How aboot yer debit card, eh?

I could. Maybe. I need to save money for a trip at the end of June. My wife and I are flying to Florida to get her grandparents car then driving it all the way back to CT. Sadly, I planned on stopping by a Lego store on the way back to get something. But if I get free shipping and double VIP, I might bite and be broke again. Urgh.

Any leaks to the USA calendar for promos? I just ordered Grand Emporium to get the Hulk fig. Any more awesome exclusives in June besides the rumored Chrome Iron Man?

Haha fuck you Lego.

Fire Brigade it is, then. The Sopwith would be a much cooler display item but man I'm not paying that much for it.

Oh wait I just noticed the Fire Brigade is only $150US but $200CDN. Man this sucks.

Still get it. At that price it is still less than $.10 a brick. And when you do, and to anyone that is jumping into modulars now with the Fire Brigade, I really want to read impressions. That set blew me away, and I wonder what kind of experience many others have with it.

Amazon delivered today! =)

Just got the Summer Catalogue in the mail today (Canada). I've been waiting for either double VIP points or free shipping to order Helm's Deep and Uruk-Hai Army. As it turns out, for 2 weeks starting on June 1st, if you buy the two together, you get double VIP points. In addition, any purchases over $75 gets you free shipping AND the mini-Sopwith. Going to order this first thing on Friday along with Gandalf Arrives. Can't pass up double VIP points AND free shipping AND free swag!
SO TEMPTING! (Especially since I've just started down the dark road of LotR sets.)

Well, 3 1/2 hours after starting the 2nd floor of the Fire Brigade, I am calling it a night. Still have part of the roof to finish, but the kids will do that tomorrow.

Mind blown on: fridge, brickwork (holy shit! So simple but yet so cool!), and (pain-in-the-ass) 1932 sign.

Best design so far. My kids did some if it, and loves it. Now, they need their own modular.

Thanks for the recommendation, everyone!!

Second floor of Fire Brigade continues to blow minds. So glad to hear. Dat brick texture.

And if there is one thing I both loved and hated about the set it is the 1932 part. It is a big "HOLY SHIT!" moment when you realize what you are doing, but it is hard to get it to fit into the space once done. The numbering part of Town Hall is leagues better then Fire Brigade. So simple, yet so effective. That is one of the many little things that makes the roof of Town Hall the best modular roof so far.

I'd hate to see what happens if you modular pushers used your powers for evil.

Throwing stuff on eBay tonight to afford the Fire Brigade. I'd like to order from Lego, but with shipping & tax the total will be $175. Or I could order from Amazon for $150, no tax and my free two day prime shipping. Hmm... guess I'll see what I end up making on eBay.

Wow. So quite a few of us are gonna be building the Fire Brigade soon, huh? I probably won't start building mine for a few more days.

I anxiously await to read impressions from you all. It is the set that started me down the path to the Dark Side.

Wow, if that Double VIP/Free Shipping promotion on Helms Deep and Uruk-Hai Army applies in the USA as well, I'll have to put off saving for the Imperial Flagship. :\ That's too good of a deal to pass up. The Imperial Flagship will be my Post-LotR/Pre-Hobbit big purchase.

Fire Brigade is the only modular I've done so far, but I enjoyed it.

I admit that when we went into the Lego Store the other day I was eyeing GE and Pet Shop pretty hard because of it, though. lol

The circle is now complete...

And I had another boring night after working on a MOC for a bit:

lol, great pics phonciple :D

ok guys and gals, phase 1 one of my first modular moc is progressing well :)
so I wanna share that with you of course :)

you will undoubtedly recognize some of the stuff from other sets, well I have to work with what I have ;p

Ok LegoGAF, I'm asking for an opinion.

http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Motorized-Excavator-8043?s=4640063

Or

http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Mercedes-Benz-Unimog-U-400-8110?s=4611588

I know there's not a lot of Technic folks, but for those that may have some interest, which do you suggest?

I love my 8043. It also has a really cool 'B' model. It just has so many remote functions all driving through an insane turntable you build.

The Unimog is more recent so it'll be out for a while. It gets lots of praise and you can (in theory) attach your own technic creations to the front and rear power points (like in a real unimog) but thats mainly for advanced technic builders. Its also pneumatic with an electric compressor which is kind of cool.

But personally the 8043 is the one I'd go for.

My orders from Lego.com finally arrived at the us mail redirect address today. Felt butt hurt when the shipping price for the $300 worth of Lego came to $220 postage. Seems a lot until you consider that all those sets bought at Australian RRP would cone to $740.

I think I need to rethinking my set purchases from here on in, I'm thinking I'll stick to modulars and just buying individual mini figs that I want from brick link. I'm sick of buying shit sets (batman, avengers) when all I really wanted was the mini figs.

The Pet Shop is definitely the weakest modular out of the 4 still available but it's still worth owning.

I think its perhaps the most 'normal', it isn't grand architecture, but I like it for that.

I actually prefer it over Fire Brigade and Town Hall (visually that is)

I think so too. Fire Brigade was a more fun build but I prefer the look of the pet shop. It really does need two brownstones to sit next to each other though..

Pet Shop is the last in print modular I need, but looking through the manual online I see one thing that elevates it: you build a toilet.

and such a great toilet :)

Anyone here play LEGO Universe before they shut it down?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhtSX_34fUA

I never did, but it looks like it has so much potential! Why would they abandon it so fast? It looks really cool.

Don't get me started! It had so much potential, and yet was very broken in soooo many ways. The chat was unusable, the racing game was totally broken, kill-stealing was rampant. Lego is a hobby that promotes collection, but for 90% of it's lifetime there was no bank storage. So every time your inventory filled up you had to decide what to ditch in order to accept new rewards. Terrible.

I never understood why thy didn't use more themes. They put Ninjago in at the end, but it was too late. But there are so many cool Lego owned themes they could have used to mix up the gameplay. Power Miners, Agents, Atlantis? And why no physical sets for the ingame stuff? Maybe the devs were budget constrained, but the whole thing felt very halfhearted. A real shame, as it was a pretty good basic start for what could have been an amazing game.

Also I think that charging for the boxed copy AND the monthly sub really killed them in what was ostensibly a game for kids.

Don't get me started!
All very sad :( The idea of a LEGO MMO is so very appealing to me. The building mode looked pretty cool, though probably not as fast as it could be. In my imagination, the ideal way to execute it in a videogame would be something in-between what we have in LDraw/Bricksmith and Little Big Planet's building mode. And/or Minecraft, but that's a little too obvious :) The building mode has to be really, really strong since that is the core of what LEGO is, IMO. Maybe someday they'll try again.

Anyway, I got my lego.com order of Funhouse and Orc Factory w/ free Hulk Minifig. I chose those two sets due to their rarity, plus I love both themes. The funhouse is an extremely solid set that comes with a great selection of minifigs. Joker, Harley and Riddler along with batman and robin ALL IN ONE SET!? It's pretty awesome.

Just for fun i ordered 2 series 6 minifigs and 2 series 7 minifigs along with my order since I never can find them around here in stores. I got a Leprechaun, Intergalactic Girl and TWO Viking Women T__T The luck of the draw sure is crap.

All these Hulk photos, man, I need to get something done with mine!

Does anyone know if there'll be a similar LOTR minifig promotion? A Gandalf the White could be awesome.

There are a lot of set opportunities for Gandalf the White to appear in, so probably not him if they did one. I could see them doing an alternate Gollum as Smeagol, but that wouldn't be terribly exciting either. I think they should do a Marvel figure now that they have the rights. Tons of possibility there.

I opted to go with the 8043. It makes sense to me to get the PF since that's what interests me about Technic as a whole. The U400 with pneumatics looks awesome, but given that it should be around for a while AND that I've gotten 4 or 5 suggestions for the 8043 over the U400, I sort of had my mind made up for me!

I enjoyed building the toilet for my Pet Shop Townhouse.

And the kitchenette above the Shop! And... everything!

Gah. Need to look into cleaning up a bit, maybe sell a thing or two, and then get more Lego? That sounds terrible. And I don't care. Mwahaha.

I think it's still a great set, just not as good as the others. It doesn't have the stand out features of the others and the fact it's two small buildings joined together makes it less impressive overall. I would rather it be one modular apartment building instead.

I was about to buy the Attack on Weathertop because it was 16% off in Amazon when it came back to the regular price again

maybe it is a sign to just buy another modular??

I'll never forget the day I got the batcave for $50 on amazon, new :P You can get some great deals if you are fast sometimes. You guys need to stop talking up the modulars before I cave. I already have to stash back money for the spidey set, a couple SW sets and fuck all know what else. And I just impulse bought a Pirates set (Fountain of Youth) so I could get a Jack Sparrow minifig

I really do want to get Helm's Deep (and maybe it's expansion piece) at some point. Hoping to catch it on sale.

Based on their history they tend to take an existing mould\minifig and do a different colour or print. Gandalf the White could be a possibility as it wouldn't require any new pieces

lol one time, Helm's Deep was 10% in Amazon, and I was just waiting for it to drop further, but the next day , it went back to 3rd party prices

Yeah, I understand that, but wouldn't it make more sense to include Gandalf the White in an actual set since he appears very frequently throughout the 2nd and third books/films? He's in a lot of pivotal scenes that they could adapt.

Will they announce a new exclusive minifig shortly after the Hulk offer ends, like with TC14? (sorry I'm new to this scene :p), if so the timing suggests to me it could be Monsters related
Should I buy the sopwith camel day one or wait for the amazon price drop
Eh? It'll be on amazon? If so that's what I'd do :P even if it's only 10% off, if you are patient and check a couple times per day you should catch it discounted eventually. Unless you are hardcore about getting freebies off lego.com or in their stores, amazon is easily the best shopping choice, doubly so if you are a prime member. I love it

Still mildly bitter that Gandalf does not have a custom staff. The White would require a different custom mould too. So I guess I'll get over it.

The fluctuating Amazon prices make me want to price check all the sets I might want to get "at some point in the future", all the time. Just in case one of them dips really low. Even if I wasn't planning on buying anything soon.

I live in Delaware no taxes ever muhahaha, I'll just pick it up tomorrow.

I also took apart the minecraft set and just made my own thing. Much more enjoyable vs the instructions given.

yup, wasn't planning on getting Quinjet but for several hours it was 20% off , I had to buy it lol

With all the hype about the modulars I started looking online at the fire brigade, but ended up buying the grand emporium as I was able to get it for about $165 Canadian. Is it weird that I want these sets mostly as backdrops for my batman lego?
