I might see this film on premiere, but I have never seen a 3d film before. Do they offer some cheap glasses at the cinema or something when you are attending it? This is the only film I am willing to spent 20 dollars on to see on premiere. (Norwegian citizen)

In germany they give you 3D glasses for 1€ at the theater. I have already two laying around so i don't need to buy them again.
Avangers in 3D was rather good (from technical perspective). Always felt that other 3D films i saw were not so sharp but Avengers and Avatar where both really sharp.

If i could choose i would always choose the 2D version (paying 14€ for a movie is ridiculous) but they showed Avengers only in 3D in Berlin :(

I don't want to read the thread in order to avoid spoilers so can somebody tell me in brief: is it good? and how does it hold up to Alien?

edit: fuck, it's not out

What are the chances Prometheus and Blade Runner sequel will make Cameron think about coming back to hardcore sci-fi. I'm okay with Avatar but I miss old Cameron =(

He said he was only making avatar film from now on. So forget about it. Avatar's his cash cow. Even though I can't stand the franchise, I totally understand the idea of doing more avatar films.

He did say it but I really bet that the next few years of shooting Avatar sequels will tire him somewhat on the subject. Also he'll realize that his career would be ridiculous if he just only did Avatars from now on.

And maybe he was kidding?

Damn, do I love that scene. Someone gif it!
Wasn't a huge fan of Aliens, but that was an awesome shot.

Badass... but it also makes the aliens look all soft and rubbery.

Yeah a little. But this movie is still a pretty amazing testament to practical effects. If you ever watch the making of, they explain that everything (except for a few miniature shots) was shot directly on film with no green screen, composting effects or after effects clean up.

Instead of using green screen, Cameron actually used rear projection so the actors could see what was going on behind them (he later re-used this effect in T2-3D the ride). Also, they never did go back and remove any of the puppet rods or strings after filming. That was all hidden during filming. Everything was filmed exactly how you saw it.

The Power Lifter vs Queen sequence was quite a special effects feat.

Anyone know if the change to R rating made Scott add in stuff that was previously cut? I don't want to wait months for directors cut -_-

Give us impressions of what the film is like but no spoilers for us poor/late goers. :)

I can't wait. Going on the 8th.

Ugh, I had no idea that this was going to be a 100% 3D affair. No 2D showings at all? That kind of kills a bit of buzz that I had to see this film in cinemas. I was really hoping for a 2D showing.

Yeah, I will probably still end up seeing it anyway...

There will be 2D showings but it was filmed in 3D.

He shut down his production company for new scripts, etc. Seems to be pretty serious.

Thats good to hear that you can reuse them for another time. Yeah I would prefer if they would show a 2d version at the premiere, but I am willing to give 3d a chance since its made that way. I have heard that 3d films are very dark, so in 2d mode they still have the same darkness without the depth. So I think now is a time to give it a chance. I agree the price they are asking for it is ridiculous, but i never go to the cinema normally so I will accept it for this time being.

Have my tickets fro Thursday the 31st at 2100 CET at the Colosseum in Oslo. First showing with red carpet and everything, cant wait so see some c-list Norwegian celebs :)

largest THX cinema in the world, hope/sure the sound/sound track will be amazing for the film so cant frikken wait!

I will be trying to go there too. Not that I care for the celebs, but it is a nice cinema. I might pick a later day as most of the convenient seats are taken.

Dude this is Ridley Scott doing Sci-Fi in 3D. It will be good.

Isn't the new Spider-Man movie going to be getting the same treatment? I saw posters that said "ONLY IN 3D" or something. But people have enjoyed the brief 3D they've seen in trailers for both, so it'll be fine.

It was filmed in 3D but will have 2D showings. Pretty much all films that are filmed in 3D still have 2D showings.

Really don't get the Alien 4 hate. It's better than Cameron's to me, but Euro and US critics can't seem to agree on it. Or maybe it's just the french, which would explain everything.

Or maybe that's why we get Prometheus before everyone :O

This is a new opinion on my radar! What an age we live in.

Anyway I think Cameron should intercut his Avatar films with movies about big ship disasters.

Like maybe Titanic - Avatar - Avatar 2,3 - The Sinking of the USS Maine - Bismark - Avatar 4,5,6?

Woah, so the viral ARG site says to use IE for its "speed" and performance advantages?

Is this part of the alternate reality?
