[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

Well, I said I'd wait until the first redesign, but I wasn't expecting it to be more expensive! Still, the library is pretty good now and I've been getting the urge to play Pokemon recently (no longer have a DS) so I think I'll bite. That thing is pretty ugly though, I might see if I can pick up the old model on the cheap. Not including a charger (in europe) is insane. What's the digital download situation like on the store, can I download the Mario games or do I still need to carry around a bunch of carts?

Well I was holding out for a revision, but with no adaptor, poor colours and ever so slightly battery life I'll pass thanks. #gamecharger

Why would they not release the Silver for NA, but for other regions?

I want the silver one or would settle for black.

I'm with you. My excitement over this announcement has been deadened by the lack of said color choices in NA. I hope the color options change in a short order.

I want to sell my 3DS now for maximum profit to go towards an XL. But I don't want to lose my Ambassador status.

Any advice GAF?
Wait and see if you can transfer your ambassador status to the XL and if you can, buy it, transfer and sell your 3Ds

I think it might be the right time to buy one, but I have a few doubts concerning how the same resolution will look on a bigger screen........and of course......no AC charger in Europe? WTF are they thinking.

Seeing as the 3DS launched with 2 colours and has had over a dozen variants and themes in little over a year, if the exact colour you want isn't available, it probably will be relatively shortly.

I'm holding out for a completely matt black one, I can see that being fairly high up the list of colours to come.

And it's matte too.

I have been looking into getting a 3DS or PSV for a while. I can say this was not the system revision I was hoping for.

Concerns:
1.) No second analog controller
2.) The scratch-able bottom screen concerns have not ben addressed
3.) The resolution at the size.

The screens size might look good, and my concerns might be for naught; however, why wasn't 1 and 2 addressed?

Nintendo is so stupid. Don't understand the point without higher resolution( unless it affects the game programming) and thumb pad. Hopefully this version doesn't scratch your screen when you close it.

Wouldn't a higher resolution mean it would affect the performance of every 3DS games released until now?

The new 3DS XL seems really nice.

My biggest technical regret is that Nintendo didn't make the 3DS top screen pixel resolution double that of the regular DS. The Vita and iOS 'retina' screens have shown that this avoids a lot of hassle.

Any dimensions and weight?

Also people expecting a second slide pad got burned. I wonder if Nintendo devised someway to better integrate a redesigned circle pad pro for the machine?

Nice to hear about a new 3DS but I would not call this a revision but just a larger model, so my interest isn't that much higher, a larger top screen will help a tiny bit with 3D viewing angles at least.

Also with price comparisons don't forget UK pay 20%, so really take 20% away from our price.

That's why they probably can't achieve a higher resolution with the current hardware, they would need a GPU clocked at a higher frequency and more frame buffer memory, hence they're leaving it the same.
Unfortunately if it looks like shit, the bigger screen is pointless.
We'll see with future hands-on on the product, I hope they have chosen a good screen and introduced good filters which can partially offset the lower dpi.

The lack of the second analog pad is a missed opportunity, but this does look nice.

It doesn't effect the programming, but it would not be smart to bump up the resolution without bumping up the specs to support the higher resolution.

Nah older titles would still be rendered in their original resolution.

So a barely better battery, still no second stick meaning you still have to buy a stupid accessory which will go underused and no charger in EU.

No thanks.

Some disappointments here and there, but I'll still be getting one. I was hoping for a little bit more of a redesign and less of a "let's make this shit huge," but I do appreciate the size difference.

Now if only white was releasing in North America.

Yes. That's why i stated that it might affect the games. Still, no second thumb pad is nonsense. Especially after the peripheral they released.

Not including a charger is cheap Nintendo. It seems to be their way to recoup some costs thx to shitty exchange rate for them. But I don't like hidden costs.

If you want Atlus games: US version
If you want Nintendo-published games: EU version
If you want both: Japanese version
That's enough a reason for me to get the US version.

The Japanese one is out of the question as I don't understand the language.
