E3 rumor regarding PlayStation Plus

I doubt it. Don't they want more people to subscribe? Why would they alienate potential customers by giving exclusive rewards to existing subscribers?

I don't think this is supposed to be an exclusive reward for existing subscribers. I think this is a case of existing subscribers possibly just getting a better deal than people who sign up next week.

So people whose job is to sell PS+ are saying we should buy PS+? Damn, where do I sign?!

Seriously, I think it's a decent service but I'm not currently a member. I'll happily reconsider it after Monday's announcements. They may reward current members at the expense of future ones, but I don't think those rewards will be so great that it's worth blind buying now. Just seems like typical GAF hype to be honest.

Normally I would agree.

But it is E3 time, the most magical time of the year.

$17 is a small price to pay to be part of it.

Was finally going to give in, but PSN will not allow me to add funds to my wallet. I just bought a couple of PSP games earlier in the week, my credit card info is fine.. Jesus, Sony.

If my son has a separate account so he doesn't mess my passages up, does that mean he wouldn't get cloud saves etc if I bought a psn plus account? But he'd still be able to play games I download as normal right?

Yes, you're correct.

So, do I have to buy it before E3 to get this 'super awesomeness'?

Doesn't seem so, according to these tweets. Maybe there will be a price increase about which he isn't allowed to talk, I don't know.

I subscribe for 3 month. Let's hope it's not going to dissapoint me.

I don't think buying into the hype (literally in this sense) is wise. At the end of the day, we're still going on a single Tweet -- and even that's getting taking out of context a little.

If you wanted PlayStation Plus anyway, then it makes sense to buy now. (I personally think it's a fantastic service.) But if you're buying based on hype -- that's dangerous territory. Inevitable backlash incoming, I suppose.

Just bought it. When I won't be able to play E3 demo's and plus-members will, I'll go mental.
So I took the jump. If we can't play the E3 demo's , so be it. Maybe they got some other stuff in mind that it's worth it.

My prediction is one that one of these things is going to happen.

1) Sony announces their streaming games service, and says that all PS+ subscribers prior to the conference are going to be able to participate a 2 week beta that begins now.

2) They announce that a handful of E3 demos for big upcoming games are downloadable now on the PSN, only for current PS+ members.

3) They announce some sort of "customer appreciation" gift, for current subscribers where they get a choice of a free game from a selection. This might be much better than your typical free games selection.

Again, this is just based on that one tweet. So if nothing like this happens, that guy is just a deceptive dickhead.

They warned people to get it before e3.

If it was something awesome for the same price they probably would not have phrased it exactly that way, instead saying hey, we got something awesome on Monday, come see what you're missing and get in on it!

Might not necessarily be a price change, could just be a PS+ ambassador program where you get some free stuff if you were a PS+ member before Monday.

Although I think the price changing stuff is more likely.

Nah it's okay I've been thinking of trying it for quite sometime anyway.

I sure hope this isn't the case. E3 is promotion and demos are promotion, even if in this case they might be early ones. I think it'd look pretty bad if they'd lock previews of such a notable event behind a subscription fee.

I wouldn't call that guy deceptive, this is all normal GAF taking one tweet and blowing it up to solar system sized proportions. All the guy said was hey everyone get PSPlus for E3 if only for 3 months. Thats PR speak for they are going to announce something cool but I think its wrong to try and construe that single tweet as something amazing ONLY for current subscribers. Don't even know how they would work something like that except for reading specific time cutoffs on your subscription or removing PS plus for purchase from PSN store, none of which sounds plausible.

People seem to be indifferent about the fact that Microsoft regularly restricts demos to Gold members. I don't see why it'd be too different here.

Microsoft restricting demos was and still is a dick move, given I rarely find that I have Xbox Live for more than a month or two at a time.

Just one question about plus.

If I start the download on the game, ut don't fully download it, I can redownload it any time during my subscription?

Right now I have no space/no interest in Awesomenauts. But thats because I have so much on my plate right now. If I start the download, can I download it and play it a few months from now?

Because it was only $18 I signed up (I wanted to play trine 2 anyways), I also saw the message that it puts on autorenew even though I originally turned that off.

If I go back on the site and return it off am I fine or is this gonna be like LIVE where I need to threaten lives to have my card removed in order to make sure it doesn't renew?

I agree it's a dick move but not a lot of people seem to care one way or the other

Yes, so long as it is in your download history you can download it later.

It's just a simple switch it off deal, no hassle. You can do it from your PS3 I think.

When I shut off auto renew during the whole PSN downtime fiasco it shut off instantly and remained off until I turned it back on, so hopefully it works smoothly for you too.

As long as it's in your download list/fistory and you still have a subscription (due to it being a PS+ free game) you can download it as much times as you want. So you have to at least run the download once so the game can be added to your download list/history.

Yes you can essentially "tag" games to save them for later. I did that with every PS1 game that came out since I've had plus, thinking I'd play them on my Vita (silly me).

Honestly it's kind of dumb, any content that comes out for free while you have a PS+ account should automatically stay active as long as your account does, even if you don't get around to it for a while.

That's what I've been doing.
Some games I have absolutely no interest in, but if some of my friends do I'll have them on the list just in case.

You can turn off the auto renew right on your PS3. I believe it's under account management. Sony doesn't create nearly as many hoops to jump through as Microsoft.

Yes you dont need to fully download it. I believe you dont even have to start the download. To be safe you could check if the little red "bought" symbol shows up in the store or check your download list....
Yeah, you just need the red bag.

I had been thinking about getting Plus because of this and I just bit. I had been meaning to renew my subscription for ages anyway because the service is great. I'm hoping for some kick ass Vita stuff though, I don't play much of my PS3 anymore.

Do you get your old games from before the running out of the subscription back?

Like if I had PS Plus until December and had all the offers before hand, and just renewed today. Would I get these games back?

I haven't checked since signing up again but I would assume so since they are still in my download list and last time I checked it just said I needed an active Plus subscription to download it.

Edit: Just confirmed that it does. It bumped everything that I have ever downloaded through Plus to the top of my list so they could be downloaded again.

How do I sign up for Plus? I don't have a PS3, only a Vita. And when I go on Sony's website, all I see is a link to BestBuy for a 3 month code. Isn't there a subscription page on Sony's website?

For how long has your Plus subscription ran out?

You just buy the 3 month code, redeem it and the PSN account that was used to redeem it will be activated with PS+. If you ever updated to Xbox live Gold, its similar (get code, redeem, account is now Gold).

IIRC right now Vita doesn't get the PS+ goodies and they aren't shown on its version of the store (i'm not sure if you can redeem/activate it on the vita store but you can still activate PS+ thru the web version of PSN account management) but the story going around is that a revamped PS+ will be shown and it will support Vita stuff.

So since you only have a Vita i would say to wait and see tbh (although there might be a price increase :/).

My subscription expired a few weeks ago. I like Plus, but wouldn't have renewed immediately. This rumor, which has been around for a few days, made me get another 3 months though.

I'm not sure if it makes sense from a marketing perspective to reward existing members while you could use the same stuff as incentives to get new subscribers. It's not as if current members would feel neglected. They're not missing out on anything.

Edit:
They won't announce a price increase at E3 without adding another Plus tier or increasing the value dramatically - much of the press is already ignoring or dismissing PS Plus because they think it's irrelevant. Early on many journalists even made it sound like it was a bad deal, when it never was. Why give those people more ammunition? If you need to increase your price when you can't back it up with value that is unquestionable, you do it on your company blog - but not on the biggest stage there is for video game news.

I think I may renew then. I read on other forums that you don't get your old games back, but those were old threads.

Maybe it's a US only thing? Unless your account is EU.

I'm in the UK and it's a UK account. I downloaded a mini that was given out with Plus and played it on my Vita so there should be no issues with it. The rest of the stuff I have are PS3/PS1 games but they were pushed to the front of my list with everything else.

Sony must have changed it if this was a thing. I was always under the impression that you only lost stuff for the period you weren't a subscriber though. Meaning you get access to your old stuff again when you renew.

Take your two points here and combine them!
E3 demos available exclusively through their new streaming service for PS+ members

Makes sense as it would get a hell of a lot of users trying the new service, minus the risk of using full games as a test bed. Win Win!

It's good to know that you can get your games back. That was what always held me back from resubscribing to the service. Thanks for the info.

Thanks guys!

I downloaded/tagged virtually everything that was free. Almost missed out on that.

I have to say though, a LOT of the free dynamic themes are absolute dogshit. That robot dynamic theme? What the fuck is that?

I was going to say that obviously it's "buy it now so you can stream all the PS2/PS1 content/E3 specials/etc/etc on Monday" tweet but that other message already cleared this up.

Lol, my plus sub runs out on Tuesday. I won't renew.

I wonder if whatever this rumor entails will still be within my running sub.

Mine ran out a couple of weeks ago, and I considered the question of renewal briefly before confirming it. PS+ has been a pleasant surprise for me, and I'm happy to give them another year to see how it evolves, rumour or no.

I keep all the "subscribed" PS+ games in their own folder so I can easily judge what would disappear, and it's like 12 middling-to-good games :)
