Are there any DSi XL 3DS XL comparison images?

Has anyone done a comparison to the size of the Vita yet?

One thing bothers me - why the upper part of new 3DS isn't concave like in its predeseccors. Won't the screen be more affected to scratches?

So my current Nintendo handheld is a launch day DS and I haven't had anything else since then. Will this things screen pretty much be the best Nintendo has to offer by the time B&W2 come out?

They should do another ambassador thing for people who already own a 3DS. Provide proof of purchase of both original 3DS and the XL and get sent a code to be able to download like 10 games or something.

Wouldn't really hurt their bottom line at all and would encourage people to upgrade.

I honestly don't know why Nintendo and Sony don't do something like this. Give away some PSP and/or PS1 ROM downloads with every Vita and some old NES and Gameboy games with every 3DS purchase.

Doesn't affect their bottom line and provides extra value to the buyer.

Good idea. I agree.

Can't you prove you bought it through your Nintendo Club account? If so, it would be a lot easier proving it to them without having to mail the UPC in.

If you're only interested in Black and White 2 and care a lot of screen quality, you're going to be playing the games in 1:1 mode. DS games look blurry and washed out when scaled. So the screen should be fine, but you're viewing area will probably only be about the size you're used to with the original DS.

It seems silly to buy an older system when the new one is out, but if you really are only interested in those two games you may be happier with a DSi or XL.

PSP games might be cool for Vita, but I don't think very many people give a crap about NES and GameBoy games. And it does affect their bottom line since they could be charging for it. What you're proposing is like saying "A serving of a soft drink only costs McDonald's a fraction of a cent, so why don't they just give free soda to anyone who brings in their own cup? It wouldn't hurt their bottom line and it would encourage people to eat at McDonald's."

It has always been like that.
Companies don't mind about early adopters, but look for ways to entice new adopters with new games, bundles and reduced prices. Heck, Nintendo probably did the ambassador thing to save face and because it's a new hardware on which they have huge expectations; more than anything. Contrary to when Sony released the PSP Go, they were giving sometimes up to 10 digital games; but early adopters only got Rock Band Unplugged.

It would be cool, and it is possible. For example, Nintnedo originally gave out Nintendo Points when you registered a DSi; so you could use those point into buying something from the online store.

Seriously? Wow, I didn't realise it was so big. Awesome.
Even a modest increase can make a huge difference. DSi's really not that much larger screen-wise than the prior two DS models, but it made the PSP seem from huge to just mildly bigger... mostly owing to being widescreen.

3DS XL weighs more than DSi XL? Looks like I won't be getting one then. DSi XL was horrible to play, for me. My wrists started hurting after holding it for more than 10 minutes. It was like holding a brick.

I actually liked the weight of the XL. It feels very tough, resilient, and bold, just by picking it up.

For the 3XL, I wonder how easy it'll be to keep your hands steady for the 3D effect to work with the heavier system. Probably no big deal for me, since I'm not sensitive to accidental shifts in 3D.

Why does everyone like the bigger screen? I've never used the ds XL, but for anything monitor/tv related I also prefer the largest resolution to the smallest screen size. To a certain degree of course, I'm assuming the games are all the same reso across both 3DS systems so won't that make it look worse scaling it to a larger screen? (Think older iphone games running on the ipad)

For the DS, a lot of games were 2D, meaning that bigger pixels meant more awesome pixel art. Plus, touch screen games and drawing applications were way better. Flipnote Studio is godly on it.

For the 3DS, most games are in 3D, so no 2D advantage there, but the 3DS is still very young (more 2D games will be coming). Plus, drawing tools like Colors! 3D are guaranteed to be awesome on the 3XL.

Except this isn't an upgrade, it's not better than the original 3DS nor is it meant to be a replacement. Nintendo has no need to seduce existing 3DS owners into buying the XL. And of course, the fact that they are selling GBC and NES games means that giving them away to everyone would most definitely affect their bottom line. And already has, due to the Ambassador program I already have The Legend of Zelda on my 3DS, I won't be buying it this summer.

I already bought the Legend of Zelda once, then got it again for preorder of WW on Gamecube. I won't be paying $5 of an NES ROM, so they aren't losing any bottom line with me because I was never going to pay their insane prices to begin with. (I can get Shining Force on iphone for $1. $5 is highway robbery Nintendo.)

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking $5 per ROM is a ripoff so there is no bottom-line effect in giving the content away to entice the hardware sale.

And you don't think a sticker on the box saying "buy now and you will also get 5 free game downloads" would possibly entice someone to be more likely to pull the trigger?

I want to see some footage of DS games running on the XL. I hope it doesn't look that bad. I really hope they image fit on the screen, but I doubt it.

If you want to stick just to DS games, DSiXL is awesome and way better than original phat in any conceivable way to the extent that playing the same games on it would feel like a completely different experience, otherwise at this stage I would think about purchasing a 3DS/3DSXL instead, even though not the best solution for DS games it's the newest hotness with many games ahead to come on it in the foreseeable future.

Oh, they put the pen back on the side again? Nice, I still get mixed up sometimes when switching between ds and 3ds.

Sorry, if this has been asked before, but does it include a big size pen as well, like the dsi xl?

The dsi xl is fantastic and I'm looking forward to the 3ds xl. Definitely picking up a white one next month.

"If they won't buy it, then we might as well give it to them."
"If we give it to them, some of them might have bought it."

A free NES game isn't going to sell systems, but system sales will bring about additional VC sales. I would imagine that, at $5 a ROM, the profit margins must be enormous.

That's because you think of games as files you can just load into ZSNES and call it a day. Nintendo actually resubmits the games to the ESRB (costs money) and their emulators certainly didn't appear out of nowhere for free. 5$ is a lot for a game that originally came out for 50-60$? Do you go into game shops and ask them why they just don't put all their NES carts down to 1$?

The two little bumps at the top of the device must be there to keep the screen from eing scratched when the 3DS XL is closed.

Does anyone remember the title of that thread where people posted pictures of the interior of 3ds game boxes, showing how the European and Japanese releases had little art work inside (that could be seen through the holes in the eco-friendly boxes)??

I'm very conflicted. I really need to see and hold the device before I make a decision. And I'm not crazy about the color choices that the US is getting. I prefer white or at least single colors over the two tone treatment. If they had done an XL version of that cobalt blue unit that Japan got I would be all over it but I'm not loving the initial colors. I may hold off until the next colors arrive.

I have some questions regarding system transfers. My current situation is as such: I own a DS Lite, DSi and a 3DS. I prefer playing DS games on my DS Lite, but I have my DSi to play DSiWare games on. I don't like how DS games are scaled on the 3DS and 1:1 mode is too small so I don't want to transfer my DSiWare games to it. However, I think I will like playing DS games on a 3DS XL in 1:1 mode because of the larger screen.

So what I would like to do is transfer my DSiWare games to my current 3DS now. Then trade my DSi to Gamestop to get the trade bonus towards a 3DS XL. Then when the XL comes out, I want to transfer everything on my current 3DS, including the recently transferred DSiWare games, to the XL and give my old 3DS to my wife. Is anyone aware of any issues with trying to do any of this?

I honestly can't understand how anybody anywhere thought there would be a second stick rendering all 3DSs sold up until now obsolete. Somebody explain why they would ever expect such a thing.

Well it's conceivable that Nintendo would do it with the caveat that developers would have to make their games playable on both the 2 slide pad configurations and the 1 slide pad configurations. (See: Revelations, Kid Icarus.) I'm not surprised they didn't though, it adds bulk and cost.

Really thinking about getting one of these. Need to see one in person before I make my decision though. I hope there are some trade-in programs for existing 3DSs. Also, are they making a bigger circle pad pro for this? Don't want to get one now and render it obsolete within a month or two.

And I don't think dual analogs got everyone screaming to make vita games either. The issue here is 4 TRIGGERS.

how the fuck do you do that?

Me too.

I definitely want to see my 3DS games on a bigger screen, but the XL looks so cheap in the press pics.
I really would've preferred something more like the DSi XL:

That shouldn't be a problem, but I think Nintendo only allows for X number of transfers. I think that number is 5. So you should be alright, but you'll be using 2 out of 5 lifetime transfers.

The Vita can't even properly emulate PS1 games because it has only two triggers.

Part of me accepts that Nintendos's vision of the 3DS has one stick and the frankenstick will be forgotten much like the OG rumble pack.

But part of me also thinks that with a bit more foresight the 3DS could have had some amazing WiiU functionality if they just put the second stick in from the get go.

hmmm... outside of pokemon, was there any real use of ds and wii connectivity?

Oh yeah, was the only way you could get demos lol.

Looking at all these pics...There's something on my mind.

The plastic frame of that bottom screen looks like its still subject to damage the upper screen, I mean, look at how it seems to pop-out. o_o

Just use a microfiber cloth, now you could probably just lay an entire one on, instead of folding it in half, or cutting it.

it's a bit hard to tell, but i do think the top 2 little bumps are suppose to lay on the bottom frame... or why else would they be there?

I think thats actually the initial reason for the backtouch existing
L2 = left side of backtouch, R2 = right side.
and left side of touchscreen = L3, right side = R3.

yeah, it's still not really ideal though. i haven't encountered a vita game where I haven't disabled the backtouch 'features' out of the gate.

I figured they would do something like that, MGS1 was unplayable on PSP. It's still frustrating for things like this to be SOOOOO close. The 3DS could have been a huger deal if it could ALSO be a WiiU controller. But now Nintendo is stuck in the Sony situation of being one stick short of doing anything really awesome.
