Microsoft Surface Tablet announced

I need the keyboard/trackpad attachment to be stiff enough to hold the tablet straight up, so that I can put in on my stomach while laying down in bed.

So it will cost some dollars, and it will come out some time.

Gotcha.

(Seriously looks impressive, but the price and battery life will determine its fate.)

impressed yet

I'm not sure that's anything new.

It didn't matter though, as the competitors weren't pushing the boundaries. They are even making their desktop stuff more like the mobile versions. Microsoft seem to be going the other way which is a good thing in my book.

ya, they're gonna wait to see overall reactions before seeing how much they can try and sell this for.

If high praise, for small loss.

If low praise, for a bigger loss.

Since this will be highly anticipated by most, I expect a pricey product.

I really want to say something encouraging about the future of Android Tablet, but I really can't at this moment. Your move Google, I supported you with 4 Android devices, I hope you bite back with great vengeance. Otherwise, my next tablet is most likely Microsoft's.

Surface for Windows RT available in 32GB and 64GB — priced to competitive rates with ARM tablets.

Intel version will have higher storage capacities... also priced to compete. So, no idea.

Ya blew it, Microsoft.

If Microsoft gets the Surface to market soon and at an attractive price this will be the most disruptive product since the iPad.

I don’t see how it will be disruptive. We’ve known about this strategy for Windows 8 for a while. the nice thing about this announcement is that MS isn’t leaving the hardware portion for OEMs and has come out with something nice.

the people buying tablets still care about app selection, music and movie stores. Windows 8 needs to prove itself as being better than the iPad and iOS in order for it to be disruptive (as opposed to just another option)

The pro version is not going up against the ipad. it’ll be too expensive and too heavy. it’s nice that it exists, but it’s a separate thing.

Good.

Competition should be welcomed.

No way they'll 'beat' Apple but they definitely light some fire under their asses.

You have to remember how much a failure Apple was not that long ago, not sure how they're now unbeatable. If anything, they showed you can turn companies around, from the brink even.
