Because if it is a major injury, it's pretty important it's noticed as soon as possible.

Whch is why you stop when it's serious (almost never). In our league only stops for head injuries or heart stopping (which has happened and the guy survived). That works just fine. They can play the ball out if there is no chance happening or the opponents get the ball. Will take less than one minute extra
