Just back from the 2nd viewing, this time in 2D.

Still such an amazing movie.

If I had to choose I'd say see it in 3D, it actually added a really nice depth to some scenes.

I saw it in 3D first time last last night. I'm maybe gonna see it again in 2D.

Overall the 3D was pretty meh as usual. Can't remember any scenes where it really added anything at all. There were quite a few times where I was trying to focus on what was happening, but its hard. It like crossing your eyes but trying to see just one image, it's annoying.

The 3D was once again, pretty much a disappointment imo.

I haven't seen too many flicks in 3D mainly because it's so meh, but Avatar is the only film that really made an impact in it's use of 3D.

Ridley Scott kind of hinted that he preferred the 2D print in the five live interview. As much as you can hint when your film is launching with 70% run as 3D.
 
The 3D was nice, I think it's just the normal trade you make, a less vibrant experience, with the inherent visual compromises of tinted glasses, with a richer sense of depth and spacial awareness.

There is certainly good and bad 3D, but I don't think people should be trying 3D again and again if they've not enjoyed it in the past. There's no revelation coming with it.

He was asked do you see yourself using 3D in the future and he replied nnnnnnnn and then said maybe. He will use it for Blade Runner because it seems the only way he will get the budget he also added the 2D print is beautiful.

...That is truly unexpected. I thought Scott was behind this being shot in 3d 100% considering the special care taken in designing the sets with 3d in mind and all. I guess he had a bad experience or doesn't think it adds much to films after all now actually having experimented with it.

I was riling up the thread more than anything. Can't say something like that till I see Prometheus again tomorrow night to digest it further.
 
JC was a fine, fun film; definitely my favorite of the wide releases I've seen so far this year, and given the reactions to Prometheus I'm not expecting it to be topped until TDKR (sorry Spidey).

The special effects were very nice in 3D. People who are proclaiming such things as "like crossing your eyes to see a hidden picture" must either be in an uncalibrated cinema, or just strain their eyes psychosomatically. It's one picture for each eye. That's how "real life 3D" works. Ghosting can be a problem, but it's up to your local cinema and how good it is.

To me, this was actually the first time when 3D added more than it removed. It didn't have any of those cheesy "LOOK IT'S 3D" scenes, and the particle-effects were pretty awesome in 3D
 
Best wide releases of the year so far are The Grey and Tarsem's lovely, underrated Mirror Mirror!

lol Well...consider me riled. :p I actually have a serious question about the movie for you if you don't mind. In your review at the end you said in your opinion, the movie 'feels like a very hard PG13.' I find this interesting since Ridley talked a lot about the difficult cuts he had to make, ect. "I want certification the movie wil be profitable," ect and at the presser in France he expressed frustration about this and of course the moment where he said, "Is there anyone from the MPAA here tonight? If so get your house in order!" The ONE thing I accidentally spoiled myself for regarding the movie was the
self surgery scene, don't know who the character is, all I know of this scene if I'm getting it right is that one of them has to do a C-section/extraction on themselves with no pain killers and it's supposed to be really brutally cringeworthy and intense.
In your opinion is that part really R rating worthy or was there more than that scene that pushed it to an R (at least according to rediculous, often nonsensical MPAA "standards")

That would have been the scene that pushed it. It was a very meek R and I do suspect that the cut that was sent into the MPAA for classification was thought to have had a good chance of getting a PG13 and when it got slapped with an R it was never changed.

Interesting, that's what I thought, thanks. Because this whole time as I discussed earlier either in this thread of the last one was that I seriously suspect while Ridley is happy with the director's cut, he was NOT happy about the rating he received after all the tough editing he did which was obviously in vain. So without spoiling anything would you say though that scene is
the "new chestburster" in terms of intensity?

Yes. (Not really spoilery)
Though robbed of some of its intensity since you have some idea of what is happening as opposed to the chestburster scene where going in you have nfi what is going on.

Animatrix (yeah you heard me), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Primer, The Fountain, Children of Men, and Inception for best recent sci-fi movies.

I'm really really let down in hearing reviews.

Does this mean Ridley Scott lost his touch?
 
Just a heads up to stay OUT of the E3 gifs thread in gaming side if you don't want part of the movie spoiled! Some genius in there posted a gif showing a crucial part of the film (fortunately I averted my eyes and missed it just in time).

That shit in the middle of the MS press conference was a total fuck-up for me too. Why the hell would they show something like that.

At least they did not spoil Game of Thrones to hell and back.

What's inevitable? He's been off more than he's been on. I don't get the gone-shit comments. Alien, Blade Runner and KOH are his only greats in my opinion, discounting Prometheus. Seems like he's held aloft to some unattainable and unpredictable standard.

Prometheus, if anything, is his return to form.

During the very start I was confident that it was the best 3D I had seen, but for the rest of the film it felt like it didn't exist, I wasn't noticing it at all.

If you're a 'fan' of 3D then watch it in 3D, but if you're planning on watching it in 2D don't be swayed by others saying the 3D is better, you'll just be wasting money.
