I know Dwarf Fortress is complex, but you don't really appreciate quite how complex until you see someone trying to explain it to someone else.

/edit holy shit, Vinny's face as Dave casually tells him about having to cull the cat population

A lot of the complexity is thankfully not necessary for survival. By the end they're pretty close to the point of self sufficiency from eating cooked chicken eggs and brewing wine from plump helmets. Ultimately the biggest flaw of their setup right now is that they haven't appointed somebody to looking stuff up on the DF wiki, which is an insanely crucial source of information for how or why you'd do something in the game.

I feel like drew would enjoy that. Just cruising the wiki on a laptop and finding crazy shit and bringing it up. Or tabbing what Dave is doing and reading more about it.

Re: the hole. Dave knows about it. Vinny pointed it out to him. Hopefully he fixes it.

Also I'm still not sold on making his area there out of clay lol.

Since it's EVO WEEKEND coming up, I'd like to see TNT bring back some Scrub League shenanigans this Thursday, even if it's a more ramshackle variation on the MK9 big budget extravagreenscreenanza.

Could have Top 8 single eliminations for, I dunno, UMvC3, MK9 and VF5 in studio with willing GB and Gamespot staff, plus maybe even interlude the studio stuff with an SF4:AE player lobby in Tournament mode, with eight GB fans competing and the GB staff commentating/mocking.

Would be fun!

Plus, y'know, EVO!

That sprite wallpaper looks fantastic. Love Brad Muir in the mobile trench, hoping he stops by the offices again soon for some more content (regular Bombcast someday would be great).

He just needs to start expanding underground into the rock. The top layer will be easy to convert into a barracks when he needs to establish a militia, which is ideal because the militia can then quickly respond to threats outside the fortress when they're idling right by the entrance anyway.

So what's the later game like? After you get your fortress on its feet is it a matter of maintaining/defending/growing it or are there more elements that come into play?

From the huge world map I kind of assume that you'd want to expand to multiple fortresses eventually, but at the same time that sounds like it would get too complex with all the systems going on.

This sounds like a great idea. And VF5:FS TNT of some sort needs to happen

Basically just keep expanding your fortress to keep the food/drink production up to accommodate the increasing number of immigrants. As the fortress' population grows you'll get access to more types of nobles, some of which gives you access to valuable gameplay features, and others which just make inane demands and mandates.

Being a sandbox game, the ultimate gameplay goal, in my opinion at least, is just to make crazy feats of dwarven engineering. Such as building a giant aqueduct that delivers water from your river to the fortress, which is then utilized as a power source for different machines around the fortress, water supply, and to make a big artificial waterfall in your dwarven bathhouse.

Finished watching the North Korea video.

Yeah I could listen to pretty much anyone talk about how weird that country is.

I hope I live long enough to see it open up to the world and finally get to know what its really like there.

Its got to happen eventually right? Maybe not in a year or two but maybe a few decades down the road.

Hopefully the entire fortress will get slaughtered by the first goblin invasion anyway, so it's not that important :)

I actually like digging into clay to begin with cos then you can set up beginner farms really easily before you start really carving out your grand hall and the like.

Whitta's should have a word bubble over his head that says "Shoot That Guy" when it gets made.

Also I would think John Drake would have drumsticks instead of a plastic guitar, since he's a drummer. But I can see where they were going with it.

I think if it ever happens it will feel more like a mass exodus then "open to the world"

The Drew sprite is uncanny. I mean it's instant recognition.

Love the Johnny V one the most.

Those sprites would be amazing in a 16 bit platformer or a smash bros type game.

The GiantBomb game is inevitable. I cant believe a community-created one doesnt exist yet. Im sure the guys wouldn't mind lending a little bit of time to do SOME kind of work for it.

I'm sure this has been asked before but what are the best Happy Hours and TNTs? I've been a subscriber for over half a year now but I've yet to actually dig into any of those. Thanks for any and all recommendations!
