Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

A lot of the expansion classes from GW1 seem to be retooled or merged into classes from GW2. Assassin elements are found in the Thief, Ritualist elements are found in the Engineer, Paragon elements are found in the Guardian, Dervish elements are kind of found in GW2's Elementalist.

What I hope to see in the expansions are new weapon types that open up new basic attacks for every class, instead of just new classes. For example, I want to see what moves a Guardian would get when the class picks up a scythe in the inevitable Elona expansion, and how those moves would be different when a different class picks up a scythe.

Jon: Engineer, guardian, warrior, and thief are the four I have done the most with since the beta weekend. Today will probably be some more thief stuff before I move on to the other four. We try to just continually sweep the entire profession list, brushing up the things that need help.

Please don't nerf the guardian, please don't nerf the guardian, please don't nerf the guardian.

*crosses fingers*

I hope they can end up making all the other classes as fun to play as the guardian.

I'm hoping they bring the dervish back, but I would imagine their weapon choices to be limited. Or maybe they could bring in a whole new and viable melee focused class since the engineer is basically ranged focus.

Nah sliders man. slide some of the defensive to the offensive on the Guardian. I want to see huge holy magic craziness.

"Please don't nerf the guardian, please don't nerf the guardian, please don't nerf the guardian."

Unless something is happening outside of the BWEs, the Guardian doesn't have anything worth nerfing. Or playing.

When did they say they were working on expansions already?

They've mentioned it in the past. Though they're only working on rough ideas and locations now, don't think they'll get serious about it until after launch.

Speaking about class balance, one thing I remember from my WoW days (2004-2006) was that the developers always insisted the game was not balanced for 1v1 play. I haven't seen Arenanet say anything similar to that, but I don't disagree with that design choice. Necormancers are likely always going to be tough to 1v1 because of their multiple health bars. But I don't think that necessarily means they will be OP in a 3v3 fight. I'd rather see a game be balanced around group PVP than 1v1. I'm perfectly fine knowing one profession or another is just a bad matchup for me, as long what makes them great duelers does not also make them unbeatable in group fights. So when someone says such and such profession is OP, if that's based on a 1v1 fight, perhaps that should be ignored. Especially when you consider support specs and things like that.

So I'm about to prepurchase the game right now, is there a certain site better for prepurchasing than others? seems like a silly question but ya never know.

From what I've seen, prices have more or less evened out since the start of pre-purchasing. Buying off Anet's site is the most effective way to transfer your money to the actual developers, but you might be able to find a deal elsewhere.

They balance for 5v5.

Thanks, this is likely the way I will go then if it supports the devs.

edit: just prepurchased, feels good! officially aboard the GW2 train

Fortunately, they don't have sub-classes like in GW. They have stated before that because of this, its a lot easier to balance.
Yes, adding new classes won't add exponentially to the number of individual build permutations available and that's a Good Thing(tm).

However, that still leaves cross-profession combos and team builds. Each additional class added to a potential pool of team members increases the complexity of balancing the game. eg. There are 32,768 possible 5-man group permutations by class alone, adding one more class would increase that to 59,049.

Adding additional weapons also adds to the complexity of the game. However, they have less effect than a new class as they don't add whole new class features or utility skills to the game, just new weapon skills to a few classes.

Races involve adding more content and introduce MUCH fewer skills than weapons or classes, making them prime candidates for introduction via explansions.

Welcome to the party, see you on the 20th.

Tengu could be a race added with the eventual Cantha expansion. There was a pretty sizable 'Tengu Resistance' chapter in the Winds of Change GW1 quests, anyway.

Yeah the wait isn't too long till then but I'm dying to hop in and try out the game now.

Your order inspired me to pre-purchase the game right now

Feels goodman

Wild get Parise and Suter and I get GW2 (eventually). Awesome

You should also head on over to the GW2 community thread and sign up for the guild! I didnt see a post by you in there

Man, every Guild Wars mission has a "FUCK YOU!" attached to the end of it.

Pisses me off with some surprise encounter that wipes my party just because.
Really? I've seen a few like that in Factions, but the rest of the game is pretty tame about that or at least drops hints that you'll be facing some heavy hitters.

The harder EotN dungeons and the harder parts of the Underworld can be pretty harsh too if you aren't ready.

Prophecy's Ice Caves of Sorrow, Thunderhead Keep, and Abaddon's Mouth are the LATEST addition to this list of shitty mechanics.

The game is full of it.

I've heard horror stories about the old THK back in the day before they nerfed it because people really couldn't beat it.

Glad I'm not the only Wild fan here!

All that activity in this thread and you hadn't prepurchased yet?

THK was really tough if you did the bonus (especially with henchmen), but the strait mission was pretty easy.

As for Abaddon's mouth and Ice Caves, is it an issue with Spectral agony? If that's it, then you really should get your armor infused (assuming you have a set of max level armor put together). Also, reading the guildwiki on something is always handy.

The best sort of contest that A.net could host would be one to let the winner(s) on 10 minutes before all the other Head Starters, just to squat the best names.

haha this shit. I was stuck on that mission for a while. The worst was that if you were a Ranger or Mesmer you were screwed for groups so it took forever to even start the mission before eventually failing.

The one trick everyone used for that mission was a minor glitch that would get a couple enemies to spawn early, but it didn't help much and it was quickly patched out.

Hah, I really didnt feel the rush since I don't really like playing betas since I really dont want to play the same content over again so soon. Not to mention bugs and lag and what not.

Now though, with the last beta, and the release date being announced, I can be fairly sure that this beta will be pretty close to the final build so i am basically going to figure out my main.

lol you guys, there is exactly ONE wild-fan in the official NHL thread here (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=455483) and now there`s TWO in the GW2-thread? MADNESS. Get yo asses over there and rub it all in the Wings-fans' eyes. or so. Just join us. :D

Oh, im a very casual wild fan. i am just happy that a MN team (besides the lynx) might actually win something for once (or is at least trying to). I will probably watch the Wild more this year, but basketball is more my thing

Yeah I will definitely sign up for the guild now, it should be perfect for me since I won't have an enormous amount of playing time but it will be nice to play with gaffers when I do.

and grats on the NHL free agency, No NHL free agency for ATL but I'm hoping the hawks can make some big moves next offseason in the NBA with all of our newfound cap space.

So I wanted to buy a stack of tanned hide leather, said I'd pay 2k, this guy PMs me and tells me that is the same price the material vendor is paying people. Someone then asks me if I'm still buying and I say yeah. I go make the trade and the guy who pm'd me got all butthurt that I got a stack for 2k saying I should have paid 4.5k. It's not my fault someone paid me 2k rather than ask for more. He got no less money than he would have selling to the vendor and it was his choice. He called me a cheapskate and made a reference about my parents.

BUY LOW AND SELL HIGH, BITCHES!

I thought it was funny during the ending of War In Kryta when the two old guys were talking about infusing armor.

"Kids these days have it so easy with thier asuran magic....Back in my day we had to climb 15 miles uphill in the snow in Shiverpeaks just to get one piece of armor infused...and we liked it!"

Truth. I had a Mesmer that was stuck there for months. A lot of groups couldn't even get to the fort. Henchies were so bad back then, too; the 2 Warrior henchies had "Charge!" as their elite.

Man, those were the days. Infusion runs, drok runs, troll farming, griffin farming...

+ Ettin farming for runes when Superior Vigor and Superior Absorption were 100k.
