DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

How much space did Arma II, Arma II OA, and DayZ take up for you guys?
Long story short I'm going to use bootcamp to play this and was just wondering how much space I should allocate besides the 20 or so GB I'm using for the OS itself. I was thinking of creating a 75 or 60GB partition, would either of those be more than enough?

Does anyone know about the vehicle situation? I haven't heard/seen anyone talk about vehicles in quite a while. I've heard there are HIVE issues.

It's a mix of a couple things, server instances not being properly restarted and the devs not getting around to placing vehicle spawns on the new servers yet (apparently they place each spawn on each new server instance manually.)
 
Is there a good site that shows the buttons and how to use the inventory? I could not figure out how to use a bandage, talk to the server, or roll on the ground lol.
 
I think it's some sort of initial prompt where you pick male or female then you're stuck with that. Probably to weed out some of the female pretenders, even though lack of new skins will do that anyway.

I'm sticking with a guy but I'm sure there will be plenty of complainers.
 
Those findable skins... when you die you go back to the defualt skin.

Now i'm wondering, can one kill someone else for their skin? If so, it's gonna be fucking carnage.

Rocket is adding findable skins in the same update. Here he discusses them.

And I don't think I like that you'll lose them on respawn. I'm sure there will be envious survivors that decide the best place to find a new look is on the back of someone else. It'll make skinned characters bigger targets. Also, bandit transition is removed with the same update, obviously.

I'm confused. Bandit indication is going to be removed? Every kill will be a Murder from now on, then? Because if I kill someone and he happens to be a bandit, it's none of my accomplishment if I cannot tell anyway

To my understanding, theres still some humanity tracking behind the scenes. Maybe it still counts as a bandit kill if the target's is <0, I dunno.

Yeah, no one can tell by a skin if that person is good or bad anymore. Just assume everyone is a bandit and kill everyone, conscience clear and steal their skins afterwards. Also what neverfade said, he's right, there will still be humanity tracking behind the scenes that will be used for a different/better system down the line.

Well yeah but as I said (maybe I should have made myself more clear) that would make no sense because you did not kill a guy who was known to you as being a bandit, you killed a random guy who just happened to be a bandit, but it makes no difference to what you did because you didn't know.

Yeah, I hope that's true... what you said at the end. A better system would be nice. No system at all would be sad because it was a solid part of the experience (decisions between killing and not killing because it has consequences; maybe the consequences should be a bit worse, I think it was too easy for some people to live as a bandit)

Mechanically it may be more awkward but thematically it definitely makes more sense. You shouldn't know at 300m through a scope that someone's a PKer because he's wearing urban camo.

That being said, I don't think this is the most elegant solution. The game is already 'shoot first, ask questions later' enough as is. Now everyone's just going to be super trigger happy. Most of the best moments I've had is when survivors come together and work as a team to overcome odds.
 
So GAF, I've never really played Arma II past the Free version and I liked what I've played. I was interested in picking up Combined Operations but I read this way to play only with Operation Arrowhead and Arma II Free: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums//showthread.php?t=2717901

Is there any possibility that this will break soon? Because it'd allow me to purchase two copies of OA to play with my brother for $10 more than the same price to buy Combined Operations alone. Should I just play it on the safe side and buy Combined Operations instead?
 
How do you use that thing? It was so fucking loud and impossible to use at anything but very-long range.

The CZ is a PvP weapon. I use my Makarov for all of my up close stuff. The CZ has a higher zoom than the binocs, so I use it to track people and if someone is coming near me I can defend myself from a distance that leaves me room to run.

Read the OP, the best way to play this IS WITH Combined Opearations. It wiill require some extra effort to make it work with ARMA II Free.

Safe side means you wait for ArmA 3 to come out because there is a possibility that the mod will one day move there completely.

I say in your situation buy free+OA twice and you can always add two ArmA2's if necessary (no indication that it will be though)

Cool, I'm going to do that though.

I thought that there was more of a possibility of the mod moving entirely to be standalone in ArmA 3's engine though than being an ArmA 3 mod?

I don't understand what you mean "is at 14 days...". Has your character survived for fourteen days? And how dare you say the CZ is a PvP weapon when you have accumulated a total of 3 PvP kills during two weeks of surviving. I am confused. I must have misunderstood you.

I thought you used the CZ mostly to aggro Zeds? At least that's the only thing I've ever seen you do with it. :P

I dont like that player bodies are being deleted so fast. It changes the dynamics to something more stale and worse forcing players to either kill other players or to go focus on loot locations more.

1. It makes life much easier for "bandits", no sign of their deed after 15 minutes which gives no warning to anyone entering the area.
2. No happy surprises for survivors coming onto more unfortunate survivors and making use of their gear.
3. The feeling of carnage and apocalypse will be less if there are no dead survivors around and will lower the immersion of the game.

So about the skins, has he outlined which ones will be used? There are loads of options if you have the DLC etc, are the characters available in the editor (Security Consultant, etc) what will be used as skins for example. I'm not quite sure what the deal is with the skins...

14 actual days survived. Doesn't mean I was logged in, but 14 days have passed since he was created.

It is best used for PvP because of how loud it is. The best way to survive is to avoid people. Having a weapon that puts as much distance between you and someone else is ideal for that. You're using the logic that if you have a PvP gun you have to PvP. Flawed logic and that's why everyone dies so fast. That and I try to avoid hanging with the GAF group.
 
Why is everyone in the gaf server so nasty.

Haven't met a single friendly all night.

From what I've gathered, GAF people are not nice to other people on the GAF server unless you're on Mumble.

And even when they shout orders at you on the Mumble server and you comply, you still get shot apparently.

Edit: Still, it's much cooler to hang out with lots of people than to go at it alone. I hope I can do it again! :D

Heh, you're funny, Drizzle. Everybody orders everyone else around, but there is never a real need to comply. Oh, and everyone always ends up dying anyway. :P
