Nintendo E3 2012 Conference Thread

Don't kid yourself, the content wasn't there either. They showed like half the games they showed at 2006, just as I expected. I knew you were hyping everyone up for nothing.

Just because it wasn't shown on stage doesn't mean the content doesn't exist. I can't control that they decided to give something like NintendoLand that much time.

I can't believe they would show such a weak line-up after the bad launch the 3DS had, especially since they said they've learned from that.
What have they been working on these last few years? The Zelda demo last year was more impressive than this whole conference combined. Just ports of old games and casual stuff. It's still quite some time till the system launches, but my god, they should have known their fans were anticipating this conference and they gave them nothing, no glimpse at Metroid, Zelda, new IP, Smash Bros, Monolith/Retro project or whatever, nothing.

They didn't even show anything of the console itself, just the controller. After this conference I still don't know what the console looks like. No showing of the technical capabilities (they had tech demos last year, why not now when it's launching this year?), no release date, no pricing. After the 180 turn-around they managed with the 3DS I really did not expect this.

Well, the conference was a bit underwhelming, but I really liked what I saw from NSMB Wii U, Zombi U (the sniping is gonna be great) and Lego Undercover. I've never really got into Pikmin, so no comments on that.

From the smaller impact games I liked the ghost and DK thing from Nintendoland and the bobsleigh game in Wii Fit U.

Of course I wanted to see F-ZerU, oh well...

The Platinum Games project looks very polished too.

Guys...

All this shows is that many of Nintendo's studio's are still working.

RETRO'S GAME IS COMING.

MONOLITHSOFT'S GAME IS COMING.

3D MARIO IS COMING.

ZELDA IS COMING.

SMASH IS COMING.

ALL OF NINTENDO'S STUFF IS COMING.

IS COMING

Seems like a lot of people were disappointed with just about every conference.

What was outstanding imo at the Conference was the range of games (compared to other press briefings this year) that were seen, from Casual too shooter over RTS much was covered. I think the hardcore crowed has a problem with colors and not enough brown, gore and shooting.

A decent Racer wasn't there, but we knoe Project C.A.R.S is coming.

All in all it wasn't so bad imo. Better then Microsoft and EA where one shooter followed the next. Ubisoft was much tronger, I did not watch Sony

So does that mean games that run at 30fps won't support two wii u pads? Most games released on console are 30fps

Who knows. Games can run at 60fps, but they cant have all the bells and whistles that games run at 30fps. The issue here is if a game is running 30fps and has a shit ton of stuff going on and then you activate that 2nd screen what happens? Does the frame rate get cut in half to unplayable levels or do they reduce details, aa, or any other image quality things?

Well, I saw 6 games I'm excited for, so I'm happy with that.
Pikmin 3, Project P-100, ZombiU, Rayman Legends, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Lego City Undercover. And Scribblenauts is the only one that's not exclusive.

Not bad. Not good, but not bad.

EDIT: Also, just realized that Ninja Gaiden 3 dismemberment is Wii U exclusive lol. I guess Wii owners hadn't seen that before?

I knew Retro weren't ready to show their game... KNEW IT!

I have to wonder whether Nintendo are holding back showing off games for next year because they want surprises to combat the launch of the XBOX 720 and PS4?

In any case, third party support is disappointing..

Watching Reggie on Spike pisses me off even more.

ALL THESE GAMES IN THE LAUNCH WINDOW!

But when is the launch?

This is just maddening.

Expect September release of details as they ramp up production and know what will be available. Other than that, no price nor release date for awhile. It's the Sony protocol.

Can we get another Nintendo community thread. I'd rather a more reasonable thread instead of the extra people who were never interested. Seems disappointing but I want some better, cooler head.

Either way, I'm adding PC to my lineup anyway as I can't trust the 1st parties nor the 3rd parties. Either there are no games/ports coming to this thing or they are holding back info? Even a shitty port from a 3rd rate dev would be better than not hitting the Wii U this winter.

Mario and Pikmin guarantee a solid launch at least. Nintendo probably didn't want to show anything too far off into the future.

I probably won't be picking one up though. Wii was lightning in a bottle - I don't know if this will measure up.

I'll be more than happy with 360/3DS.

The lack of EA really hurt too.

I assume their sports line up is on the way along with ME3 but I was shocked to not see them on stage.

one of either 2 things is going to happen:

1) They're rushing the fuck with it to release it just before xmas.

2) It will get delayed pissing off investors/fans but will be a better product overall.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

man everyone thinking this was the worst Nintendo conference needs to get their head screwed back on.

Did you forget 2008 E3?

Remember when it was only just ANIMAL CROSSING and WII MUSIC?

Nintendo showcased a ton of games here, chances are a lot of these will be launch titles and only 2-5 of them suck.

Admit it, if Zelda or smashbros had a trailer at the conference you'd all be sucking Nintendos dick right now.

Also pretty dumb people expected a price and release date at E3.
Did you forget Nintendo didn't do that with the Wii?

Daschysta we were kind of hoping for a reason to be interested at all.

This didn't do that.

Yes NSMB is going to be a great game, so is Pikmin. But they had no single drop of new "core" gamer content.

I consider myself practically a Nintendo fanboy. I always look to them first in my gaming.

But jesus. There's only so little they can give me before I think "Yeah... whatever."

I would have liked a peak at Retro's game. Ditto to Monolith, EAD Tokyo and any other number of their studio's. Sure I would.

But a reason to be interested? It had tons for me.

Console launches are typically very barren, NSMB is a huge, huge title from first party. Pikmin is a critical darling, as well as to people here, and it looked just fantastic, and showed everything that I could want from a sequel to pikmin, it looked very good graphically, especially since it started production as a WII game.

ZombiU actually looked very good.

Look guys. the focus of E3 is more and more casual, casual, casual. You saw this with Sony, you saw it with Microsoft.

Hell, they just casually threw out a friggin' platinum games exclusive! Is this no longer a big deal to people? It's directed by Kamiya! Exclusive! Published by Nintendo!

If they are doing this then hell, why not show Retro's game during the Developers roundtable? Monolith's?

Yes, the show wasn't very good, neither were Microsoft's or Sony's (they were even worse) E3 isn't just for us anymore. It's not really even primarily for us. (I'm referring to the press conferences themselves.)

Ninty is getting most 3rd party multiplats now, got some exlusive 3rd party games (almost unheard of these days) When was last time UBI gave 360 or PS3 an exclusive? Let alone 2?

Why do we have to be spoonfed Nintendo's games? We know they are coming. I get being bored by the Conference, but the people jumping ship as if we don't know with 100 percent certainty those games are coming?

What dissapointed people about 3rd parties?

Assassins Creed
Arkham City
Rayman (Exclusive)
ZombiU (exlusive)
Darksiders 2
Mass Effect 3
Lego City Stories (exclusive)
EA Sports
Tekken Tag 2
Scribblenauts U (exclusive)
Project P-100 (exclusive game designed by Kamiya, creator of the masterpiece Okami, publlished by Nintendo!)
Project Cars

And now that NDA's are lifted presumably more 3rd party multiplats should be announced.

Other than Nintendo's big first party games what else did people expect from the conference? And if we KNOW they are coming (They are) then why would people be saying ridiculous things about "jumping ship" as if they were sold and then this conference changed their minds? Crazy!

These conference nowadays are clearly for mass consumption, designed for the press, hence "press conference". It's understandable that they have an obligation to show things that will be consumed by the masses, hence NSMBU, JUST DANCE, WII FIT U, NINTENDOLAND. Microsoft made asses of themselves (celbrities, all the smartglass, ridiculously long) so did sony (wonderbook focus, no Vita!)

Yes the lineup is weak in Nintendo games, but that won't last and anyone not in some reactionary frenzy can see that. People need to readjust their expectations of E3, it's what the show is now.

Heck we even have confirmed specs of an older Wii-U devkit, and even those are easily stronger than the PS360 and have modern architecture, just makes me more excited for future games on the thing, and what WAS shown looks fantastic, especially Pikmin, Rayman and Lego City Stories.

Prior to this conference the deep down Nintentard in me guaranteed I'd buy the system at launch. And even though such a thing is still possible, I suppose the most shocking thing for me about this conference is the reality slap that I probably won't be missing much if I wait it out. The software line-up is one unappealing game after the other. It's like they're making a console specifically not for me.

Pikmin 3 is a shoe-in, and I'll get Mario eventually, but that's about it. P-100 will probably be fun. And that's it.

As it stands, the Wii U is the kind of system I can look at and comfortably say "I'll wait until later", because until the inevitably great things come, there's almost nothing of value.

And I bought a 3DS at launch. In Australia.

Instead of brown shooters, we got RTS, Mario platformer, handheld Mario platformer, dance game, party game, minigame collection.

The variety was lacking there too.

Sigh. They left the Wii for dead so they could announce THIS?

If anything, this tells me that Nintendo's devs are probably struggling with high-definition software development. There wasn't a single thing from them that we couldn't have seen on Wii.

That was the worst fucking conference i've seen in my life. I've been watching E3 for 12 years and nothing even comes close to the piece of shit that was this conference. That's it, I'm done. I'm selling all my Nintendo games and consoles tomorrow. You just lost a fan, and not just any fan, a big one.

Just because it wasn't shown on stage doesn't mean the content doesn't exist. I can't control that they decided to give something like NintendoLand that much time.

That's skirting the issue massively. All I was talking about was what they showed on stage. That's all that I, and everyone else in that thread, cared about. Did you think we want a Vita-like situation where they ignore the majority of games?

This was all about the conference. Admit it, you were wrong.

Sony had no surprises, no Vita, and they still had a better conference.

I'm just baffled. I'd grade it similarly to MS conference. Just one huge missed opportunity.

These last years, tons of content were revealed AFTER the conference, during the E3, so please don't jump to hastily conclusions and bad comments about Nintendo until E3 finish :)

btw, 2 gamepad support, you heard it first here :p

And Pikmin 3, Mario Wii U, Nintendoland (which looks extremely fun, you have to watch the presentation with Iwata), ZombiU (the Wii U features implementations will be so fun), Project P-100 (i LOVE this kind of games), all the other titles... and the ones not introduced yet ! nothing to be disappointed at seriously guys :)

Seriously, it was the worst E3 of my life. So much disappointement.

You_are_already_dead-(n1296951764362).jpg

In seriousness, Nintendo kept saying they wanted third party support, they have got nothing but late ports. EA look to be doing exactly what they did with the Dreamcast (no support really) and look how that ended.

did the console makers forget what E3 is about? you are supposed to get me excited about the upcoming games and hardware for the next year and put me in a frothing state of euphoria were I want to mortgage everything I own to buy your shit!!!!

tell me a price!
release date!
moar games!
new franchises or some shit!
come Nintendo! get it togheter!

the conference itself was not the greatest, but it wasn't as boring as some of the others this year.

that being said, i really dont care what happens during the conference as long as they reveal some new games over the next few days... like this platinum games gmae they just showed on spike.

The first 10 minutes of the conference were beautiful. Miyamoto's brisk entrance, the way Trinen ran to his master like a Pikmin, and then the immediate demo of the game... It really did seem that Nintendo had come to save E3.

But then, damn.

I will say though, Project P-100 looks totally fucking rad. If only it were a launch game.

Step away from the ledge!

Hahaha

I love E3 for meltdowns like this.

It wasn't going to be easier to be worse than Sony, but somehow, Nintendo managed. Even MS had Southpark, I guess.

On a happy note. Glad new IPs are so well received.

Come on dude. This was bad but 2008 was much worse.

Are fans already trying to retcon the conference into having been not that bad? Six months from now, people will be going on about how they didn't see how everyone thought it was so bad, and that it was actually one of Nintendo's strongest E3 showings.

This is wholly a strawman.

? It wasn't great but still don't know if joking...

How will it be rushed though if it's released this year? They have said 2012 since last year.

It's just...

WHAT THE FUCK!

You go a year not saying anything leading to a conference where you didn't say much of anything?

It's like Seinfeld made real.

. I didn't see a damn thing that said, "yes, I need to spend $300 + $60 to play this game."

Did you?
Nope. That's the real scary part. There was next to nothing shown in any depth that I'm interested in. Maybe ME3 in the sizzle reel and maybe lego, maybe. Miiverse looks vomitous, Nintendo land I personally couldn't give a shit about (and it was shown horribly).

No info on many core titles. No online really, no services or apps. Just mainly casual shit and 2d Mario (yawn)

This really deflated my desire for the thing if that's all that's coming at launch/window. Was it too much to ask to want the Wii U to shine here?
