PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

damn it, i missed june, just subbed for July - I had to use US account since I couldnt find PSN cards anywhere locally. I really wanted VF5, that sucks ass.

Has anyone else experienced stalled downloads? Last month VF5 would always get suck at 65% downloading and now Gotham City Impostors is stuck at 45%. I canceled it and redownloaded it like 4 times now and same thing. Hangs at 45%. All other games downloaded just fine but these two.

Paying for plus sucks if I can't download the games. :(

Really sad to see all the blind hate for Gotham City Impostors. That game is a goddamn blast, y'all should really give it a fair shake.

And be aware that Team Deathmatch is the worst mode, play Fumigation before you write it off. Also, don't skip the tutorial, there's a lot of unique gadget actions you might not pick up on if you just jump in.

I haven't had any problems, but I've seen others complaining about stalled downloads for some of the larger games, like inFamous 2.

Came to agree with this. I went in expecting absolutely nothing and then got sucked in for 2 or 3 hours. It's like a game tailored specifically to me or something, I love playing support in team based games which the x-ray goggles let me do (it honestly might be a bit over powered, I am constantly topping the score board without ever killing anyone) and I love great mobility which the game has plenty of.

I love how you can glide around the map in a matter of seconds, dive bomb someone on the ground and finish them off with a sword, then quickly fly off into the sky again.

Game is great, going to use it as a podcast game going forward.

I have, the foolproof way to avoid that is to not use background download, basically you wait at the store while its downloading, it sucks since you cant do anything.

No idea why it happens.

I tried this, the screensaver turned on and then my TV lost the signal cause it timed out. When I tried to get the signal back the entire PS3 hard froze and I had to unplug the power to turn it off.

so whats the general consensus regarding playstation plus

is it worth the money?

Worth the money if you don't buy games on PSN. People complain that games that they bought go on sale or go free for PS+. Also worth the money if you don't stick to games a lot and prefer playing once to the fullest and never touching again. Games do expire when your subscription expire so go in knowing that knowledge and not complaining when you can't play it.

Check the history and trend of what games have been available and estimate what will be in near future, and whether its your cup of tea or not.

The only downside? Prepare to have a massive backlog.

I think PS+ is the best product or service this generation. I would pay more than double what they're asking.

But, it may not be for everyone. If you don't have eclectic tastes, and really only want to play RPGs, I'm not sure if it's worth it. If you're the "Madden and Call of Duty Guy," with no desire to even try anything else, then it's not worth it.

But for me? Totally worth it.

Have a look at their free offerings right now, if you don't have a lot of those (I had only 1) then it be a good idea to sign up.

In just a month my $17.99 3 month subscription fee has paid for itself tons of times over.

Just a question for the people who have completed Deus Ex: HR, does this game pick up? it feels like a really slow game, MGS and SC i can play stealthly or rambo style, but Deus Ex is just a really slow game

I'll try to ask here as well, do the game saves from 60 minute trials only work with the digital download, or the retail disc as well?

And Just cause 2 is a real time sink, having a lot of fun with this one.

it may work or it may not, some work such as lbp1/2 works fully where as the digital copy of wipeout that i have doesnt work with the disc copy save

I would say so, I would say that after the first boss fight the game moves at a faster pace in terms of plot progression. As you get more augs aswell that can change the tempo depending on your particular style. When I played it back in December I did take a while to get into it but eventually loved it.

Does anyone have a list of file size for each game offered in playstation +? I'm still rocking an 80 gb and I'm just curious of game sizes.

While I don't have a full list, I can give you my general impression: I'm also still using an 80GB, and I've pretty much resolved myself to upgrade after the first few downloads!

So far they are 3-10GB each it seems. And some have patches that can be over 1GB. So you will need to upgrade or only install a couple at a time really.

I see that you've put prices by region in the OP. If anyone wants to know what price it is in Sweden, it's 480 SEK for a year or 145 SEK for 90 days. Also, in Norway it's 395 NOK for a year and 119 NOK for 90 days. Maybe someone could add to OP in case someone is wondering?

Yeah, this a problem in the long run for the service for a person like me since they are focusing on giving out so many titles as it makes you just sit and wait for it to eventually hit. As a result, I buy less on PS3 now than I did, even with the nice PSN+ discounts.

Was wondering why we haven't changed the thread title yet? Wasn't the original joke "haha, PS+ is kinda shitty and we don't even know why we're signing up for this or what we're actually getting, haha, dumb Sony." It was a totally fair sentiment at the time.

Now it should be "Plus What? Plus EVERYTHING!"

Yep, Impostors is pretty fantastic. I've been playing it everyday for at least a couple of hours since it was "Plussed" on Tuesday. Glad the community got a little injection.

It's got so much more than any other CoD-type shooter out there; the charm, the humor, how fun it is to move around and how many options there are to do so (flying, skating, grapple gun). It's a total blast. And I've only played Psych Warfare so far.

I think it's the best game of the three, and that's not to disparage Renegade Ops, which I think is "good," or Pacman CE DX, which I think is "very good." Impostors is great.

Close to it. Its a service done right. Good price, great content, nothing game breaking behind the paywall. It should be a model going forward.

I didnt like it when it launched, but content got better and better and this year they offered great things. Cant wait how it will be in its 3rd anniversary.

Gotta agree with the consensus here. Plus has been totally worth the money for me. Had to upgrade my hard drive and I have a massive backlog now because of it, but it's still completely worth what they are asking, even higher would be too.

Another vote for yes, it is definitely worth the money. I just got mine the day after Sony's E3 press conference (just a 3 month subscription) and it has more than payed for itself. I will definitely be re-subscribing when it is time to.

Yea thanks to ps+ i'm gonna have to upgrade to a bigger hd.. thinking about just getting a terabyte so I won't have to deal with filling up another drive

I subscribed for the first year, then let it run out. Just wasn't worth the cash to me in the long run.

But at E3 this year when they revealed the new focus on including many AAA titles to subscribers, I couldn't resist and re-upped.

Best move I've made in a long time, still loving the hell out of inFAMOUS 2 and Lara Croft Cradle of Light, haven't even TOUCHED all of the other stuff.

The subscription basically paid for itself on the first day, can't beat a deal like that.

If I buy ps+ for a year and I download free games an get trophies. Will I still own the games and trophies if I dont continue with Ps+ (after a year)?

Yes, PSN+ is the best thing that happened this generation.

On my XBOX i pay to play online, on my PS3 i pay less and get free games that i can play online :-)
Hope Microsoft and Nintendo see the potential in PSN+

You only keep them if your still a ps+ member. Trophies earned will be kept though. Games won't be in your download history until you resub. A few games are actually literally free. As long as nothing happens to your hd, you can still play them.

Wich games are literally free? Do you know? Thanks

Finally got around to playing last month's psn games. Didn't like hard corps, zombie apocalypse or sideway at all. Deleted them already. At least I know Lara Croft is a good game already.

The games that are free rotate out after awhile. They don't stay free for long. I know Plants vs. Zombies, Bomberman HD, DoTP 2009, Awesomenauts, Shank 2 were free off the top of my head. One way to find out after downloading a game is to check the game's information in the xmb. If there is no expiration date, it's free.
Some games that were free before may become free again later so you'll never know. Just know that once your sub ends, you can't download these free games from your download history.

I've been a Plus subscriber for a month now, and I have a couple of questions:

Are the free games generally one and done?
Has a game ever been available for free on more than one occasion?
Say for instance something like VF5, is there any chance of that ever beeing free again, even in years time?

Secondly, if my membership runs out but I resubscribe at a later date, will the games that I downloaded for free in the past still be free to download?

I have a massive backlog now

You can say that again!

SCEE said they will try and re-use games as irregularly as they can. I.e. not do it very often unless they can help it. However, yes there have been occasions in the past where a game was put up free again (last christmas, for example, SCEE put up about 10(?) games that had been free earlier in the year). I don't think this will happen again though, especially not with big games like VF5. But who's to say?

Nope, those are just demo + unlock keys which is why it's not showing the expiration date. If you check your downloads on the SEN website you'll see they all expire when your PS+ subscription does.

you would fill your 80 GB quickly... full games at 15 GB, i have been downloading July for past 3 days over my meagre 4 Mbs... might make me connect my 20 Mbs to the network...
