Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Bbbut Champion of the Gods sounds so cool :(
Maybe getting someone's account with few level 20s, probably got some done, would that work? Gonna read what it takes to get full 50, in before season events or month+ long farms

Many hours doesn't work for me :\

Theres a free GW1 trial out there that you could check out.

Personally, I didnt enjoy the game. Though ive heard prophecies is the worst one, and might have enjoyed it when it first came out, but now it just feels really dated (probably because it is dated)

Caraemm really is a very thoughtful player. Great videos always. And i am definitely going to follow his suggestion about concentraiting on achievements and just walking around, exploring. Personally, that just sounds more fun than trying to level super fast to be one of the first to level 80. And hell, it sounds like you might get there real fast anyways due to the massvie exp bonuses

It will take a very long time to get anywhere close to 30 points in HoM. HoM was implemented to reward GW1 players who spent a long time playing the game. Not saying it's impossible, but even if you try to do it in the quickest ways possible it will still take quite some time.

If I was you I'd just wait until GW2 since that's the game you're excited about. GW1 is not very similar to GW2 aside from setting/lore. All the rewards are cosmetic anyway.

As a long time GW1 player, I very much believe that if someone was to try to get into the game now they'd be way too late and simply missing out on a lot of what made the game awesome way back when. The main thing that drew me into the first game was the multiplayer aspect of it; that is teaming up with other people and doing quests/missions. When prophecies first came out it was very popular, so forming teams was very easy to do and a lot of fun. Unfortunately most people have moved on from the game, and those that are still playing were done with prophecies years ago. Nowadays with the introduction of AI controlled heroes most people who are still playing the game just play it solo.

That being said, prophecies definitely isn't the best campaign to start with. It's the most dated, the slowest, and the hardest to play solo since you don't get heroes in it. Nightfall is the way to go imo, and after that Eye of the North. Eye of the North really is the finest thing they did with GW.

Hate to beg here......Anyone have any Cloth of the Brotherhood they would be willing to part with? One is good enough. Two would rock.

As for the OT title, wow, I had no idea it was such serious business. Guess I never really pay attention to them.

I know, I want sexy character in GW2 with sexy title right away, but alas, I'll pass and live without it I guess.
I am going to do every event, dungeon, puzzle/jumping place etc in GW2 tho, NO LIFE ACTIVATE. Hopefully I won't fuck up my semester like I did with WoW, hardest and most important one now lol, but exams are mid October so hopefully from 25th August until then I'll be done with 15 hours a day play sessions.

I need a couple Cloths of the Brotherhood too, if you want Brett we can run Glint's challenge together sometime to grab a few for both of us.

Also, were you able to finish EotN? I can run you through Cyndrr and Great Destroyer too if you havent.

I am running out for a few hours right now though so I cant help at the moment :(

Well it entirely depends on whether or not you have some friends to help you out. I've been helping a friend out and he's gone from 3-15 in about a week or so. If you're starting out all alone though with no help it'll be a long time.

For sure. A lot of the "easy" points you can get require money/materials which take many hours to accumulate. However, if somebody can help you out with the money side of things, you can probably get to 30 points. My friend had only finished prophecies and a bit of nightfall, and I got him to 30 using money alone. 50 points on the other hand will take you an insanely long amount of time, I know those from experience.

I was going to play through GW1 for the lore and figured the HoM rewards would be just bonus, but I've decided to give up on that and try to work though my backlog of other games before GW2 comes out. I'll just watch Wooden Potatoes' walkthroughs for the story. I am also tempted to get Dragon Quest 10 and play that for a few weeks before I jump into GW2.

GW1 is not a bad game, but it seems very much a group-focused one. You can play through the game with the heroes, but I think it would be more fun with some real people.

You're definitely right about that. I spent thousands of hours in GW1, and very few of those were spent on my own. There were tons of pub groups/guilds/awesome people playing GW during its most active years. Hell, there still are, but you have to look harder to find them. For instance, about a year ago I had roughly 30 points in my HoM, and I decided to go for the 50. The only way I managed to do that was that I found an awesome group of dudes by chancing upon their guild. They helped me with a lot of the harder stuff, like Domain of Anguish. It was a lot of fun.

However, if your main goal was the lore, I don't think you'd get much out of it. The story was never something I cared for all that much in GW1. I mean I have fond memories of it, but I never considered it to be all that strong or well presented.

Yeah, it's always more fun to play games with friends. As for the story I'd agree I don't care much for it, though EOTN is the best of them all and has the best presentation as well. I do care more for the lore and atmosphere than the story itself.

Yeah, EotN is really great. When it first came out I was kind of burnt out on GW so I didn't really fully explore it. But when I went for HoM points I was forced to vanquish everything/do all the quests/dungeons/missions, and I really began to appreciate it. The explorable areas look great in EotN.

Sounds good. Yeah, I'm watching UFC 148 tonight, so no way I'll be on. :)

Unfortunately, no. I'm still at Cyndrr. I decided to start Nightfall, and am now getting crushed by Abbadon. lol. I just can't win. I made it to the Great Destroyer on my Warrior a few years ago, and just recall melting into oblivion. I hate that mission!

Next I'll run through Prophecies, just so I can get a Black Moa Chick. I'm farming Stolen Sunspear Armors now. Got 2 in my first run, 23 runs later, not another one has dropped. lol.

Yeah EOTN is beautiful and obviously the best version of GW1 from a general design standpoint.

I can help you one shot Cyndrr, though Abaddon makes me want to choke a bitch if your group sucks. I'll be home in about 2 hours or less.

Apart from the closed beta is there/will there be any way to try this? IE. open beta, demo, etc.? Looked but it seemed like it was only the closed beta sessions, most of which are already over, ya know?

You can preorder from Amazon for free and cancel if you want to.

No, the second one. A little help from above.

Everyone can heal and res. Who designs a game when enemies res themselves?

Interrupts and res disables are your friend, remember you have access to thousands of skills to accomplish your goals. Most mob rez skills are 8 seconds long, there are people in PvP that can interrupt in 1/4th of a second.

Slot that and they can't rez if it's alive. Also, run 2 interrupts if you can.

Doesn't really help that there are a million skills all over the place.

The amount of skills in GW1 is just an absolute mess.

Edit: And the stupid design of limited skills would have made this game the worst game of the year if it wasn't already years old. Of course, Diablo 3 does the same thing and is this year's worst game of the year.

Musttttt have... beta wekenedddddddddddddddd

I just need to play, plus I want to see all the shiny new changes.

We seriously need some changelog thing going on though like MMO champ.

Well you can easily get Frozen Soil if you're near the end of Prophecies or have completed it.

Get http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Distracting_Shot

and

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Savage_Shot

for interrupts since you'll be using a Ranger with Frozen Soil anyways, be sure to get a bow and swap out when you want to interrupt.

Or you could focus fire the healers and it'll be a non issue. What class are you playing?

I'd really just not play GW1 at this point, even for the HOM stuff. I got to 12 and that's only because I'd already completed Prophecies awhile back. Luckily, Diamond Aegis is only 11/50. The PvE in GW1 is just really, really poor. Don't frustrate yourself over it.

If you run this build here:

http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_7_Hero_Player_Support

You can afk your way through normal mode content, it's not exactly hard and doesn't require much attention from the player. Hard mode is another story though.

"If you run this build here:"

Cool, that's a good 5-6+ hours of hunting for elites and unlocking heroes playing through content you really don't want to play, and that's assuming the elites aren't in areas you have to go through a bunch of quests/missions to gain access to. Of course plenty of the heroes will require that.

You have to beat all the campaigns to get 30 points (well it's the smartest thing to do) and it leads you through about 95% of the areas you need for the elites anyways. If people can't be bothered to get a couple skills then why play at all?

Anyone know how much 7th year birthday presents are worth? I've got two of em, and I think selling them should help for the last 7 points I need to get 30/50.

Okay, the "Buy the Box, Play Forever" thing sounds good as a title, but I still like the "MMO (R)evolution" thing... a lot. Maybe sneak it in as a subtitle in the actual thread content?

Meh.

Or we could all forget it was ever mentioned so the GW2 OT doesn't end up like every other non-WoW MMO OT.

Yeah, the last thing a GW2 OT needs is a self inflated thread title.

Especially if I'm going to have to keep clicking the damn thing.

Edit: In fact, Tekno, I demand that you edit the GW2 OT title to be as bland and dry as possible.

Perhaps, but that doesn't make it any less true. This is the MMO other MMOs will crib notes from, from here on out.
Oof. Really? Not saying the game isn't good, but Titan is gonna be that game, for better or worse.

Edit: Shit. See? Just proved Tekno's point.

Oof. Really? Not saying the game isn't good, but Titan is gonna be that game, for better or worse.

Heh, I guess the last four years of WoW and Diablo 3 didn't shake someone's faith in Blizzard.

Seriously though, does anyone think we'll continue to see the traditional questing scheme crop up in new MMOs from here on out? I mean, of course, there are always going to be Diku-clones that slap together a trinity-based combat system and Kill 10 Rats questing, but the quality MMOs aren't going to be able to follow that route. Players will expect more.

Oof. Really? Not saying the game isn't good, but Titan is gonna be that game, for better or worse.

You know, I keep hearing this, but at this point do we really even know anything solid about Titan? Like anything at all? Just on the fact that it is made by Blizzard, everyone assumes that its just going to automatically destroy the industry.

After seeing so many other untouchables in the video game industry suddenly on the wrong side of fan outcry this generation, I just don't buy that Blizzard will be able to continue to dominate forever just by virtue of putting their name on the box. The cracks are already starting to show in the wake of Diablo 3.

Now it might turn out to be an amazing game, I'm certainly not ruling out that possibility. But if its just "the next MMO from Blizzard" it will be a financial success, but it will never be the next WoW on that alone.
