No chance. They even called it an accessory.

What I really want to know is what kind of connectivity Surface will have with the Xbox 360 or future Xbox console? As it is I'm more interested in the Lenevo Yoga and the Asus TaiChi for power and functionality.
They said it will be included but not how all the different color combos will work.
Really? I did not hear that.

I don't think MS is handling this launch very well. They announce it way too early, and they don't provide two key infos: Price and Battery life, leading people to speculate like mad, and allowing a large segment to dismiss it by assuming it will be too expensive and/or have crap battery life.
MS took a huge que from Apple on industrial design, they really need to learn how Apple announces new products as well.
Also, for god sake, find somebody more charismatic than Ballmer to present your products, he makes Don Mattrick look like Clark Gable.
And if it was they would make a big deal about how they are including it with every device, this will be like the Smart Cover and be a profitable accessory most people who buy the tablet will get.
I can see a scenario where the keyboard is bundled with the Pro version but not the RT. Makes sense, and another key differentiator between the two SKUs. I imagine the keyboards will be packaged separately and you'll just choose which color you want at checkout.
Apple products consistently have the highest customer satisfaction numbers. People have a better experience with their macs than with any other competing brand.TDIL people think it's ludicrous to value performance over branding.
One of the liveblogs must have mistakenly reported that the cover/keyboard was included, becuase a ton of people (myself included) seem to be under that impression. I can swear I remember reading that somewhere! But now that I go back and watch the actual video of the event, I can't find anyplace they claim that the cover will be in the box.
Some activities call for a keyboard. Surface comes with an integrated Kickstand and a revolutionary, 3mm thin, pressure sensitive cover that doubles as a fully functioning keyboard and trackpad. Your Touch Cover connects to your Surface with a single magnetic click. Now you can chat with friends and respond to emails comfortably.

Hardly confirmation but by the way it's written on the Surface website, it seems like a keyboard/cover is included.

I guess they could bundle the black (or whatever neutral color) touch cover with all SKUs and let the user buy additional colors of their choice.
With a cover in the box that's four different hardware models, coming in four colors, possibly with two distinct types of covers.
Unless confirmed, I'm highly skeptical one will be included.
I'd be amazed if the keyboards weren't universal across RT and Pro versions. Why would the keyboard need to be different? If they include a keyboard with either version, wouldn't they then have to create seperate SKU's for the two different types of keyboards?

Thanks, that answers my question. That was demonstrated in the unveiling.

I think one of us is confused over what's being discussed here (and it's probably me).I'd be amazed if the keyboards weren't universal across RT and Pro versions. Why would the keyboard need to be different?

I guess they could take it back at any time, but that reads pretty definitively to me.
Hmmm, or not. I guess you could read it either way.
See, Apple would never confuse me like this!
Are you guys suggesting that every surface will come with the flat keyboard, and people who want the raised keys will have to buy that cover separately?
The fuck? They look nothing alike other than...being rectangles.

THIS WEEK IS ALL ABOUT SURFACE. ANOTHER MUST LISTEN.
Also did anyone catch a few weeks ago when Horace was breaking down the differences in how people consume bicycles based on the infrastructure/convenience of certain locales? It was steller.
Quote:
Horace and Dan look at Microsofts Surface through disruption colored lenses. First, the ongoing evolution of the computing value chain and how it foretold us of Surface. Second, how the economics of Microsofts businesses makes Surface compelling. We also begin a new segment tentatively called Reader Questions. This time its education: is it disruptable? If so how can we tell and where will it lead us?

Microsoft's Mike Anguilo described the Windows 8 Pro (x86) version of the Surface with one line that resonates with me: "[it has] specs that rival those of the finest ultrabooks that have ever been announced."
