Microsoft Surface Tablet announced

RT version doesn't have stylus support either. We now know but during the presser they left that detail out until the end.

and there's still confusion about the resolution of the RT. 768p or 1080p? I'm not sure myself anymore.

But the overly shitty "specs" .PDF released by Microsoft states that directly. You know, the screenshot linked in the OP?
it's straight from Engadget. the RT does not support the stylus.

Engadget could be wrong, but they were at the event. Stands to reason they asked and that was the answer they received.

Sounds reasonable not including them.
Well without the accessories, the RT version is going to match 9 month old Android tablets as far as hardware is concerned.

Combine that with the fact that several Windows 8 tablets have already been announced, some with 1080p screens and $600, and yeah. It would be hard to charge $500 or more for the cheapest WindowsRT model.

720p is certainly usable, but people who are shopping for a tablet not called iPad will certainly be doing enough research and shopping around to find the best deal.

Pretty badass.

All these devices are geared (more or less) to serve us media. There's not much productive value inside despite Apple's attempts with things like Garage Band and iMovie for iPad.

Do you think at some point people will just stop making compelling things since the tools aren't that robust or even designed for production?

I don't think PCs for media creators will go away. But if all we're able to do as a society (more or less) on these devices is buy shit and share media -- and not make anything new or compelling -- it's a little sad.

What is the appeal to having steam on a tablet? You can't play many (any?) Steam games without a keyboard and mouse. So now you've plugged in a mouse, and have this floppy keyboard, which you need a hard surface on to use (and who knows how good the keyboard would be for gaming). You'd need to really dial down the graphics for a lot of games too, no?

I was confused back when Windows 8 was announced. I don't understand how anybody that has the minor interest in this can be confused today.

Sure, if you're regular Joe that can't tell the difference between iPad 2 and 3 like it was said earlier in this thread, I can understand.

The "Windows RT" version, the cheaper one, runs on an ARM processor. There's no way that Regular Computer Applications (like Steam, Photoshop, Games) will run on it.

The "Windows 8 Pro" version is an Intel processor, that runs both ARM Applications *AND* "regular computer applications".

It's not as hard as people make it out to be.

Thank you for this.

So this spec sheet is 100 percent clear?

WTF is full HD vs. HD ? LOL

Your average joe has no clue what the difference is between windows 8 and windows RT.

I'm still waiting for the 2 o 3 individuals who said they'd crap on a plate, eat it, and post it on youtube if the event bombed...where are they?

well the event didn't bomb, so why would that crap on a plate, eat it, and post it on youtube?

there we go.

HD is 768p.

Full HD is 1080p.

and that confirms no pen on the RT (you can feel free to apologize to him, drizzle). and USB 2.0 instead of 3.0.

Yep, the Pro version or nothing at all.

and there's still confusion about the resolution of the RT. 768p or 1080p? I'm not sure myself anymore.

So when Apple says "it's the fastest iPad yet", not revealing the proper speed of their CPUs, it's ok.

When Microsoft says one is "HD Display" and the other one is "Full HD Display", which I have 85% certainty that it clearly means one is 720p, the other is 1080p (Like, you know, fucking televisions? HD-Ready and Full-HD televisions?), they shot themselves in the foot?

How will the kickstand alleviate anything when you're holding it? That's my point -- if you have to rely on the kickstand and set it on a desk, why not just buy an Ultrabook? All the great tablet software will be designed as if you were holding the device. That's the whole point of owning a tablet. If you're not doing that then... why?

I'm not sure what the problem is . Its 2lbs . The first ipad was 1.6lbs . Is .4lbs really going to break your arm off ?

If its to heavy mabye it will improve your health by working your arms out a bit.

Are there ultrabooks with seemingly really good touch screens?

Then why I got my PDF from microsoft itself?

http://www.microsoft.com/global/surface/en/us/renderingassets/surfacespecsheet.pdf

The information is out there. Just take two seconds to look for it.

See now the trolling starts. What does this have to do with Apple?

marketing terms TV manufacturers have been using for the best part of 10 years

HD - 720p
Full HD - 1080p
All the tvs I buy say 720p or 1080p on the box. Where is this terminology?

I guess its fun to laugh at Zunes failures but the quality of the HD model was pretty damn boss IMO. And again, the standard ear buds are better than a majority that have become before and after.

See now the trolling starts. What does this have to do with Apple?

It wasn't about Apple, it was about the retarded double standards of forum posters who post FUD under the guise of feigning concern.

All the tvs I buy say 720p or 1080p on the box. Where is this terminology?

Everywhere that they sell televisions. HD / HD Ready vs Full HD has been around for years. People know what it means.

So when Apple says
didn't read any further. I have no idea why you're making these hyperbolic, straw-man arguments...but you can feel free to quote someone else with them, because I don't have the fucking patience.

We're having a fairly objective and rational conversation right now. If that's too much for you to handle, don't quote us. Thanks.

It's not trolling. It's an example.

The other example being HD-Ready Televisions and Full-HD Televisions.

I shit you not, I can go outside right now and buy an HD-Ready television that has 1024x768 as it's screen native resolution.

For some people, it always has to do with Apple.
Like I wasn't even talking about Apple. Why are we going there. People just go there assuming its an easy out "but apple does this or that"

We always want to know how much ram is in the new iPad. Not sure how this is any different. We always want to know the specs on the processors and the pixel count on the screen.
