PS Vita general advice thread, part 3 | Veni, vidi, Vita

Hope you get the best price you can and really enjoy the Vita.

I think it is silly that people are abandoning the Vita because they didn't hear what they thought they should and are interpreting that as a lack of support on Sony's part.

I've played mine since mid March almost everyday and haven't run out of anything to play on it. If anything, the Vita is hurting my PS3 games backlog; especially with all of the titles that were just released on PS+.

I'm looking forward to Persona 4 on Vita as well. It looks good. I can't wait.

So no common hardware issues like loose analog sticks?

Think I'm still going to wait because still haven't seen anything beyond p4 remake although AC would be intriguing unless it's a mess like the psp one.

hmm so I would have to do that for every video file and then convert that to the video format for the vita right?

Its not that bad. Video files consist of a container (MP4, MOV, MKV, ... - the file extension), a video stream or codec (h.264, MPEG2, WMV, ...) and an audio stream (AC3, AAC, MP3, ...). MKV containers usually have a h.264 stream and for example an AC3 stream. A working MP4 container consists of a h.264 stream and an AAC stream. So you only have to repack the container from MKV to MP4 with a programm like Avidemux and encode the audio in AAC (and probably mix to stereo). That does not take very long, usually only a few seconds. There are tutorials how you can do this on the internet. The only annoying thing is, if the video stream is NOT in h.264 - that means you have to re-encode the video, which can take up to several hours. But MKV and MOV files are usually really easy to re-package.

PS: Unfortunately, the PS Vita can not play 1080p material right now, although it is planned for a later patch. That means if your video is in 1080p, you have to re-encode the video stream to 720p max. This will take a few hours, too. So you should prefer downloading 720p material. The quality is absolutely sufficient and great (PS Vita has "only" 960x544 and 720p is 1280x720).

yeah, I really do hope some streaming apps will appear on psn. It's sad that I can have airvideo on iphone and ipad that allows me to just link a folder on desktop client that allows me to stream all my videos and do real time conversion for non support files (which is all done with the computer's processor so it doesn't hurt the battery life).

Is there a way I can link my media network to my vita like how you kinda can with ps3?

Thinking of getting Freedom or Corpse Party.

I can't imagine how the 2 games could be any more different. You should be warned that Freedom Unite has a steep learning curve, but if it does click with you, it could be the only game you need for hundreds of hours of gameplay. I could not stop playing it for weeks when I got my Vita (since the Vita makes it playable for me with the 2nd analog stick).

Damn i really cant decide between gravity Rush and The MSG hd collection. Gravity Rush is 39.90 € and MGS is 28 €. But GR got so mouch praise from redsungamer and ive played though mg already

Really no idea what To get next

Haha. Yeah, they are polar opposites but heard good stuff about them both.

Both. :D
If i remember right, you're from Germany?
MGS HD will be released at 28. june there. So get GR at the 12th and MGS HD two weeks later. :P

This is probably a dumb question but if I got a vita and downloaded Monster Hunter would I be able to play ad-hoc with someone who only has a psp?

Grasshopper to offer Free PS Vita games for PS+ members

http://andriasang.com/con1e0/game_campus_winners/

"Game Campus Festa was started last year as a collaborative project between Grasshopper Manufacture and a number of game development schools throughout Japan....The full set of nine projects were announced in February. Of those, Uni Uni Union (puzzle action), Eledive (puzzle action), Octalide (action), Volt (puzzle action) and Mou, Sou Suru Shika Nai!! (puzzle) made it through the judgment phase. They will be available as downloads exclusively to PlayStation Plus members on June 21."

So it is possible to offer to PS+ members Vita games.

Some games already got some Plus discounts. Not to mention all the free psOne games that Plus offers once they patch that up.

I just don't know if it would be in their best interest to give away free games on a system that just started up and is somewhat struggling to get software on weekly basis.

Yeah, I'm not surprised that there hasn't been much love with PS+ discounts yet. It's good to see something though.

I started playing Mutant Blobs today and got the first 4 levels done.

Absolutely love this game already.

Love the little bits in the level backgrounds

Had the same dilemma, decided on both! Not missing out on any of them ;) Plus Pulsar on tuesday.

Wow, neat.

I haven't been excited enough for Gravity Rush that I wanted to buy day 1, so I only knew the release date was some time in June. I saw it today at Wal-mart (didn't buy it) and just assumed it was out everywhere, but it seems they have it really early after happening upon the release date on GAF.

Have any other early releases been reported? I might go back and get it.

Haven't seen any other mentions on GAF yet, but I did find they were selling it already at Superstore (South Common location in Canada) and picked up a copy last night. Hoping to get a bit of time to crack it open and play this evening.

I just tried the demo. The framerate is awful. Reminded me of the PS3 version's beta. Unless they've fixed it (they never really did for the PS3 version so I doubt it), I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for the heads up. I won't be getting this unless someone else has a different opinion on the full retail version.

Is 12 bucks for modnation racers (vita) a good deal or will I get tired of the game in a short period of time?

Best Buy Deal

Lack of online support killed this for me (besides the fact that I don't play much of the PS3 version I already have).

It is interesting that the sale is for the physical version only. I wish some of these sales would discount the digital downloads as well. Since they have already purchased the physical copies, I guess they have more control over how much they are willing to make on each copy of the game.

So no games have been announced for July yet?

Perfect time for Sine Mora, Retro City Rampage and DJ Max.....please?

Looks like Target (next week) is planning on offering a $50 gift card as well for wi-fi (only?) Vita:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322743

July is gaming release hell for all consoles. Maybe NCAA as that is the big July release for consoles, but there has been no word of a Vita port. Some of those digital releases you mentioned could fall there. August on is starting to shape up nicely though.

Played frobisher says while I was at e3...

I loved it, so quirky. The chick said they are having it as a free download for PS Vita sometime in the summer, can't wait.

If you live in NYC, you can pick this game up (along with Gravity Rush) right now.

Still not sure what the rules are when it comes to posting the locations. It's one of those mom and pop stores, but one of the well known ones. If anything, feel free to PM me.

Won't have a chance to really get into it since I'm headed back out but I'll see if I can take a few screenshots before leaving.

EDIT: As for trophies, they separated the 2 games. 46 trophies each.
