prices of all the others gems. So no, at this time it is not worth upgrading either the Blacksmith or the Jeweler.

Fuck, the jewels feel the most precious items of all and it's a pain to know they are mere pebbles in the AH.

If Blizzard had put a level restriction on the gems they would hold their value. Instead, people just buy the best one that's super cheap.

You are assuming that there are infinite providers in this game. False.
You wont get lv10+ gems without SOMEONE actually levelling the Jewelcrafters. If all followed your advice, no one would have anything :P Not to mention legendary recipes at Blacksmithes, lol, or a chance to craft good rares even if all you have is act1 blues from Inferno.

*keeps upgrading artisans, even if "AH" is the answer*

Random drops lend itself towards getting new equipment from other people. The Auction House merely helps facilitate this. What is useless to you isn't to someone else. If not for the AH, we'd probably be pointing people towards trade channels or just suggesting that they farm the hardest area they can clear for hours until they're good again.

But can you jump acts? (Serious question, I haven't really looked into it, but it didn't seem like you could.)

The reason I ask is because I enjoyed in D2 being able to go to A1, clear The Pit and the Mausoleum, then jump to A2 and clear the Ancient Tunnels, then head to A5 and do WSK. This way I wasn't jumping out of games every five minutes and really getting into the flow of stuff.

Seems like in D3, you are confined to one act and you have to approach it linearly through the quest line. Is that correct? I haven't done any farming yet, so I'm trying to figure it out.

Yeah, it would be nice if the waypoints let you jump between acts. I agree with you that they are underutilized.

Seems bizarre, really. Waypoints are tied to your currently selected quest progress so you can't just skip ahead and be rushed through that way. But, you can just join a game that's on a future quest (e.g., Level 1 character joins a game on the final quest in Act 4) and you'll be in the game, in that Act, and on that quest regardless of your progress otherwise. So ... huh?

Radiant square is the best that drops in game (like candy too). After that all gems have to be crafted.. yet no one is crafting them because the costs are huge and the stat increase is minimal.

So anything radiant square or lower on the auction house is dirt cheap.

You're so behind the curve that the people in Inferno are now supplying the AH with the highest gem drops pushing down the prices of all the others gems. So no, at this time it is not worth upgrading either the Blacksmith or the Jeweler.

Well that's disappointing. I hadn't even looked at gems yet in the AH. Eh screw it, the completionist in me wants both the smith and the jeweler upgraded fully anyway, so I "have" to do it, even if it's not worth it gold wise. And hell, it's only gold in the damn game, if I need more gold I'll just play more to acquire it.

I do think that I'm going to skip out on MF tho for D3 and focus completely on GF for loot runs, especially when I get to inferno. With gold I can buy what I want from the AH instead of gambling with the random nature of MF to get me what I want.

I've gotten through halfway of act2 NM with my wizard using nothing but random drops, and the TWO items I bought from the auction house (a wand and a source) I used for all of 2 hours before i had random drop rares that were better than both. You do NOT need the auction house, you just need some time and dedication and maybe a little luck

Fuck, the jewels feel the most precious items of all and it's a pain to know they are mere pebbles in the AH.

they also drop like candy... esp the higher up gems.

its not like they are dropping chipped and flawed in NM or hell, where you ahve to craft your way up. no they drop the highest gem to cater to your character. so tehy are everywehre and you dont ahve to graft. i've just drop anythign below flawless, and im sure i wont be picking them up soon either.

For the most part, yeah. It's just when people ask for advice or help, it's a lot easier (and faster) to suggest using the AH rather than telling them to farm somewhere until they're able to progress or to just hope for the best. The AH helps remove that farming/hoping for most the difficulties. Whether that's a problem or not depends on the person, I suppose.

whats crazy is that it's easier to rush a lvl 1 in d3 than ti was in d2 even though it appears they tried to remove that feature.

in d2 you had to atleast clear 1-2 quests and beat the boss. now you can just skip right to the boss.

Nah, I don't think they tried to remove it. There are so many ways to bypass content or get high level friends to help you level through the lower difficulties. It's a shame there's no way to just hop into Nightmare, given how easy Normal is, but at least it's easy to breeze through it relatively quickly with a little help from friends, the checkpoint system and/or the AH.

I agree that gold find is probably the way to go.

It's kind of insane to me that there wasn't some sort of anti-inflation tool in place. In D2 gold was absolutely meaningless, but at least you could gamble to pull some gold from the system. Although, I suppose there is an ad hoc gambling system in place here: Go to vendors, buy all their blues, disenchant, er, salvage them, use the mats to create rares? Maybe?

But the fact that gold drops so readily and there is no tool to remove it from the system is pretty crazy since the whole economy relies on it as currency.

It's sad that the grind to Level 25 for Nightmare access is the long part of getting to Nightmare for rushed characters. Beating Normal takes about 5 minutes, 4 of which is talking, skipping cutscenes, and some travel time.

Level 58 first LEGENDARY DROPPED!

String of Ears

I had that skipped heartbeat that I got all so often in diablo 2. Hopefully blizzard fixes a few of the legendaries/sets so we can have this feeling more often.

Wow, your first legendary and you actually got one of the ones that doesn't suck! Grats!

Yeah, with Dragon's Dogma out and League of Legends always there, I'm done. Gonna wait until they either fix Monks or the stuff on the AH gets really cheap.

Just not fun getting one shotted and I don't feel like farming for days for the possibility of getting better items.

Everything was really fun until Act 2, and I heard it gets way worse. Have fun ya'll.

Ehh, so they severely nerf demon hunters, wizards and monks in one fell swoop and the wizard forums are already ablaze with nerf calls over the critical mass builds people are switching to.

PVP ISN'T EVEN IN THE GAME YET. Why are we nerfing classes over effective PvE builds? The only one that was even remotely close to a bug was the monk quickening+sweeping wind build. Smoke screen and force armor were working exactly how the tooltips said they should, but WE BETTER NERF IT because some other classes haven't put their best builds together yet.

This is the true legacy of WoW. Not the art style or the itemization or Battle.net 2.0, but the stupidity of the players when it comes to things like this.

You're in nightmare... nightmare is a cakewalk. Get to Inferno, or even hell and say that.

Ok, what the fuck. I upgraded to a Collector's edition and need the extra code for another account. I submitted a support ticket two days ago, and even tried calling in but got told the support queues are full." This is ridiculous. Does anyone else have any advice on upgrading to a Collector's Edition?

Edit: A 45 minute wait until my call will be answered. I'm seriously getting pissed off

I kind of agree with them, though, of removing ridiculous "must have" builds so balance can be accurately assessed when the classes are more in tune with each other.

...but this isn't a perfect world.

Quick question; +Damage on weapons, does that mean if I am doing a base damage of 1000 and then get an identical weapon with +25% damage that I will be doing 1250 damage?

What are you trying to do? Are you trying to get a code back for the standard version of the game that has already been tied to your account? Because they won't let you do that.

Yes they will. They have said they would. I did this same thing but have not tried yet to get a pass for my SE.

No, I heard people upgrading to CE and messaging Blizzard about that can get the original code removed so that they can gift it to someone else.

Well shit, my mistake. Sorry folks. I suppose it makes sense that that only applies to the "free" version you got for subscribing to WoW for a year.

I'm using my legendary crown now since forever. Never found anything better in normal and act 3 nightmare thus far.

How come that it always takes ages till people join my game but WHEN they start joining, the come in and out like nothing?? Is there any trick to it? I want to play togehter with oflks but I don't want to wait 30 minutes every time.

Just waited an hour and 11 minutes. They did finally fix my issue though

My barbarian is level 56 and I'm on Act II of hell. I've played for about 70 hours between him and my monk. I have yet to use the auction house and I have yet to feel stuck.

If some of you spent half as much time playing the game as you do bitching about the game, you might have more fun with it. Opening the AH at launch was a dumb idea by them and the game is not perfect, but jesus christ you guys are whiney.
