UFC 148 |OT| Shattering the myth that is Anderson Silva - 7.7.2012

Although I agree with the premise that Silva will be the next Fedor once he loses, I'm not yet convinced that Sonnen will be the one to do it. Silva let Sonnen molest him for 4.5 rds only to embarrass him in the 5th in order to prove a point and show off his Renato Laranga level bjj. I think this time he beats him up on the feet.

Then winner of Munoz/Weidmann will come out of that fight injured and Alan Belcher will be the one to finally fedorize Silva.

If it's not Chael it'll be someone else. Weidman, Munoz, Belcher, Lombard, hell...the prospect of him losing to Bisping isn't so laughable anymore.

Anderson would be wise to retire while he still has the brainwashed Zuffa masses believing he could knock out a grizzly bear under Vale Tudo rules.

What, are you still amongst the many that think a 37 year old MMA fighter who relies on speed is some kind of unstoppable demigod?

Wake up call: He ran into a cornfed all-american wrassler. One that wasn't emaciated and burnt out after 5 minutes.

The era of lies is over.

Sonnen isn't the one to do it.

If Sonnen does beat him and it is extremely possible, it will likely be a 25 min grind. Are Silva fans going to get hyped for American Gangster Dry Humps Spider 3? Will this headline a $65 ppv with an undercard full of unknown Brazilians or unknown American wrestlers?

If Sonnen wins I hope it is through his usual means. Which is do nothing for 25 mins but throw baby punches while in guard. I want Yaco to support Sonnen after he wins like that.

C'mon Jon Fitch is exciting!

guess who has a higher finishing % in the Ultimate/WEC between Fitch and Sonnen...Fitch. 7% to 25%

My friend yaco supports change and the truth. If you're talented you should be able to stop it.

So pumped for this card. I don't really mind who gets the win just hope it's a good fight that lives up to the hype.

What is with this title? The myth that is Anderson Silva?! Title should be:

UFC 148 |OT| Reinforcing the phenom that is Anderson Silva

haha what movie is this from?

On topic:
Silva vs Chael, silva via choke - Chael sonnens humble pie is going to be huge....huge!

Tito vs Griffin im gonna have to give this to Griffin, he won both fights and i think currently he is the better fighter.....i feel bad for Tito though.

Would you be happy with a fight like the first fight except without the last minute sub?

I want some drama. I don't think I'd be too disappointed seeing either fighter dominate but thinking of having another 5 rounds or 4 1/2 rounds of Sonnen on top probably doesn't sound like the most exciting fight ever.
I didn't really like the Belfor/Silva fight only because the fight itself didn't really go anywhere exciting aside from the finish, after all that hype and build up. I just want something to talk about after the fight's over something that isn't instantly forgettable.

Silva had a backlash because we know he's capable of amazing things but a lot of his UFC championship fights have been fairly uninteresting, except when he's destroying someone. Which makes me wonder, is he holding back or playing it safe? It's hard for me to imagine a dramatic fight with Sonnen just because it seems as though either Silva will destroy him standing or Sonnen will hold him down.

But we must be hopeful and buy the hype. This is the prototype for an annual Superbowl of UFC. It would be a terrible situation for Zuffa if they ushered this plan in with a disappointing main event like their first Fox show.

I know my friends will be buying it; first ppv we're going to have a party for in I don't know how long.

Going to likely miss this live as my friend is getting married on the same day, but who knows!

Fuck Silva, let's go Sonnen, defend your belt!

Chael " The Weakest Performance Enhancer User On The Planet " Sonnen he's no Dan Henderson that's for sure. This guy is so feeble he can lay on someone for 3-5 rounds & not even bruise them.
Remember the time he got his ass totally schooled by Michael Bisping, then Bisping got robbed by the judges since it would have cost this big money fight. Oh yeah is was Fail Sonnen's last bout. What a shit display for a supposed A-tier fighter. Ufc sometimes is as fake as the WWE when it comes to shitty judges that is.

Chaels standup is straight up garbage. He is a good controlling wrestler that's it. It's not a strength when against a BJJ expert, Chael Sonnen has been caught in more Triangles than Amelia Earhart

Sonnen definitely did not get handled by Bisping. Recently watched that fight, he's the one that kept going forward and took him down almost every time.

Sonnen/Silva Primetime was on last night, pretty good.

Its time for silva to lose finally. I hate that guy. My least favorite ufc fighter of all time. And ortiz is going to get mauled. This will be a good day.

Anderson's getting his 10th title defence and retiring immediately afterwards. Believe.

We can all put up whatever pick cuz there's nothing of value involved. What would you all need as far as odds to bet on either Silva or Sonnen?

Right now it looks like around -260 Silva, +220 Sonnen. Would anyone put money down on these odds, and if not, what odds would you need?

First fight was -440 Silva, +410 Sonnen.

I think if I were to actually put my hard earned money on this, I would need +300 Sonnen. And given that Silva will always be -x, I wouldn't bet on him. I think I'd bet Silva if someone offered me +200.

Safe House. Denzel IS on topic.

Far fetched possibility incoming:

Let's say Sonnen wins. Not only does he win, but he ends up dishing out a pretty rough injury to Silva like a broken bone or something. Silva can't get a rubberband match due to the injury and Sonnen is left to defend the title to whomever is up next. What happens if Silva heals up and comes back? Do you just let him jump straight into a title match, or does he need to get a few matches in beforehand?

If the situation you propose were to happen, Silva would go straight into a title shot as soon as he recovered and if Sonnen were still champion. Dat rubber match PPV $$$ is too much to say no to. Who would then-champion Sonnen fight in the interim? I'm pretty sure he could beat Lombard and Boetsch.

Oh my Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood I can't wait for this PPV. And I know this is the type of main event that will give me butterflies in the stomach for some reason. This PPV is destined to be as good as 147 was 'meh'.

As a person who has a very small knowledge of MMA but saw the Like Water documentary ... I'm hoping that Silva makes Sonnan SUFFER ><

Sonnen's custom Twitter background is so god damned funny:

The more you see the details, the more it keeps giving.

Did he make this himself? What's the deal here?

Yeah, he or someone he knows... it's the background on his Twitter account and in no way official at all.

I just love that he photoshopped the belt on him and included comments about defending his belt for the third time and the fight that Silva ran away from... amazing stuff.

Sonnen has grown so tedious, I seriously can not wait until he gets curb stomped into the land of soft foods and depends and look forward to all of the silence and excuses Sunday morning.
His mouth may have won him some fans in the knuckle dragging wwe style trolling is funny crowd, but what will he have left if (when) he gets dropped by Silva or tapped out yet again.

He's definitely got an all or nothing approach. I mean, this is scorched earth style. He either wins and looks amazing and all the talk is at his back, or he loses, cops to the loss, looks like an idiot and tries to move on. He'll go down a weight class to escape the division and move on...

Highly unlikely. Silva kept running away from him for a reason. I wonder if that time where he got everything beat out of him by Sonnen could have anything to do with it...

It's things like this that make me want to see that man crippled. He blew the fight, tried to pretend he didn't tap, nearly cried in the ring, then blew a fucking piss test; it takes serious balls to run you mouth after that.

I'm not ever a Silva fan, but the 'stopped clock' thoery is getting old. Sure I guess if you keep saying 'he sucks, he'll lose' every single time he fights it might be true one day.

Silva doesn't hold back or play it safe. It is his fighting style. It doesn't always make for the mindless, exciting action we love, but it is what makes him the best in the world.

When you fight someone, it is generally best to attack them (with a strategy of course). With Silva, he is likely to dodge your punch and hit you with one of his own. His precision, defense, reflexes, everythig is unmatched.

Take for example, the Maia fight. You could absolutely see the desperation in Maia's face. Not the kind that says "this guy is a good striker, so I will have to change up my game to make sure he doesn't get me", but the kind that says "everything I try fails, there is no way I can win this".

Except Silva won.
And all of Sonnen's testosterone therapy and everything else did not help him.
He lost.
All his shit talking and everything else may gloss over that fact for the simple out there, but he lost when he had his best chance at Silva because Silva had not dealt with him before.
After the fight Sonnen looked like he got worked over with a baseball bat and Silva looked like he just came in from a light workout.

Chael Sonnen is going to put on the best wrestlefucking in a main event since GSP/Hardy on Saturday night.

Mickey Soares and Joe Silva have been protecting Silva for the past 5 years avoiding matchups against wrestlers. Spider has the TDD of a turnstile.

Sonnen MW Champ.
