[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

Can not resist..will buy! Anyone know if the AC adapter will be the same the 3DS has? I cant beleive Nintendo is not including it!

You in america? IT WILL BE IN THE BOX.

You outside of america? It won't be in the box. Buy it separately or use a DSi/3DS one.

Because:

It'd fragment the existing 3DS owning population. A revision with a second stick would result in games being developed for it, which the majority of the market would not be able to play. The CPP is hardly widely available, and even if it was, other add-ons in the past such as Motion Plus and the N64 Expansion Pak prove that it would cause customer confusion and fragmentation of not only the consumers, but of the developers too.

It's never going to happen. Give it up, seriously.

And don't forget CPP isn't just a 2nd stick, but 3 more triggers.

Just imagine trying to make a 4 trigger handheld that is slim yet still 'useable'.fuck.

Yeah, and fragmenting the GBA or DS populations with the release of the SP or DSi really had a negative effect... those who adopted early can go buy a CPP.
There's tons of ways they could handle it -- but it seriously makes the most sense to redesign and add those -- you already made it bigger... make it a little thicker or something, I know I won't mind.

Those didn't add new control methods to the systems for currently existing games.

nintedo why? just give us the second stick. there is so much fucking SPACE on the right side lol....
From their perspective, why spend all that money on producing units with a second stick when only 4 games make use of it, and 0 are announced for the future as using it? It would literally just sit there and you would never use it.

derp?

Did the SP or DSi introduce physical gameplay features that stopped new retail games from working on the original launch units without bulky add-ons? No, I didn't fucking think so.

the 3D light (to the side of 3d slider) and the camera one (the purple one)

oh...well, the 3D one is a shame, i dont know if ive ever even noticed a purple one though. i just watch the streetpass, you've a friend online one, and the power one for when it's dying.

So not only does Europe get this an entire month before the US, but they can't even give every region the same colors?

I'm so sick of them making colors region exclusive, like it's somehow difficult to slap a different shell on a product.

It's also kind of BS.

Like, do we really think that Japanese like White, Europeans like Silver, but North Americans like Red and Blue?

Of course not.. it's some arbitrary bullshit made by whoever happens to be in charge in those territories.

The CPP is a little bit different than that.

*sigh*

Really Nintendo? Come on, where's the 2nd stick and battery improvement with the same form factor as the original.

OMG! I can do this? Now I'm going to end up buying one you glorious bastard.

Yep. I'm doing this:

1. Transferring all my stuff to either my sister or my girlfriend's 3DS.
2. Trading in my 3DS for an XL.
3. Transferring all my games onto my new console.

It'll take up an extra transfer...but hey, it'll save me a lot of money, and the 3DS XL looks like a long-term purchase.

Well, that's that I guess. I wonder how Sony feels about this.

"Yay Vita sells 37k because of the awesome Persona 4 the Golden!"
Nintendo: "Hey guys here's the 3DS XL lol"
"... ... ... oh come on"

If it's under £200 in Europe, I'll buy one day one. Battery life and screen size are my two biggest peeves about the 3DS at the moment.

Damn they got me. Nintendo finally got me. They gave me everything I wanted except a second stick, but I can live with that. I'll bite. How much is an adapter? Is it the same adapter as the DSi?

Nintendo doesn't care about the CPP, we were never gonna get a 3DS with it. I remember reading about it in early 3DS docs, Nintendo was only going to release it if there was third party interest, similar to how they originally said they would look into the Wii-U having 2-Gamepad support in case a third party developer wanted to support it, and even then one system owner would have to take his controller to a fruend's house. Notice all the support Nintendo has given the CPP - they didn't advertise it, they only sold it at one retail store, they only shipped a few of them to each store. They added support for it to one of their games, but only for left-handed play.

Which would have been a good thing.

No. It most certainly wouldn't have.

Good for maybe a few gamers. Fucking horrendous for retail, existing casual consumers (like it or not, they make up the majority of the 3DS owning population now), and for developers (develop for the extra stick and exclude almost all the market, or play it safe?).

*sigh*

Really Nintendo? Come on, where's the 2nd stick and battery improvement with the same form factor as the original.

Have you seen the insides of a 3DS? There is no room for a larger battery, and the existing battery is where the internals for a second stick would be. The 3DS is basically a solid brick, with no spare room for anything more. It is as optimized as possible without adding a couple hundred or more to the price. Or making it bigger, which they did here.

Meh, I'm gonna stick with my current 3DS I think. Only thing that I really like about this revision is the improved battery life.

Plus, it's not exactly pretty...

Will upgrade.

That d-pad + buttons better be improved or else someone will be watching me take a bite out of their still-beating heart.

So much for my ambassador games.

Do I have this right?

Japan gets

Silver/Black

Red/Black

White

EU gets

Silver/Black

Red/Black

Blue/Black

and the US only gets

Red/Black

Blue/Black

*sigh* NoA...

I'm not as angry as I was when SP and Lite were released. It's not an improved 3ds with better features, it's a different model that fulfil different expectations. I'm keeping my 3DS.

This doesn't come out as a surprise though.

Yknow, the more i look at this thing, the more I realize playing games like Kid Icarus will actually be easier on this thing (barring a dramatic weight increase) the problem wasn't the weight of the system, it's that you couldn't get more than a few fingers under it while controllling it properly. It's pretty clear that won't be a problem with this enormously increased size.
