[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

I guess this confirms Red/Blue only for NA.

Let's look into this further though...what, in terms of a business or marketing standpoint, is preventing these companies from wanting to release White systems in US/EU?

Japan gets white fat AND slim PS2...
NA gets black only. No white for NA/EU.

Japan gets white fat AND slim PS3...
Nothing for NA. Black only.

Japan gets white PSP...
No white for NA/EU.

Japan gets white DS...
No white for NA/EU.

Japan gets white 3DS...
No white for NA/EU.

And many more examples.

At least Sony is finally doing right with the white Assassin's Creed 3 bundle Vita releasing this Fall. But if it's special bundle only and not mainline color, then it's really just the same crap that's been going on with a minor exception.

I think it needs glossy finish on these new 3DS cuz it doesn't look right to me. It's too plain, dull and boring.

It's gonna be a looonnnnngggggggg azz wait for what we want if Nintendo gives in due to our demands.

It's funny when you think about it:

"Hey Nintendo, that Black WiiU looks nice."
"Sorry, only white at launch."

"Hey Nintendo, that white 3DS XL looks nice."
"Sorry, Japan-only."

My completely uninformed conjecture is that XL was going to have a right stick, but it was scrapped after 3DS sales picked up. The main reason I think this is that the same source for the insane CCP rumor also said a revision would be coming in early 2012. We got the revision, but no stick.

There was never going to be a second stick. If adding a second stick was that important to Nintendo they would have actually sold the CCP at all retail stores instead of a small release at Gamestop and on their website.

This is the same mess the PSP went through last generation. Every single revision had people up in arms about a mythical second stick. It didn't happen then, and it isn't going to happen now.

Do want! Man, I drool thinking about what SM3DL and OoT look like on that baby. Shame there's no second analog slider though and I hope they fixed the hinge problem otherwise I'll be less likely to get it someday.

I don't really care about the non-ideal colors that much, but are we really stuck with the same terrible stylus and dpad positions? Dpad especially annoys me, playing anything with it was very uncomfortable back when I rented my 3DS. Really thought Nintendo would fix these issues in the revision, bleh.

No white for the US? Well, I guess I'll have to wait. Probably a good thing considering my budget for video games this fall was stretched as it was. White 3DS XL on day one, though.

That's certainly possible.

But at the same time, I think it's just possible that the announcement of the Monster Hunter-adapting Circle Pad Pro came at the wrong time of the 3DS sales disaster/price cut/Ambassador program, and it got made out to be a much bigger deal than it was.

It really may have just been the sequel to the Monster Hunter-concession of the Classic Controller Pro on the Wii, but it came at a time when everyone was chanting "doom! hardware revisions!"

Yeah, the limited release of the Circle Pad Pro really makes me think that Nintendo always saw it as a niche add-on, and not the "new vision for 3DS" as it was made out to be by the media and fans.

Admittedly it's more legitimate here because they actively created the add on, it'd seem like the next step would be making it standard and throwing a switch on there for single nub or dual nub. Though I guess instead the 3DS gets to have "how about a higher resolution version?" for a hardware revision that'd break the base in a terrible way.

Woah, didn't think they'd announce something like this at a Nintendo direct.

Well, will buy. I've been asking for a 3ds xl for a while.

Might trade my old 3DS in to get this.

But man... why isn't the White one coming to NA? I don't get it!!! Japan always gets the nice colors :(

Black is the only good looking choice.

Japan also got a white Gamecube.

And of course the launch orange.
Hey, how about an orange 3DS, Nintendo? You seem to like bright colors. Candy red and blue, how about a better one.

Wait, NA only gets red or blue? Are you fucking kidding me?

No second stick
Kindergarten red and blue only.

What is wrong with this stupid company?
I feel the same way about these two things. I was initially pretty hyped, but I think I can wait another 18 months until the next revision. The saddest part in all of this is the fact that I still won't be able to play Revelaitons.

Maybe this isn't the best place to ask, but if I buy an eshop game on my 3ds, and then run out of room on my sd card, how the fuck do I move it? There's no account so isn't it gone forever once I delete it?

GameStop is probably going to do some special "trade-in your old 3DS for more value toward a 3DS XL" kind of sale.

I bet the 3D is going to look nice on the larger unit.

I wouldn't mind getting one but in all honesty, I haven't even used my current 3DS since before the Vitas launch.

I wonder what the CC Pro XL will look like.
I'm kind of hoping they switch from that "portruding out the side" design to something like folding the stick itself over the empty space under the buttons, that way it's a bit closer to a natural addition.

Or maybe they'll keep it small 3DS exclusive, thus making it worthwhile to keep both on hand.

Deleted content can be re-downloaded multiple times on the same hardware.
You can also copy-paste content from the SD Card to your computer.

What games besides RE even use the second analog stick?

This thread is such a broken record for something that shouldn't even matter. I want games that are suited to what the system offers anyway.

..Wait... there won't be an all black version?

It's either the tacky pastel red/black or the tacky pastel blue/black for the US?

I usually never care about the color of systems, but I think I'll just wait (lol).

Man are those colors tacky. SMH.

I'll keep my glorious Zelda 3ds. Good on the battery life being upped for this atleast, though I'll likely get the nyko battery circle pad when that releases. The actual revision looks really ugly to me.

If only there was some sort of add-on that old 3DS owners could get...

Don't under-estimate the stupidity of the general public. The same general public who caused an outcry in the UK because the Expansion Pak was needed for Majora's Mask - the same general public who asked me repeatedly, every fucking day in my store, whether 3DS games would work on their DS Lite, and then not being able to understand the concept of why they would need to buy a 3DS.

It'd be an absolute clusterfuck. The 3DS didn't come with one originally, so that is fucking that. Nintendo are not going to segment the 3DS owning population.
