Question. I haven't really followed the making of Prometheus outside of checking out the trailers. How closely will this tie into Alien? Is it a true prequel or is it a space movie that just takes place within the same movie-verse?

It seems to be a direct prequel leading up to the beginning of Alien from what the trailers have shown.

Wait, what? I'll just wait until the movie is released to check on some thoughts I've had from the trailers. Deff see some scenes/places that was in Alien. I'll refrain from any spoiler specific conversations.

No.

It's not a direct prequel, that came straight from the writer's mouth.

It answers a few questions from Alien but it doesn't lead directly into it.

It's an original film that takes place in the Alien universe.

Contradiction!!!!!

Not there, actually. Dude, it's almost like you missed the point!

Yeah but come on, from what we've seen it's pretty much a prequel. Ridley is probably emphasizing the lack of connection to Alien so people aren't disappointed when they don't see any facehuggers or xenomorphs.
I don't think there's much of a point arguing over that at the moment. We know what the staff said, but there's also the possibility they're trying to surprise people on that front.
Let's just wait for the movie for an actual answer.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with this. Even watching that Verge video with Lindelof it almost sounds more like they are trying to cover their ass in case this movie sucks.

"I was very reluctant to engage in a conversation that would somehow diminish 'Alien'"

"If for some reason 'Prometheus' didn't succeed creatively"

So if it sucks, and the internet rage comes a knockin' they can say "But...it wasn't a prequel!"

I feel like his whole analogy to Star Wars is moot since we are led to believe by the trailers that we'll see how the space jockey ends up in Alien as well. Not to mention 'some of the mysteries of 'Alien' will have some clarity', kinda like how the 'mystery' of Darth Vader was revealed.

But as Erigu said, no point in arguing about it now. We'll see when it comes out.
