Given that WvW really won't have much time to get going in the space of 5 hours (or is it 6?), I'd just tinker with character creation. Remember to screen cap your settings so you can reproduce them later.

I'm likely going to spend a ton of time in there at launch... probably an unhealthy amount. And I know I'll probably bow up a bunch of characters before they get too far in the game too, because I'll find something about them I don't like.

They need an in-game dress house. So you can fix what you fucked up. But I see that being a cosmetic Trading Post item.

I guess I should clarify, I was speaking of forming an opinion as a whole on the game from a 4 hour stress test event, not just an opinion on the performance of the servers. I agree that the server tech appears pretty rock solid now and really shouldn't be anything to worry about.

That's it, back in the kitchen with you, not-Retro's-wife, and make me a sandwich...

Seriously though, I just meant that lag issues won't be souring anyone's opinion.

They're adding a Dressing Room function where you can preview armor and weapons... I'd like to see a Barber Shop for hair/facial hair color and style and a pricier "Cosmetic Surgery" option for height, body type, face, etc.

yeah, I'd love to see a barber shop too!

A guy pulled this model out of the .dat and then found the texture for it and stitched it:

Tyria(continent) is WAAAAAAAAAAY bigger than I ever imagined. The amount of space in the world they have is far more than I thought and they could create tons of new lore/races with that much room. Exciting.

...wow. That's amazing.

If a trait says "reduce cooldown of 'weapon skill' by x%", does that include the auto-attack?

Will I attack faster with the auto-attack skill? or maybe it's only the activate skills...

would have to check but I think the auto attack has a zero cooldown and finishes when the animation does?

My problem, and this is endemic to most MMOs, is that they always throw in hair styles that nobody but trolls use. Take the human male, for example; http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Human_male_hair_styles.png

Is anyone going to use 3rd row, 2nd column? The enormously comical 70's Afro? Why isn't there a hairstyle that's afro-like without being a HUGE LIGHTBULB?

Just for this, I'm going to make one of my characters use that damn afro - and you are going to love it!

The last one in the third row, the goofy mohawk?

Hey now. That one's what I used for Okiah. And he looked awesome. =|

Hah, the afro was my one of my first choices for my Elementalist,

I wonder what that landmass to the left is.

Agree, but the map of Tyria from GW1 is overlapped incorrectly if you ask me, just look at the northern Shiverpeaks and the island above the GW1 section, its clearly the same island imho. If you start looking at the Tyria contient you see that the GW1 part is most of the bigger continent shown in the pictured, the GW1 part is just not stretched.
The Image seems to have the same issues that most other attempts to peace together GW1 continents, the maps simply don't overlay well enough.

Land masses do change - I'm assuming a few hundred years will change the landscape a bit - particularly around shorelines.

Thats the GW2 map if we are looking at the same picture here.

Extra so considering giant dragons lifting countries out of the seas, causing earthquakes and floods all over the land.

This is a bit of topic..
Sorry, didn't notice it was from GW2. My point still stands imho.

"Tyria(continent) is WAAAAAAAAAAY bigger than I ever imagined. The amount of space in the world they have is far more than I thought and they could create tons of new lore/races with that much room. Exciting."
I too hope that we will see more lore and races in the future.

Is anyone going to use 3rd row, 2nd column? The enormously comical 70's Afro? Why isn't there a hairstyle that's afro-like without being a HUGE LIGHTBULB? The last one in the third row, the goofy mohawk? Plus, how many surfer-looking Bieber cuts do we need (I count 5).

And yet there are only one or two that are more than shoulder length (one with silly looking braids). Only one with anything that can be called a pony tail. As for facial hair, how many douchebag staches does the game need? There's 3 of them in there. Where's a proper goatee that sticks down? Is the handlebar mustache really necessary?

This has been my problem with every MMO; they include options that nobody ever ever ever chooses unless they're trying to be silly or obnoxious. This goes double for females having tons of mohawks and shaven heads. Ugh. Lots of very short hair styles too, and maybe one or two that go past the shoulder (and one of them has that obnoxious 60's haircomb/bandanna/whatever in it).

Exactly. Why the hell isn't that an option?

That's just it, apart from maybe the first two hours of the first BWE (which they fixed lightning-quick) the game really hasn't had much in the way of latency issues. Performance issues yes, but server wise, this game is pretty solid.

You are 100% right.

And I agree completely about the troll bit too.

In some games I make my alt look as different or alternative as possible, but its hard to make them without looking retarded. I dont think highly of Aions customization because like Oblivion, it was difficult to make a decent looking character.

I actually love the human males. I think they are fantastic. my human male looks really cool and has this smirk and lots of details in the facial structure depending if taking damage, having a weapon out and all that.

I just get annoyed when I see my ideal face/hairstyle combo multiplied.. 5-10 times. some even by NPCs.

So many Lord Farens running around. or the spiky hairstyle! Believe its nr 2.

couldnt they take these popular hairstyles and make more variations of them. make an alternative version with braids/mma cut/a pony tail/unkempt/bandana(nightfall warrior hairstyle!) and so on?

that certainly would make people spread out more i think.

Yeah, I can definitely see some things that don't line up properly. The place you pointed out the worst of it. I'm going to assume the map pulled from the dat is just some old, out dated map that was never meant to line up right with the currently know GW2 map. Should they ever expand the game to cover all the extra land mass they'll fix it. It's not like they can't just completely change the landmass of the planet to line up right with a larger scaled version of the map we know now, since that land mass isn't actually known to players.

I'd like to see the original from the dat, without the GW2 map on top of it. Did it come with the GW2 map already on it, or did the guy who pulled it try to line it up?

Sounds like the Media Asset Kit is being released to press today, which is typically used in reviews. Release date imminent? o_0

Edit: Allister there has the link that I'm referring to but didn't indulge on what it might be. I think this is the media kit sent out to press for giving them coverage before release. I've got a little experience in that area, having done a bit of game journalism myself back in the day, and that's truly what it sounds like.

Don't reviews for MMOs usually come out a month or two after it releases? Or is that up to the reviewer?

Up to the org doing the review. The good ones wait, IMO. That said, the publisher usually has a date that they give press that they are allowed to publish their reviews after and not a day before. With that date frequently comes press resources like this. If they have a press release date, they have a street release date.

I'm seeing a lot of people speculating that the release date will be announced the day after the stress test, which is the day that the fabled jerseys indicated. Should be an interesting next few days either way.

Also they've just given the Blade & Soul release date which is set 5 days after announcing the date... (they announced release date today for a June 30th release)

This could be some indication towards how GW2 will handle things seeing as they are both published by NCSoft and i think they are keeping their cards close to their chest so to not allow Blizzard to undercut them with MOP.

The problem with launching before Mists is that if people don't like the game, they will play Mists. Launching after Mists people will be like ehh, but I have mists?

It's tough going against the giant.

But I have fully paid off my CE, so I know what game I'm playing :)

Wow? Fabled jerseys? What did I miss?

was posted last year which sparked a lot of speculation and then recently teased again on Anets pic updates of their offices a couple weeks ago.

I'm up for this, it was annoying finding players of comparable skill level.

PM me your username and we'll try sort something out, anyone else who's interested can do the same.

Also, from the new press kit: http://www.guildmag.com/wp-content/gallery/PressCBT/guild-wars-2-information-chart.jpg Pretty interesting.

It's just coverage most likely. MMO reviews, usually AAA titles, will usually go up 1-3 weeks after the launch.

So gw1 is finally past 7 million I remember when it was 6.5 mil a while back. That's about 1.75 mill per expansion. Pretty god damn impressive.

That kit probably just means another closed press beta is coming up. Maybe of high level zones this time.

As for the jerseys, ANet said this a while ago:

Eric Flannum said:
Those jersey's are actually a tradition we've had in our design department where if a member of our design team who had been there for a while leaves, we'd hang a "retired" jersey on the wall for them. They used to be really crude t-shirts with names and numbers drawn on in pen but when our soccer team had cooler jerseys made we decided to order some for them. The number is their last work day. Sorry to ruin any fun conspiracy theories but any relation between those numbers and any kind of date is entirely coincidental at best.

/stomps on hopes and dreams

Yeah I believe that explanation and had seen it elsewhere too. I don't think that's a complete stomping though - every instance of them releasing info and testing on things like this brings us one step closer to release. Showing off previously unreleased zones for two races and higher level areas means they are in a pretty good state now and "Soon" now means just that much "Sooner" ;)

I am ready for GW2...my hall is 50/50, when they released the Calculator I was at 39/50 took me some time to get the final 11 points, boredom was the main reason it took this long GW1 is boring, stale, and old...

I'm kinda split between this being another BWE or release date. On one hand, much more BWE and I will certainly have spoiled myself come release. But then again, it needs more time to get it in an ideal state. But it's not like the game is unplayable. I just think this is the last development time that will decide if this game is gonna get 8s and perhaps some 9s, or the game that will considered one of the best online games in recent memory.

It is to me already but I see the flaws for some folks. I expect very little from personal story as it is, and I am not sure I see a future in the dungeons. Catacombs is okay, but it.. catacombs ain't exactly the shit, is it? I mean they are pretty cool and its a instanced dungeon, but it's also just like - mandatory wow favorism, and I dont think they will be happy (because of nostalgia and thoughts of 40 man raids being the most fun ever).

Could it be the distortion from converting a round planet into a flat map? Kind of like how earth maps have lands being distorted/stretched the further away they are from the equator.

Just occured to me, i'm pretty sure i remember NCSoft saying in their investors call a couple months ago that Blade & Soul and GW2 would be releasing around the same time, or in the same quatre atleast. Seeing as Blade & Soul now has a release date of June 30th, this could be quite telling..

You and your August release belief. While it would be great if it was going for an August release, things happen and may change. Who knows when this game will release exactly other than ANet.

EDIT: Also, Q2 ends July. Q3 is August through October and Q4 is November and December. just so you know.
