I've only recently gotten back into lego due to the supheroes theme. As a huge batman fan, I was totally saddened over missing out on the first batman sets. Is it worth paying the silly prices for some older sets or is there a chance there will be more batman sets with Mr. Freeze, Penguin, etc in the future?

I don't know but I'm now imagining an iceberg lounge lego set and salivating.

edit: jeez i wish the sets were more diverse and also directly comics based. gotham police station, court of owls' labyrinth, Wayne tower, something with poison ivy taking over a building and making it a mini jungle, an old west gotham set with jonah hex, a Two-Face set that doesn't look like crap, a return of bruce wayne minifigure set, damian's punk-ass lil' face on a child minifigure, a ridiculous zur-en-arh batman minifigure, the club of heroes/batman inc casts (especially man of bats and BATWING), nanda parbat, killer croc in the sewers, something with oracle and the BoP because the new batgirl with her miracle recovery sucks...

guest appearances by other people like batwoman, constantine, zatanna, andrew bennet

hell they've never been to gotham that i've read, but throw in animal man and swamp thing just because. This is the superheroes line, not the "batman and also one superman set" line, dang it. The interpretations of the greek gods in the new wonder woman would also be cool to see. Or lego could just do a mythology line of original sets.....

Or Darkseid and the new gods...... Why am I such a nerd my imagination it pains me

Do most Walmart stores in the USA have Monster Fighters and LOTR sets now?

Target still does not and it's annoying.

I don't think Target has these yet and it definitely is annoying. As much as I love Target they are always the last ones to stock and horrible and restocking toy shelves.

those of you looking at stands for planes and x-wings etc, check out this lego web tip -

http://creator.lego.com/en-GB/designers/BuildingTips/Extra_403760.aspx#Vehicles_403725

simple but pretty effective. You could experiment with different angled technic pieces to adjust the angle of the model.

the other ones I liked were Jamie showing how to make columns.

this one - link - shows columns similar to the Town Hall

this one - link - shows rounder columns

Awesome. Think I will be sitting here a while watching all of these.

Love this forest one, just for the ending.

Yes, seriously annoying.

My wife bought me a Lego Captain America ultra build set over the weekend, but it's really not my style. So I returned it to target, saw nothing I wanted, and ended up with the current 4x4 Fire Truck (#4208). But I think I'll just hold on to it in hopes of my Target finally stocking the LotR & Monster Fighter sets. Looking for either the Shelbob or Werewolf sets.

In other Lego shopping news, I finally managed to track down the Sonic Boom (#5892) at MSRP with $11.00 shipping. Hopefully it arrives next week from www.bigbadtoystore.com, it looks like it was the last one they had in stock.

I thought I was doing OK at the custom thing until tonight when I saw this guy's stuff...

Haha, I love it! =D

That may be old hat to some, but that is a seriously awesome building technique. I only have a couple of the wider based ones, which sadly are in the middle of other sets I dont want to take apart, but that is a seriously badass technique.

Haha - yeah, these videos are really awesome. I love that Lego as a whole gives us tips and tricks about how to build and such. So neat!

Due to the overwhelming feedback I've got a couple more custom minifigs for feedback, first is my joker with my torso design photoshopped over the top to see how it looks, anyone got any suggestions for improvements?

And second is my venkman with my face design photoshopped over the top, thoughts?

venkmantest.jpg

I like this expression on Venkman better than your normal one.

Would have expected a more in-depth review from Eurobricks. Hopefully someone else takes a better look at it after the official release.

I imagine someone will. He was given a set to build for a display at the store, so I imagine that's why he even did it. There is almost guaranteed to be a nicer/more in depth one this weekend!

What's amazing to me is that he says that's what the bricks are for - I figured they were just for window ledges etc. that's definitely something i'll look to build into a house sometime

I suddenly want to MOC a house filled with sliding doors and walls. I know I have at least one of those pieces somewhere in my collection, but one is not enough.

I actually came across that part of the Lego website looking for tips on sliding doors. Shame I don't have those pieces.

You sound surprised that people go ape shit crazy for Lego sales. ;) At 20% retail, I'd also pick up a bunch of sets I was on the fence for!

Absolutely surprised, as there's almost always a line of Lego on sale for 20% off every week.

And Zellers doesn't carry anything unique that might otherwise escape sales - no Technic, none of the architecture series, very little Creator. It's mostly Cars, City, small Star Wars sets, and crappy Bionicle stuff.

First pics of Palpatine's Arrest set. It looks like it will have a ton of Jedis.

Been trying to post this all morning but couldn't get on GAF... they've finally revealed this set, and apparently it is already available in Germany!

I've been looking forward to this one for a LONG time, and it does not dissapoint. Non-CW faces!!

Ok, so I'm finally at my parents house (where I had my imperial shuttle delivered because of the lack of space in my appartment) and look what Lego sent me:

Thank you lego, it was worth the wait. No R2 poster to be seen, but I'll gladly sacrifice that for two extra tc-14's.

Now HERE is a prequel set that I *WILL* own. Just awesome. I want them to release a new set with Yoda, hopefully with a new head sculpt. The old one is terrible, and they clearly won't be using the clone wars one (even though it's a lot better)

It reminds me of the old Cloud City set, just on a smaller scale. Imagine a carbonite chamber on this scale!

I'm hoping for a Dagobah set to finally get a new non-CW Yoda, but this set is a great start in finally moving away from those hideous faces.

Finally, we can re-create "UNLIMITED POWWWAAHHHH!"

I just checked the S@H Pick a Brick selection. They currently have these for the thin panels in a few colors. (Also some in 1x2) But not the wide ones to slide bricks on. Unless I am not looking hard enough.

Edit: Design ID 4510. Forgot that the PaB part of the site sucks.

Wow, nice! Lots of bonus minifigs! :)

Just got back into Lego since I sucked at them as a kid and the Marvel stuff called to me.

Is Lego.com the best place to buy from online? Seems they have a lot of freebies.

Yes...and no.

If you're a VIP member (which is free, so you should be), you build points for $5 off purchases (every 100 points = $5 off). Since it IS directly from Lego, you're getting the MSRP on all sets. You don't have to deal with the TRU markup, so that's a plus.

A lot of stores offer random 5-20% sales all the time, it's just a matter of finding them. More often than not, they're not advertised. You just have to look for them via internet or word of mouth.

Amazon is almost always offering little discounts on sets. Again, it's just a matter of grabbing them before others do.

My suggestion is to go with Lego S@H. Random bonuses are always nice, and when they do free shipping, it's simply fantastic. Double VIP points is also a superb purchase time. I'd say Lego.com or Amazon really. :)

I made my first online order last Thursday for the Hulk minifig and LODR poster. S&H plus tax makes it pricey, but still better than TRU. If the sets come this week, I'll be very happy with the service.

Awesome! Well, I'm crossing my fingers that they packaged an extra Hulk in my order... buuut I won't be upset if they don't :) Can't wait to open my funhouse and orc forge :)

Any idea what licensing is like for Spider-Man? I know with the games, they're spread all over, but I imagine if they're finally doing Marvel Lego stuff then we should see a Spider-Man set closer to the movie's release?

I am really liking this Joker... maybe some "laugh lines" on the face to give it a bit more detail? It's looking great!

LEGO doesn't have the movie license... the set(s) they are doing are based on the new "Ultimate Spider-Man" cartoon.

That Palpatine set is ugly! No thanks. I am glad to finally see it though, because I've been curious.

What do you call sets like that, sets that are just scenes and like, separately parsed half-structures? Sets like Hulk's Helicarrier or Echo Base? I am not a big fan of those but the LOTR sets are almost all like that and I'll probably end up getting them!

I've just heard them called "playsets". I'm quite fond of them (as you may be able to tell), when they do it right, such as Cloud City:

I think the Palpatine set will be another winner, unlike the Hoth set from last year. The Home One set was... okay. Endor was pretty cool, and the Death Star is in a class by itself.

Yeah, I didn't even think of the possibility, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I just built the small tie-fighter, that was also a fun (albeit really short) build. Every set I buy confirms that Lego isn't just back, it's way better.
That terrible period of 3 block Harry Potter castles is over and even the best of the old sets (90's-ish) don't compare to some of the UCS sets.

I guess I'll start building the Shuttle tomorrow though, it's 20:45 (8:45 PM, you silly Americans) here, and I've only got my floor to build it on. I don't want to step on a lego when I go to the bathroom.

And keep in mind that the Imperial Shuttle bags are NOT numbered, so it is all in when you open it up. No building in stages like many other sets. Plan accordingly.

wow, how much is this thing

The Lego Store in Frankfurt has it for €89,99. Saw it today when I picked up the new Skiff (€29,99) for myself, some presents and the free Hulk minifig.

IMO "Palpatine's Arrest" is horribly overpriced. I can't believe it costs 20 bucks more than my beloved Avengers Quinjet!

I'm used to that ;). My imperial flagship wasn't numbered either, but my trusty old floor was such a good place to build it that I didn't even have to sort it (although it's about a 1000 bricks smaller than the shuttle). The Volkswagen camper van and space shuttle didn't have any numbers either, and I sorted those on colour (something people here seem to discourage / sorting was needed because I built them on a really (really) small desk).

I am looking forward to the shuttle though. I wonder how long such a big set, without numbering, will take me.

Anything Star Wars is usually overpriced. Those cheap little figures, the dvds, etc. The most expensive LOTR set isn't anywhere close to the more expensive Star Wars stuff.

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=30586&in=S shows what sets have it in

Lots in the modulars.

Ah. I scrolled through all of them, price checking as I went. If you don't mind them being red, the Fire Temple looks like the set to get with 12 of them! That's like... $10 per piece. Then all those other bricks and minifigs that come free with them! It is truly a steal.

Side note, the Fire Temple is one of the few Ninjago sets that I would be interested in having. So this is an interesting development/dilemma.

Looking at the new Spider-Man figure makes me seriously aware of the technical limitations Lego seems to have with detailing minifigures. He looks really weird without the red boots, but apparently just printing a different color on the bottoms of legs isn't doable.

Captain America looks off to me too, because I guess they can't print on the sides of heads and he doesn't have the wings as a result. This kind of stuff really stands out with the superheroes.
