Does PS Vita exist / Lack of Vita games at E3

As disappointing as the conference was I don't really see a reason to sell my Vita quite yet. Especially with games such as Gravity Rush, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Jet Set Radio HD coming out pretty soon while at the same time being addicted to Disgaea 3. I really love this thing and I don't want to see it burn. I can only hope that there id something big coming soon :(

Announce more than 6 months away from release is not the ideal. Hope it will be better, I don't want to know or see some games that too long coming.

I was absolutely shocked that they didn't have footage of Call of Duty. It must be really rough if it coming out in the holidays and they didn't show it.

PS Vita is no Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, GBA, or PSP.

It's more like the 32x, or the MegaCD.

Yes it has only been four months in some places, but after seeing the PSP Go die on it's arse, who would want to risk buying digital games for the thing anyway? They need to get actual physical games out there worth buying. They can mention all the minis, and psp and ps1 games all day.

It's hard enough to convince people to buy the machine, but they can't even manage to encourage people to keep the machine.

I don't think it's an overreaction when Sony spends 3 minutes on it during their 2 hour conference and 30 minutes on a stupid ass fucking gimmicky book.

Coming from someone who actually has a Vita. Yes, it was disappointing. Matter of fact, I was a little pissed, but then realized there are a handful of games I care about coming out over the next year. Persona 4: The Golden is technically why I bought a Vita. Well, that and Uncharted, but that was a bit underwhelming. Gravity Rush comes out soon. There's still LBP. I might pick up Sly for Vita rather than PS3. Will definitely pick up ACIII: Liberation. Soul Sacrifice as well. Nah, I'm fine. But would have liked more. WAY more. But who doesn't?

Yeh us Vita owners really got screwed at this conference. I mean get this there was not even a single first party announcement that was not a PS3 port for the Vita!!!! Jesus, I kinda expected an Infamous Vita, even a Twisted Metal, anything!
Heaven knows I'm miserable now.

-Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation
-Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified
-Playstation All-Stars
-Madden 13
-Fifa 13
-Little Big Planet Vita

Is there anything else coming?

Sly cooper thieves in time.
Jet set radio hd
Zoe hd collection
Mgs hd collection
Soul sacrifice
Pso2
Persona 4 the golden
Persona fighting game
Dust 514
Ffx hd
Gravity rush
Ragnorak oddesey
Warriors lair
Sound shapes

I dunno any more.

Like I mention in other thread, Tretton mentions 60 titles are slated for release this year on the vita.

They are simply not announcing some titles. There were games in sizzle reel that received no spotlight like dust 514 and doa5.

Any one of us at this board with access to a film editor and previews from youtube could've done more to promote the Vita in five minutes than SCEA did in 2 and a half hours.

You guys do know there are games still coming out for the Vita?

Soul Sacrifice still exists, Sound Shapes still exists, PSASBR and Sly Cooper still exist, Warriors lair.....may still exist lol. I get the lack of announcements or presence at the conference but that doesn't erase the past month's of game announcements for the system.

They really should have cut that Wonderbook thing in half and did a Soul Sacrifice demo. That would have at least made for a better conference.

I honestly do not understand what Sony is thinking.

I really don't. They spent 30 min on stupid book gimmick. That much time should have been spent on Vita. Do they even care?

At least I wish they care.

Exactly. What do people expect?

On one hand everyone's saying "Noooo you cant charge full price for handheld software in this smartphone dominated age, its suicide", and on the other how much time do you expect them to spend in the limited schedule of a presser of mid to low-price digital content? At best you get a fucking montage which does no good at all because the stuff included is blink and you'll miss it.

And more than anything else, how many games does it make sense for Sony to shit out in a short space of time? Where's the marketing?

The weird thing is that Sony started pushing out Vita Announcements pre-E3.

Looks like they should have waited and announced Guacamelee, Jet Set Radio HD, Sly 4, All Stars, Assassin's Creed, and gotten something from COD vita (even a screenshot). This would have at least given them something to talk about.

James Mielke? Sony PR mouthpiece extraordinaire? That Mielke?

I don't think Mielke was lying or anything about his knowledge of unannounced Japanese Vita titles; I just think he was probably being far too optimistic about the ability of those titles to move hardware. And he would have us believe that people are only "imagining" that Vita has problems...

I really hope this turns out to be like the original DS. Where everyone started selling their systems and complaining, then a flood of gaming goodness from then till the end of its cycle happened.

How about they show something? Build consumer & developer confidence in the machine rather than throwing it in a shallow grave.

so fucking true.

Even if they didnt have unannounced surprises they could of pushed the Vita with a decent showing of announced stuff with footage (persona, sly,MGs,Gravity rush,soundshapes...even that whacky fighting rhythm game)

Thats what should have been in a Vita demo roll before the book/after they were talking about COD and AC3.

Are they having that much trouble finding 3rd-party devs for the thing? It's seriously just dead.

I'm hoping there will be a bunch of surprise titles on the show floor on Wednesday. Otherwise, the Vita will have had more playable games last year at E3 than this year, which would be nothing short of pathetic.

C'mon, Sony. It's such awesome hardware, and we're starving for content. Please?

So I haven't had a chance to watch the show yet...did they LITERALLY announce nothing for Vita?

they announced its death today.

Reggie said gamers want games. i'm sure sony is going to catch up. Microsoft showed live gameplay demo some E3 ago. Sony is just doing that. maybe in 2 E3 from now they will go back to actually showing new games.

So disappointed. Good thing Mgs collection and gravity daze is coming out in the next few weeks. Nothing on the horizon for holiday season :-s fuck me Sony, their sheer lack of sense astounds me

It's not about what has been worked on for the past year/2 years in anticipation of the platform, it's about what kind of projects are going to be greenlighted right now from third parties for a fledgling platform that makes the 3DS's sputtering out of the gate look like a casual stroll.

Pretty much this. Only while I'm waiting for P4G, my hefty list of downloadable PSP RPG's is keeping me quite happy.

So I haven't had a chance to watch the show yet...did they LITERALLY announce nothing for Vita?

COD Black Ops II side story, AC3 liberation, PS All stars, PS1 classics (but no one knows how soon or whether its everything).

And with Tomba coming out tomorrow on PSN...that would have been an excellent time for full PS1 compatibility.

I'll be snagging Gravity Rush, Gungnir, Growlanser, Persona 4 Golden, and maybe Ragnarok Odyssey. Soul Sacrifice seems cool, but not sure how far out that is. Not bothering with Vita versions of PS3 games that are pretty much the same/release same day.

A montage is better than nothing though!

This worries me. I just picked up a Vita in Target today and played around with it and was amazed. Now to think Sony/third parties may have given up on it? Man...

I think what most people expect is for Sony to act like they give a shit about it.

I would just like to know why I cannot play the PS Classics titles on my PS Vita today.

They wanted wiggle room on the chance they decide to just scrap the whole vita thing tomorrow. I'm guessing it's 50/50.

Either way, That CoD game is never happening.

Gravity Rush.

Yeah, by the way.

Gravity Rush comes out in literal days. The game is done. Nothing more is being added on to it. It is by all accounts a quality game and is the first exciting title for the Vita.

How did they not show a single trailer, mention the game at all, or say ANYTHING AT ALL about it?

anyone honestly think that it can rubberband back a la 3DS?

Yeah, by the way.

I'm buying it twice.

I don’t think the Vita is dead, I think Western devs don’t really care about handhelds in general. If Sony, or any other major Japanese publisher, don’t have any exclusives at TGS for Vita then I’ll start to get worried.

The reason I’m disappointed at their E3 conference is that they didn’t do anything to help the Vita in the West. Sure a new color, an AssCreed game, and a spin-off CoD game are alright but where’s the price drop (or even the price point for the bundle)? Where are the Plus benefits for Vita owners? Where’s the support at all? Would it have been that hard for Jack to go, “Hey Vita owners, we know things are kind of crap but keep your head up. Shits about to get real!”

There are games coming out for the Vita but a lot of them are aimed at the niche audience that the PSP served in its final years, or ports/remakes. Sony needs a price drop, or reasonably priced bundles, and to let gamers know shit is in the pipeline. Otherwise it’s just going to be another PSP with only the niche publishers (Atlus, XSEED, NIS, ect) supporting it.

I haven't been following the portable side of things that closely, but I'll take a wild guess.

1) 3rd parties decided early on (prior to launch) not to back the Vita after seeing how trying to establish a balance of power in the portable space between Sony & Nintendo didn't work out for them.

2) 3rd parties were initially willing to back the Vita, but then saw how it and the 3DS were going to have a harder time gaining traction this time around. Because Nintendo has been a bit more cooperative lately and also managed to turn their portable hardware sales around, publishers began cancelling Vita projects or moving them to the 3DS.

1) OR 2) resulted in a unavoidable software drought that Sony couldn't afford to fix which translates into a fairly light E3 showing. Furthermore, Vita's poor hardware sales now put them in a position where they have to decide how much effort they want to spend in reviving the system. Regardless of what they decide, it appears they're kind of stuck for at least the next 6 months.

Am I on the right track?
