Any gun owners lurking...

Just ordered a 6.5" SS Taurus 990 (.22 LR DA revolver) to help with my plinking needs from the LGS. There was a gun show in town but unsurprisingly, everything but remanufactured ammo was stupidly priced.

Instead of buying my first AR15 I decided to build one.

Just put together my lower tonight. Hopefully I'll have all the parts for the upper by next weekend.

Parts list.

Spikes Tactical Stripped Lower Zombie markings
Aluminum winter trigger guard. Don't remember the brand it was $13 on Amazon
Rock River Arms Lower Parts Kit
Rock River Arms 2 Stage Match Trigger
Del Ton Heavy Buffer. Tube and Spring Set
Magpul CTR Buttstock
Ergo Grip

Waiting for the upper parts to get here.

Rock River Arms Stripped Upper
Palmetto State Armory 16" Mid Length Chrome Lined Barrel
WMD Guns NiB-X Bolt Carrier Group
BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle
Troy Industries VTAC Alpha Rail 13"
Daniel Defense Front and Rear fixed Sights
Yankee Hill Machine Low Profile Gas Block
Armalite gas tube
Yankee Hill Machine Phantom Flash Hider

Here it is so far. The Lower was pretty easy over all.

That front pivot pin is a straight up bitch to put in!

Its done. Now I hope it shoots. lol.

I'm having one hell of a time locating a Ruger mark ii in good condition locally. I just can't bring myself to purchase a mark iii with chamber indicator. I don't like the fact that they cut a slot down the receiver. Besides being butt ugly, it's more prone to FTE or stove pipes. I guess nobody wants to sell, and if they do it's gone within a few days.

My father has a Ruger mark I that he bought in the 70s and that was the first pistol I learned on, so I'm used to the grip angle and workings of the mark series. That's the main reason I'm sticking with it, along with the fact that there is a lot of aftermarket parts for the ruger mark ii and iii.

Fair enough. Just curious. I do hope that you get what you're looking for, as shooting remains my favorite hobby and something I think more people should do regularly. :)

I Just bought a Windham Weaponry Model # R16M4A4T "MPC" . $874 on sale at Cabela's. If you know the name Bushmaster, then you know Windham Weaponry. Bushmaster was bought out by Cerebrus (aka "The Freedom Group"), as well as a few others like Marlin and Smith & Wesson, if I remember correctly. Well, John Dyke and crew at BFI were not satisfied with the way Cerebrus was running the QA of Bushmaster's rifles so they left under a 5 year no compete clause.

Enter 2011, John Dyke retained as many of his original workers as he could and they started up Windham Weaponry. The rifle is essentially the original Bushmaster 2.0. True M4 feed, aluminum trigger guard and tighter tolerances. It is a 1:9 right hand twist, set up for both .223 and 5.56 NATO ammunition, and came with one 30 round magazine (Steel stamped GI style), and a Diamond rear flip up aperture.

I compared an older Bushmaster with this new one and the updates are evident. I don't think I have seen such a tight fit on the upper and lower assembly...there is no wobble when these two assemblies are mated. I cannot wait to put some range time on this, however due to the summer pre-monsoon dryness in the Az desert, quite a bit of the public land is closed for shooting due to fire hazards. Which in turn means looong waits at the rifle ranges.

When I get my optics delivered on Tuesday, I will post a picture. I splurged and got an early birthday present for myself in the LaRue Aimpoint combo using the T1 front red dot with the 3X Magnafier rear with the LaRue side flip mount.

I did find an old beat up colt woodsman target model at the LGS. The bluing is almost completely gone and there is a small flat spot on the barrel where someone sanded out some pitting. They're incredibly accurate, and has a similar grip angle along the lines of a Luger. I was going to make an offer on it because I think I can get it incredibly cheap, but then I read that original mags can cost between $50-100 a piece. Also, a woodsman target model can bring over $1000 if it's in great condition. $2000 unfired.

Here is my Windham Weaponry with LaRue mounts and Aimpoint T1 front with the 3X mag on the rear. The Front LaRue mount is an absolute coexist with the T1 and the rear is a flip out mount for the 3X Mag and is their short mount for that optic.

I plan on replacing the grip, as this style is really small in my hands. I have no intention to replace the front stock with any rails, I like to keep it simple.

Taking this rifle shooting on Sunday, so I am pretty excited to get the optics zeroed in and see what it can do.

That is a very large weapon.

.44 or .357?

.22 duh.

I can't read.

Holy fuck, that barrel alone must negate any form of recoil :lol

Yea - it's a .22LR, so the recoil wasn't going to be significant anyway. I picked it up for cheap plinking and there aren't a whole lot of long-barreled choices in a DA .22 revolver, and I like Taurus guns anyway. It weighs just shy of 3 pounds, which is hilarious for such a small caliber - I think it might be deadlier as a club than a firearm. :P

Finally found a nice Ruger mark ii, I had to drive 75 miles to pick it up but it was worth it. He bought it over ten years ago, shot one box of 50 rounds through it, cleaned it, and put it in the safe. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it's a Government Target model with a 6 7/8" bull barrel. I broke it down when I got home and it still had the cosmoline on 90% of it. Basically, brand new. The Government models had to meet military spec of 1 1/4" 10 shot group at 25 yards or better. The group on the target included with the gun can be covered by a dime.

Shooting beer cans off of a fence post 100 yards out with iron sights, priceless. Pics may come later, she's beautiful.

Here's the PPSH-41 I bought 6 months ago. I finally had the opportunity fire it at a friend's ranch yesterday. It was fantastic. The cyclical rate was at least 900rpm. We burned through all 1,000 rounds in a matter of minutes. Very simple to strip and clean.

How much do the drum mags cost for those? Capacity?

Oh wow - that's way cool, and I find myself super jealous. :)

Gunbrokers website usually have them for $30+. They hold 71 rounds, but tend malfunction when filled to capacity. I just filled them up to 68. The box mag, shown with the pic, holds 35 and is much easier to load. However, I prefer the drum mags. The Papasha just looks so much cooler with them on. :)

So, im excited. Just got in a genuine 1986 Russian Krinkov parts kit for my next SBR project. Even has the Soviet star engraved in the front block. Let the class III paperwork wait, begin. This one's gonna be a tough wait : /

Nice Ruger. :) Can't beat an accurate little .22 for bang for the buck. Are you just running cheap .22 ammo or fancy match stuff for your 100 yard plinking?

You guys and your Class III stuff make me a sad panda. Very cool, tho. :)

It really likes CCI green tag, but that stuff is $15 for 100 rounds. I ordered some CCI subsonic LHP which has the same weight/velocity of the green tag and it's ~$7 for 100 rounds. I've read that they may like the cheap blazer ammo, that stuff is about $4 for 100. I might go to the store this weekend and buy several different brands and see what it likes.

I'm so jealous. There is no possible way for me to own a gun in the country where I live in. 1 shoot out and they pass such extreme laws.

I hear you. I was born in the US, but live in Australia now, so hard to own a gun it's not worth it at the moment. If (when) I move back to the US, I have a list and a 5 grand budget to go get some nice guns and learn to shoot all over again after 10 years with no shooting.

That's alot of guns.

You know you could obtain a Class 3 by setting up a trust instead of individual NFA ownership, right? As the trust or corp. you still go through all the background checks. But, you don't needto submit photos, finger prints, or have a CLEO sign off.

I'm not big on guns at all but I will be touring the FN plant in Columbia soon and am kinda psyched about it.
My buddy is gathering people for a tour because some 1st Lt knows a guy that works there. Apparently they sell knicked or cosmetically damaged models for super-cheap.

The same buddy has been looking at buying a SCAR from the BX here. I hope he does so I can fire it. But he also wants to hold off since he would rather have a full-auto Heavy, which I guess is military-spec? I guess since he can't get a hold of one of those, it makes him not want to buy an other version.

God I'd love to tour this plant. I'd be in gun heaven.

Let's see what do I have currently
A Tikka T3 30-06 with Stainless Steel Barrel and Laiminated Stock WITH Leuopold rings and scope (worth 300 alone), bought used for $525! The action on the gun is amazing.
Savage 93 17hmr that came with scope and bipod and the accutrigger.
A Turkish Mauser in 8MM
A French MAS 49/56 in French 7.5...I'm trying to sell it to finance a Flintlock rifle. It's a pain to get reloading components for.

Did recently have a CZ-82, some shotguns and marlin 336 I got in trades and sold, a Sig P226, that I did the same.

His usual bi-monthly banning no doubt. Seems to be right on schedule.

Pretty much, along with another poster.

Good to see ya back Manos. Sounds like you have been having fun swapping and trying some new things. I have been slacking lately on my own collection. Haven't added anything new at all this year and have barely taken what I do have out to the range. Need to fix that....

Thanks! Yep, swapping things out seems to be a trait of me. If I had the funds I would just buy and keep, but family is overriding and I just love sampling new things. I swear Gun trading/selling and Video Game trading/selling is no different except you'll never see a Glock for SteamSale or BOMBA prices...maybe a Hi-Point though. lol

If I ever somehow get enough money to buy goofy amounts of stuff, I want to build a walk in vault that plays the Commando music when you enter the code and the door opens. lol
