Yea, it's easy to say "well if this fails we'll just fight for singlepayer" but think of all the shit that needed to happen for this piece of shit to pass.

It wasn't Republicans who sank single-payer, it was good old boy Democrats like Ben Nelson, Joementum, and, apparently, Barack Obama. Republicans weren't going to vote for any healthcare bill. But Democrats had 60 votes in the Senate and this was the best they could do.

Unless someone seriously sees Dems getting 65-70 votes in the future, single-payer ain't happening any time soon.

10-15 of the democrats in the senate were basically pro-choice republicans. The amount of actual liberals, and I'm speaking only in the american political spectrum, was probably around 30. People like Nancy Pelosi and Al Franken would be in a centrist labor party in most countries. Bernie Sanders would be center/center-left.

PS: Single payer was never acutally on the table during the health care debates. A public option is not single payer. A medicare buy in is not single payer. Single payer would be taking an additional 3-5% out of everyone's paychecks in taxes and providing medicare for everyone. That was never on the table. Not in a single committee.

lol CNN, fucking hacks

Wow @ Roberts. I'm stunned.

Surely the blame lies in the camp of Obama, who has always held the principle of bipartisanship high (also prior to his presidency), and not by the republicans who are not actually proposing policy, but simply opposing any and all policy "from the other guy".

Anyone who has been paying attention to politics since 1992 should know that is exactly how Republicans have been "governing." They do not work with Democrats in good faith. They do not believe in the legitimacy of Democratic Presidents. That's how they operate. Krugman was writing about it in the New York Times in 2003. If Obama really thought his bipartisan shine was going to do a complete turnabout on the Republicans he was a fool.

What is the actual decision? Fox News and CNN are reporting the mandate was struck down yet SCOTUSBlog said it was Constitutional. Lol CNN and Fox FTMFL.
