If the second stick were coming, it'd be on this thing. Guess this is the one I'll be buying, then.
Nintendo handheld redesigns always match or raise previous pricepoints though.well at least the same price, redesigns by design are a way of manufacturers to streamline their production even further so price drop with a redesign is a reasonable expectation. yes i know the 3ds did get a massive price drop.
What were the regular 3DS or even DSi trade in promos like? I don't think they were as low as £40. Even for DSi>XL.I'll give them my 3DS and £40 for this XL. I would have went a little higher if there was a second analogue slider.
If the trade in price is any higher than that, then they can get stuffed. (well, I'll still be tempted)
I assume it'll be like the DS/DSi/DSiXL too many chefs in the kitchen rather than a DS DS Lite phase out. Given the $200 price point.does this mean i can pick up a purple 3ds on ebay for 100 soon?.
Retailers (and NOE via wholesale price) hold the cards here but did the relative price difference hamper the DSi quite a bit. Okay so this a "mere" 38% more* rather than 50% more**. But these are far cries from the 17% more it is in America.£180 seems reasonable.
Well, I meant the size, obviously I can not recreate the real aspect of the game.wrong! for starters, it won't become blurry at all; to be more precise, you can't imitiate how the games will look like on it using pictures, because both will be displayed on a screen with the same ppi
¥1500 for an AC adulator? As for the justification of "keep the price down" what about not putting a 4GB SD card in (or having more internal space rather than the external that will get upgraded)...then again the SD card is a proxy to getting people to people using the eShop for game downloads and if it came with no SD card people would not bother to get games while if they got some...anyway back to point.
Any word on whether the actual 3D is better? Viewing angles, etc.

Not necessarily.
I'd think if a second stick was coming, it'd be on the 3DS Lite or 3DSi or whatever similar size and form factor model intended to actually replace the 3DS. Not for the more to love model.
Anyway, it's funny that way back when the CPP was announced, there were people convinced that it was the precursor to an eminent redesign and that every game from now on would use it, and then there were people who said "Yeah, it's the Monster Hunter Peripheral, like 5 games will use it and then nobody else." And now it's been months since the CPP was revealed and I don't think a single game outside of the originally announced batch has been announced to support it. So, yeah, it's pretty clear which way the wind was blowing!!
I mean, Nintendo could still throw a second stick on some future model. It's possible. But with the CPP a novelty and the 3DS actually coming into its own, it should be kiiiinda obvious at this point that the belief in a second stick on a revision was the product of a message board echo chamber amplifying fantasy into plausibility.
It is pretty shocking, there must be quite a lot of cheap DSi chargers out there to use though. They'd better make it very clear on the packaging that it doesn't come with a charger in EU.
So what happens with the circle pad pro and the XL? I realize that the current will not fit (obviously) but will they be making a circle pad pro XL to go with this? I really want the XL, but I may have to hold onto my launch 3DS and the cpp. Capcpom spoiled me with RE:R.
It's really weird to me that they wouldn't throw a second analog on there.
I don't believe the user base fragmentation argument for a second. They're fragmenting the user base by NOT including a second analog, since dual-analog support is possible with the original 3DS but not with the 3DS XL. Although support for the CPP was probably killed off by this announcement anyway so in a way, it's a moot point.
I do think this model looks way better than the original, which was a serious eyesore, and I anticipate that it's more comfortable to play as well.

The following games were announced to support the CPP when it was revealed:
MH3G
Kid Icarus
Resident Evil Revelations
MGS3D
KH3D
Dynasty Warriors VS
Ace Combat
Since then, not a single game has been announced to support it. The only one, off the top of my head, that will probably do that is Monster Hunter 4, or any further Capcom releases since it's pretty much their peripheral at this point.
If they announced a revision with a second stick now, they'd essentially be mandating that all future releases support a nearly dead peripheral that received limited releases in at least one major territory.
Yeah, it sucks that the 3DS doesn't have a second stick. But the time for it to have one was back at E3 2010.
If it's the same PPI, that means the pixels are just larger, right? Shouldn't that be possible to imitate?
If user base fragmentation were their primary concern, the 3DS XL would have a built-in dual analog: original 3DS owners could always get the CPP if they wanted to play a game that required dual analogs.
Oh man, I totally want the bigger screens if that's how big they are. The current 3DS screens don't do Kid Icarus justice.
On the subject of battery life, has anyone else not had massive problems with it? I've only really drained it with full sound, full brightness, full 3D and wireless on. If I put it in power saving mode, on brightness 3, wearing headphones and 3D off (for travelling), I've had it last a 4 hour round trip losing only 1 bar of battery in that time.
In general, power saving mode seems to only desaturate the colours slightly? I'm not sure entirely what it does.
That's fugly. I hope it's not that bad. If so no 3DS for me until Revision 3.
BTW does the 3DS revision 2 have TV out?
you shouldn't bother getting this. there'll be a better version of the 3DS along in a couple of years give or take.
What you're describing is the definition of user base fragmentation.
No, the fact that original 3DS owners can use features that 3DS XL owners cannot is user base fragmentation.
If the 3DS XL had a second analog, early adopters would not be locked out. As it stands, 3DS XL owners are locked out from certain games' functionality. Which one of these seems like user base fragmentation to you?
Yes, but it's a fragmentation that would still allow dual pad/trigger games to be played by all if they chose. They way it is now is even more fragmented, XL buyers won't even have the option. What you're describing is the definition of user base fragmentation.
The one where users of the original have to buy a new model or a dead peripheral to play a not-insignificant number of new games.

First of all, it wouldn't be a "dead" peripheral if the 3DS XL had a built in analog. Games would still be announced with CPP support because more games would have dual-analog support.
And yes, there would be slight fragmentation, you'd have to pay like 20 extra bucks or something if you wanted to play a game with dual-analog and didn't have a CPP already. But by comparison, the current setup is WAY more fragmented -- 3DS XL owners will not have the option of playing with dual analogs.
so they confirmed there won't be a CCP XL?

Is this clear enough?
