DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

I'm playing on some server and people in the chat are saying that a guy with an infinite ammo rpg turned elektro into rubble. I can't confirm it but wtf if true.

Does this game hurt anyone else's eyes? It's got this weird smear effect going on that almost makes it painful for me to play. Difficult to explain, but I haven't experienced it with any other game ever.
Turn off motion blur, post-processing, and head bob. Also make sure your ingame 3D resolution is the same as your interface resoultion.

I think trying to make out stuff in the darkness can easily lead to eyestrain too, so make sure to take breaks and whatnot.

The saddest moment of my DayZ life. I was the only one whom was trying to have somewhat of a clear conscience. Broken and Wedge are usually my back up in this department(as in they won't let there team die, but they won't go out of their way to murder). But WedgeX has abandoned me lately and it seems Broken i.e. Irish is slowly turning to the dark side. Aj2Good has always been an opportunist so his actions are expected.

Here's the story from that video from Beastie's point of view:

Damn...

Messed aboot with the TrackIR some more, questioned a friend who has it and I think I have it how I like it now. I increased the smooth setting to 18 and added a few clicks to pitch/yaw.

I currently don't have anything positive to say about trackir. Maybe I need to keep fiddling with the settings. It's just a bit too awkward to move my head while keeping my eyes focused at the centre of the screen.

I wasn't buying trsckIR for a combat advantage, just to see if it would increase immersion. So far it's kind of doing the opposite to both of those.

I don't regret buying it, on the basis that I was going to buy this fucking thing anyway. But it's a little disappointing so far.

So, I have yet to play this game, but does anyone else think Valve should hire the developers of the mod and create a L4D version of the game?
No. This is such a different experience that i'd not like to see too many similarities. Zombies and guns are the only things in common these games share. I'd like to keep it that way. I love L4D as its pure frantic arcadey goodness. DayZ is something different entirely.

Reverend King was a great man, but all the great men are gone and their world is dead.

I'm what you have left.

I liked your way of thinking in the video, but why didn't you have the balls to walk up and shoot him in the face? C'mon son, be a man!

We were trying to ambush a group of 3, that kid just ran in there, I would have gone outside but my frame rate was down in the low teens for some weird reason.

wow, wow, wow!

Got the PC plugged in last night - simple d/l of DayZ files and stick in the right place (tho I had to guess as it was ArmaX and the guide was for steam) and hey-presto I'm in.

f/r a bit choppy, a quick details down from high to normal (IIRC) meant butter smooth (tho later on when being chased by a dozen zombies this dropped a bit but was playable) on my 'mid-range' PC (Q6600 + HD4980).

Got into a game (night-time) - looked buggy as hell when looking near the ground - upped the HDR to highest setting and it looked great - plays fine altho it is bloody hard to spot zombies and see the detail - but it didn't stop me having a blast. Was chased by some Zs to the top of a hill and popped them all (around 5/6) then found some half-finished block of flats with loads of bits to collect and switched to a day-time server lol.

All-in-all having a blast but still got loads to learn - the inventory system is not overly intuitive (for a non-PC gamer anyway) I need to google a few specific gaps in my knowledge.

I did nice a UK server with a 12hr time-shift so night would be day - but it said I needed some patch to 1.6.blah? But I would have thought it'd be nice to know what the local time is on a server rather than guessing a few (but as a noob I guess that's how it is).

A couple of improvements I'd like to see are the ability to use melee weapons (this is surely a must?) and ability to kick (if you're going to let a Z climb ladders then I'd like to be able to kick their heads as they get to the top lol).

But man this is f'ing great stuff - upgrading my PC was the best money I spent.

fake edit - 2500 ping on the NeoGAF constantaly full server last night lol

Game is too hard for me

So far every game has been the same: wander around aimlessly until I'm killed by zombies. I cant seem to find any weapons, ammo or food. I avoid the big cities because there are too many zombies. Once Im desperate enough to enter the small towns because I have no ammo or food left Im getting killed because I cant defend myself.

The only loot I always find is empty cans, car tyres and windshields.

Also the performance for me got worse after one of the latest updates.

After enabling FXAA Im getting white dots on trees at medium distance. Before I enabled FXAA the grass would be white instead of green.

are you using your stealth techniques?

To those who game with me at night, I haven't been able to play much the last week due to my 2 year old being sick. Ended up taking him to hospital all night (last night) so hopefully when this clears, I will join you regularly again.

Honestly I think people exaggerate the number of zombies in the big cities. I've been killed by zombies in the small towns way more than the big ones. In fact, I rarely get attacked by zeds in the cities because there are so many buildings to hide in. The biggest thing you have to worry about in the cities is bandits. I recommend you go into a city, find a fire station and grab some loot.

(this isn't a counterpost to the one quoted above)

Does anyone find the zombies more tedious than harmful because of their pathfinding? Like, one of two things happen when I trigger a few zombies. The first is that they will just wig out all over the place and I'm barely able to focus on them until they've already started biting into me. The way they run at you and zip around is just so incredibly jarring. The second is that I will run full sprint into a house (this may take up to 2-3 minutes to do, but who cares because zombies can't pathfind to you while you're running so you can just safely sprint through entire cities), turn around, and shoot the zombies one by one because they can only walk while inside.

It's just such a weird thing that these zombies are either incredibly hard or incredibly easy depending on if the game is being exploitative (e.g., server fucking up and spawning within view 20 zombies after you've fired a round) or if you're being exploitative back (taking advantage of the rubbish AI). So far my strategy for entering towns (assuming I have a friend or two with me) is to just shoot into the air, trigger a bunch of zombies, get them all following me and just lead them into a slaughterhouse. Then take my time killing them, and before you know it you have an entire town to yourself for looting. It's not that the zombies are too hard or too easy, they're just kinda... not scary. I guess 100+ hours of an alpha will do that to you. There are occasional moments where a hoard can overwhelm you, such as firing a lee-enfield in a major city. But the smaller towns just don't have anything to them anymore.

Players are still absolute motherfuckers, though. Nothing gets my heart racing like a good old bandit hunt.

it is not the game, it is you

If you are afraid for bandits in the big cities. Install the beta and get into a 10/50 players servers.

I think the firestation is one of the most dangerous places because of military weapon spawn. Afaik it's safer to check one of the numerous corner buildings.

Sure, it's dangerous but if you are cautious you can mitigate the risk. I avoid the fire station if it looks like someone is occupying it. The grocery store near the fire station (in Cherno, I think) has been quite safe for me and I've never encountered any other players.

To those who game with me at night, I haven't been able to play much the last week due to my 2 year old being sick. Ended up taking him to hospital all night (last night) so hopefully when this clears, I will join you regularly again.

Wish him well man, that really sucks. We'll be there for your return, don't worry about it!

Cities are really your best bet when you start out. The loot to zombie ratio is probably more in your favor there than anywhere else.

This infection sounds much worse than the one that plagues DayZ. You worry about the living, we'll take care of dead. We were wondering where you went off to. Hope your 2 y/o feels better soon.

Does anyone know about the vehicle situation? I haven't heard/seen anyone talk about vehicles in quite a while. I've heard there are HIVE issues.

If you're constantly pissing off zombies you are are playing it wrong.

Pffffffft. The only wrong way to play this game is to not play it at all. I find a happy medium between shooting bandits, shooting zombies, shooting warthogs in forests because what the fuck, and playing nature hiking simulator 2012.

Besides, after a hundred hours of sneaking around at night, going full auto on a town full of zombies and blazing your own trail blowing as much ammunition as you loot back? Fucking awesome.

The op was saying every time he went into a town he was swamped by zeds. I think if this is the case then they are playing it wrong. You simply don't find enough ammo to clear out every area you explore. They are making things harder for themselves.

I haven't played since the last update. Does direct communication / direct voice chat work yet?

Yesterday i was on the gaf server and met a survivor. I start to shoot him and when i pulled the trigger, i heard hey. shot him four times and he continued speaking (oh ok i guess you want to kill me, ill go in here to heal myself etc. Felt horrible :P).

Point is i think he was speaking through direct. Unless there is some other way to speak only to a person close enough.

Wish i could remember his nick Meat of something.. that was a cool dude.

I think a disconnect while bleeding should be considered a death. It should just kill the character and when they log into a different server they respawn on the beach. So annoying.

I wonder just what all Rocket has in store for this game. I mean, I really love all the ideas he has mentioned so far with the dogs and swappable apparel that you can find as you are looting around. Still, I think it would be nice to get a glimpse of just how far he plans on taking the concept.
