Mainly play old RPGs like Tactics Ogre on it.

Switch is flimsy fall apart shit compared to Vita build quality.

Whilst there is some Vita love maybe someone can help?

My Vita has an old PSN log in of mine that doesnt log in - I've long since forgotten the password or even the email address it was registered to so cannot reset password but it also seems I cannot add / create a new PSN account? It always defaults to the one I cant remember?

My Vita also is modded but not soft-modded so the CFW is permanently on the system, I dont have to keep re-enabling it if that makes sense or any difference?

If I factory reset my Vita is that going to get rid of the CFW? And even if I did, will that allow me to create a new PSN?

Don't worry about it, you can always sign in with any other PSN account. Format it and softmod that with henkaku. Just careful linking it to your main psn account in case you want to play/link trophies for games you might not have purchased. To be honest, best keep disconnected from any PSN really.

When I looked into it there was a homebrew app that lets you remove PSN accounts from the Vita, so I just used that and replaced his with my own. You should be able to do the same if the Vita is at least softmodded for homebrew. I'm at work at the moment so can't check my Vita to see if I still have it installed unfortunately

Having checked my Vita I still have the app installed that I used for my issue. The one which worked for me was the ONElua Account Manager

Yep, I love the device and have AssCreed white OLED and a nice blue 2000 series. Plus 2 Vita TVs (got second one like for $50 when they were clearing them out).

I haven’t been playing it much lately so need to dust it off and play some Muramasa or one of the numerous RPGs. SDCard mod is a must though as Vita larger memory cards are unreliable.

Ah can be.
Without workarounds regarding the front/back touchscreen, the partially necessary camera integration and the motion sensor, I don't see much added value in emulating the Vita anyway.
With a DS4 or DS5 it could work and at least for the PSTV there are workarounds to play games like Uncharted and just skip the part with the camera implementation IIRC.
There's just something special about playing a real PS Vita game from the cartridge on a real Vita.
My hacked Vitas only run ports, PS1 and PSP games and not Vita games.

What's going wrong?

I honestly don't know. I have the PSTV set up so that it recognizes external files, but it doesn't install the suprx files needed to run most games. It also isn't bricked because i can do ENSO hen just fine.

I have my original OLED one from back in the day. SD card and homebrew is fantastic. Just wish I could get the OC menu to work.

I remember the days of connecting the Vita to the PS3 and having to do that weird transfer capsule games over but don't install it on the PS3 first or it will never work on the Vita days.
I did not use my Vita much, the 3DS was a better travel around device.

I recently discovered how awesome the homebrew scene is on Vita. I have a PSTV hooked up with a 256gb flash drive for storage.

As for emulation, it even has quite a few Dreamcast games that work on it and anything older works flawlessly. It even has a fork of chaiki to stream your PS5.

I tried to get a Vita a couple times when I've visited Japan but was never able to find one new in box and I don't want a used one.

Japanese Vitas are in great condition. At some point I'll probably add some emulators for other handheld games, but even just for stuff I missed out on PSP and Vita it's solid. Perfect form factor for a handheld device. Shame Sony didn't support it properly and won't consider a follow up.

Bad timing. Company wasn't really in good shape at the time. They were sinking. That being said, we know they are considering a follow up.

I still have the OLED launch model in black. Haven't used it in a while now, though. Became a little obsolete ever since I have a Steam Deck.
Used to play a fuckton of Wipeout on it, more so than any other Vita game.

I've been playing OOT on my 3DS and I really miss the small form factors of older handhelds. As much as I like the Switch and Deck, I find the too cumbersome to be truly portable.

I still use my OG 1000 Vita I bought on 2012 almost daily.
Almost perfect form factor, unbeatable D-pad and buttons, plays Vita/PS1/PSP/CPS1/CPS2/SNES/MD/NES/GBs/NeoGeo handhelds at full speed, and the OLED screen. It's so good I bought an addiitonal 2000 LCD unit just in case the OG dies. All that is missing is the L2/R2 which can be rectified by the Hori grip.

Despite having the Steam deck, the Vita and the N3DSXL are always my go-to.

Many of these ports, like Dead Space, Max Payne or Mass Effect for example, are wrappers for the android versions of the games. So you basically play the android versions which are translated to the vita, display and input wise.

I recently discovered how awesome the homebrew scene is on Vita. I have a PSTV hooked up with a 256gb flash drive for storage.

As for emulation, it even has quite a few Dreamcast games that work on it and anything older works flawlessly. It even has a fork of chaiki to stream your PS5.

I literally have a PSTV sitting next to a Gameboy Micro doing nothing but collecting dust about five feet away from me. That could be a fun project.

Same. I had the official memory cards die, so I went with the SD hack. It was so long ago that I don't remember what software I installed.....

I did emulate for a bit, but its mostly retired now. Legion Go has replaced a few things.

I still have my 2 Vitas and PS TV around, all hacked with SDVita since memory card reliability is complete shit above 16GB. Seriously, just WTF Sony!

I will admit I don’t play them as much, but sometimes will pick one up and play Murimasa or some dungeon crawler or other games on one.

Switch and Deck OLED basically took over for the most part and I also have Anbernik RG556 for Android based emulation.

Still, Vita is an amazing device, it’s easy to hack now days and SD card mod is simple. And it does have a great library. Vita TV is also pretty neat as you can easily output to a regular screen and hook up DS4 controller.

It was really ahead of its time but hamstrung by Sony due to priori memory , lack of 4 shoulder buttons and lack of software support from Sony.

Still play my OG Vita daily, at times it is still my most played system, while I have entire rooms dedicated to the PS5, PS4 and PC. Everything working and running just fine, though I did have to get a new battery and replace a frayed power cord about 5 years ago. It is the one system I keep away from the kids, they are all in the Switch ecosystem at this point, so I think it's safe.

I'm considering the sd card hack. My cards are still working but they won't forever. I still have a card with a bunch of PS1 games on it that I installed when Sony accidentally allowed all digital PS1 games to be installed on Vita that one time and I don't want to lose access to them.

It isn't great over WiFi because PSTV can't do 5ghz, but if you can wire both with Ethernet it will do a lot better.
