PS Vita general advice thread, part 3 | Veni, vidi, Vita

So I've had my Vita since launch...and I can't recall ever getting hand cramps on this thing. Seriously. The ergonomics took a little getting used to it, but this is my by far the most comfortable handheld I've ever played with.

This! I remember getting cramps all the time with the PSP, but I haven't had any yet when playing on my Vita.

I finally bought Hustle Kings. I played the career mode for almost 2 hours straight. I highly recommend the game, especially considering you get it for Vita and PS3 and there's cross-platform online. It's from the same people who made Pure Chess afaik.

HK is a fine game, also like that they give you the PS3 version for free too. Would be nice if other devs did something similar.

Call of Duty
Bioshock
Assasin Creed
Medal of Honour
Fifa
Madden?

All the major franchises on Vita. With a pricedrop things can turn around. Fingers crossed!

Sony is pretty stubborn with when people expect price drops, the only thing we will probably be getting between now and I imagine this time next year will be bundles, bringing up the perceived value of the system without having to reduce the overall price.

Yeah Mutant Blobs is a really nice little platformer, well worth the money.

I'm weirdly tempted by the Chess game that popped up. I'm not even a big chess nerd but it just looks so cool. Look at it! Dat DoF!

Couple random questions.

I assume Modnation Racers still doesn't have head to head online play? They had said some bullshit about patching it in maybe, though I assumed that would never actually happen.

Also, that patch they put out for Final Fantasy Tactics to fix the slowdown, if I just buy the game now, will it already be patched? I thought when the patch was first released, you had to jump through some hoops to apply it.

There's a patch? Because I bought the game and there's definitely slowdown in it for me.

Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack - worth getting?

I'm not a fan of the framerate or the gimmicky Vita control integration in some sections as I've said before, but the game itself is very good, with lots of content and great humor. Comes highly recommended.

Pretty sure that patch is a PSP hack.

Oh. Well that is saddening to hear. I never read much about it, just saw a thread about it here and took a quick glance.

EDIT: Yeah, have to have custom firmware on PSP to apply the patch. That pisses me off that Square isn't fixing it themselves, but users have.

Yeah, as expected it was just a bullshit statement to get us off their backs. There hasn't been a modnation patch since week one. Bummer too because the game is actually pretty damn fun despite the horrible framerate and lack of online. The new driving model is great and the new tracks in the career mode are a lot of fun.

Alright, so I won't be buying that. Thanks.

Yes good call. I always wanted to play it but the framerate caused me more frustration then it was worth and I ended up deleting it to save space. Not sure how others can even enjoy it..

Has this been posted before?

How’s PS Vita software performing almost four months after it’s debut in the West and nearly half a year later in Japan? Play Magazine UK ( Issue 219) has the answer.

In a two page feature on the PS Vita, the publication shared worldwide data for six of the PS Vita’s top selling titles. And not surprising Nathan Drake’s portable adventure come out on top.

•Uncharted: Golden Abyss -530k
•Hot Shots Golf: World Invitation -200k
•Wipeout 2048 -100k
•Unit 13 -100k
•Lumines -40k
•Mod Nation Racers -40k

The magazine didn’t specify if the total number of sales for the above titles included digital copies.

Gravity Daze’s 100k+ shipments in Japan since its February 9th release in the country also wasn’t included in this report. That’s likely due to the fact that Gravity Rush, as it’s called in the West, doesn’t release outside of the Japan until later this month.

edit: seems fake, no source.

No question mark needed. Launching on Maddenoliday with the PS360 versions.

Why is FFIV: Collection $30? Come on.

Wait. It's been on sale for $20 in the past.

Cool, thanks. I wish Amazon sold PSN redemption codes or something like that. That way, I wouldn't have to deal with PSN's monopoly.

Square Enix Tax, lol.
I can only assume they don't want to sell their games with some of the prices for their games, but then I think most of the Japanese side of SE is still stuck firmly in the last generation and is still pretty out of touch with the rest of the games industry.

BS! I've ordered RDD many times before.

Has anyone managed to pre-order from Amazon?
I can't even get overnight to get delivered on the 12th. WTF!
I would hate to give Gamestop my business.

I've been having the same issue with Gravity Rush, and this was Amazon's response to it for me:

Hello,

I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused in this regard. I've checked the product detail page on Amazon.com, and it appears the item is not currently eligible for this shipping option.

We only offer the Release-Date Delivery option when we know we can get the item from our suppliers in time to meet our delivery promise to you. It is possible that this item will become eligible as the release date gets closer and we've confirmed our inventory.

Also, please be informed that once the order is placed it is not possible for us to change the shipping method to release date delivery. To help make up the delay, I've upgraded the shipping method to One-Day at no additional charges to you, and the new estimated delivery date is June 14, 2012.

I guess that's the best I can hope for unless they start allowing RDD again sometime this week.

Yeah, I wasn't able to get RDD either. They gave me 1 day shipping as well.

I have. It's probably because I pre-ordered so early.

BestBuy Canada has $5 off Gravity Rush pre-orders online. It gets applied right in the cart so yeah.. almost same price as digital.

Brad said something on the Bombcast this week about Amazon shipping getting worse. Pretty weird.

Just ordered Mortal Kombat from them with free 2 day shipping. Shit better be here on time.

A few deals at Toys R Us this week.

I received my DIII CE just fine from them via release day shipping, so I wouldnt worry. How big was the digital version of Gravity Rush though?

So I am thinking of getting Hustle Kings with 10.00 credit I have at Best Buy. The digital code they have, does anyone know if I'll get the PS3 version with that like if I were making the purchase on the PSN or is it just the vita version?

I am relatively certain that buying either version grants you both versions. I bought the Vita version on the PS Store and can download it on my PS3 as well, for example.

If you do get it, we should play sometime!

Question: When do TV shows update on PSN? The day after they air or Who Knows O' Clock Grace Chen Time on Tuesdays? Specifically, would tonight's Mad Men be up on PSN tomorrow morning? I'd love to watch it on mah Vita on the train to work.

Alternatively, does anybody know if the video formats from other stores (iTunes / Zune / Amazon Unbox / whatever) can play on the Vita with minimal transcoding bullshit?

Edit: Also, I see episodes in the PS Store on Vita only say SD, while they're available in HD on the PS3... I assume if I buy a HD video on PS3 I'd be able to transfer it directly to the Vita with no fuss, right? I assume so but it throws me off that you can't buy in HD directly on the Vita.

So, obviously, this is going to be the best place for Vita info this week as it breaks. I just want to get that out of the way. But this forum took a shit during the Nintendo pre-e3 presser... so I figured I'd mention my site will be doing an irregularly updated live-blog of the event and breaking news after the event.

Though, even at that point, twitter will still be a better resource for news, especially if you follow Wario64.

And also, I was just looking at the numbers for my little vita fan site and they are pretty darn good for a fan site of a DOOOOMED system that's so young. And I feel like i have Neogaf and this thread to thank. There's been many people that have talked to me directly in this thread, have sent me private messages and talked to me on twitter (but found the site through here) that I just want to thank all of you guys. I made the site because I like to write, I'm not necessarily trying to be in lolgamesjournalism (though I would love to have a paid job writing again, I used to write for a newspaper...). But I'm not doing this to become a huge site, or break into the industry. I just like to write and I like the vita and seems like some of you guys like that stuff too. And I'm feeling really sappy so this is my emo message to vitagaf.

Anyway, thanks again. And here's a link, bookmark it just in case gaf goes down tomorrow ;)

Having finally finished Devil Survivor Overclocked on the 3DS, I decided to show the Vita some love outside of podcasts. So, I've started playing Tactics Ogre. With filtering to improve the appearance of the text, the game looks phenomenal. However, mechanics-wise, there is just so much to take in. The Devil Survivor games feel very streamlined by comparison. I know I should probably read through all of the guides, but I'm sort of trying to play to understand more and then looking up info as needed. I'm definitely going to stick with the game, just need to overcome the substantial learning curve.

How new are you to SRPG's outside of Devil Survivor? TO is pretty standard stuff if you've played FFT before, the only real difference being the Rewind system which is amazing.
You'll get the hang of it shortly, Hawkmen with Bows is practically the win button if you get stuck on the difficulty at all.
Can you take screenshots playing PSP games? I'd like to see a better comparison between TO filtered and not filtered.

Yeah, it definitely reminds me of FFT, or at least what I played of it. I haven't lost any battles yet; it's just that there are considerably more variables to consider. And the rewind system is incredibly nice, meant to mention that. Would have killed for something like that in DSO at certain points! :(

I'm actually not sure, haven't taken any screenshots yet :lol
