Air Mail is great! I love it.

Also, decided to snag Mass Effect Infiltrator for $1. Thinking about Batman also. Is Mass Effect I pretty good? I know it's at least 5 hours long so I'm sure it'll be worth it. Don't know about Batman but for $1, I think it looks like it'll be fun.

Also, King of Fighters '12 is good as well.

My Mass Effect Infiltrator opinion has kind of changed now that I've played more of it. It seems to struggle from the same issue Dead Space iOS did by just having the entire game be repetitive combat rooms. It seems unnecessarily drawn out too. The core combat is good, but the game itself is falling short to me.

Mass Effect Infiltrator is waaaaay better than Dead Space in terms of gameplay. Its gameplay mechanics are absolutely excellent. Though in terms of levels it is somewhat simplistic and repetitive (though more varied than Dead Space) and in terms of story and story-telling it's a joke (which is sad since it's supposed to be Mass Effect). But if you really dig Mass Effect games' combat and you want something you can up your galactic readiness with on the go, this game is *awesome*. I'm having a lot of fun with the flow of the combat in this and I'm actually on my second playthrough. Dead Space, on the other hand, was never really engaging to me gameplay-wise.

Yeah I agree with the gameplay bit for sure. It's easily the best shooter controls I've seen on iOS. I just wish they'd kept it fresh by not having it be so repetitive. Great systems though.

Also, can we talk openly about Jailbreaking in this thread? I'm curious to learn more after seeing those cool dual- emulator iPad screens earlier in the thread, but I know almost nothing about it (though I waded through the custom firm scene on PSP for a while). Can you still get regular App Store access while JBed?
Yes we can. We can also talk about how much we need an Every Extend game for iOS ;)

have you guys seen this GAMEDOCK Kickstarter Project? :D
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/500587227/gamedock-for-iphone-ipad-and-ipod-touch-devices

It is made by the team behind Cavorite 1 and 2 :D

That's basically turning an iOS handheld into what the Apple TV should be, an app enabled iOS TV hub. It's an awesome idea but a little expensive for me to invest in, good luck to them though.
I may as well recommend something while I'm here. I've been playing Billy's Gang Slot for a while, it's a casino slot machine with brief minigames and nice graphics of Dick Tracy-esque gangster animals.

Like others said, jailbreaking and talking about it is fine. Piracy, of course, is not. Talking about emulators is fine, too.

And, yes, you can access anything and everything normally when you're jailbroken.

If you're ever stuck or have any specific questions, feel free to ask them here. I sift through this thread at least once a day, and I'm happy to help anyone who needs it.

Jailbreaking is very safe, and does not void your warranty in any way. (Just don't take your jailbroken device to the apple store - remove the jailbreak if you're going to do that.)

Hey guys, i had an IPhone 4 for a while now. I don't have so many games on it. If you have any recommendations, i would love to try. I don't like action and racing games with touch screen controls. So slow paced genres (adventure, strategy, rpg) are more suitable to me than the other genres. So what should i play? Also i love old adventure games like Monkey Island, Broken Sword, etc. but i don't know which of those games are on IOS, please tell me about such old gems as well.

Wow, too many to name. You're in luck though, because adventure games are very popular on iOS.

Here's a small list off the top of my head:

King of Dragon Pass (must-buy)
Osmos
Chaos Rings 2
Squids/Squids 2
Ravenmark
Ghost Trick
Yesterday
Starbase Orion
Amoebattle

The rest of the games on my mind are ipad only.

it is! but for some strange reason, i decided to plonk down some cash for it :/
-and iCade is around that price... and Single Player?-

do you think an OT would be good?
I know there's a generic KS "gaming" thread somewhere, may be worth posting in that?

It got me thinking about getting a decent controller for the iPhone... Wiimote is only 2-button, Wii Classic is cumbersome due to needing the Wiimote and there's nothing yet for PS3 controllers over bluetooth. And the iControlPad is $80 or something still! Oh, and no 8-Bitty yet either. So shit :(

Broken Sword and Monkey islan have AWESOME ports, best adventure games on the device. Get them.

btw, I loved your emu posts this week. I've been playing Earthbound like a fiend this week, all cause of you :)

Well, Outwitters was fun for a short time, but the game's showing its true colors: shallow, repetitive, and completely imbalanced in favor of IAP teams.

thanks to 8sanders for adding me up on Game Center, anyone else with Bug Princess 2 who would like to add me up for the achievement? my nickname is vallxtreme btw.

I'm glad! Earthbound was one of the first games I played on my iPad. :)

I'll be honest, that fast-forward button really makes old JRPGs a lot more playable, IMO.

How so? Isn't the super-unit the only difference between the teams? I haven't put that much time into it, but so far I'm having some success primarily using Runners and Snipers.

Awesome, and thanks - it is so difficult to find intelligent discussion of these kinds of things. (Actually, I think I registered here primarily to find more info from the PSP CFW thread back in the day!) Is there a general "best" way to jailbreak a Verizon iPhone 4S on 5.1.1? I've tried some searching, but most of my initial findings look like they're from sketchy sites made just to skim ad revenue from people searching for jailbreak info.

Though the site seems to currently be down, you're looking for the Absinthe Jailbreak. A quick google search for that will give you the main site as the first result (but again, it's down at the moment).

You can use either a mac or pc. Make sure you make a backup of your device beforehand, though. Either locally, or by making a complete backup on iCloud. There's no risk of bricking your device, but you can definitely temporarily lose data if something goes wrong, which is why it's good to have a backup.

There are guides on that site, but honestly, it's a super easy process. Download the program. Connect your iPhone. When it recognizes your phone, click "Jailbreak" and wait. Sometimes it takes 20 minutes, sometimes it takes 4 hours (depending on how filled your phone is). Just wait. If it somehow does freeze and never move on, first check your phone to see if Cydia actually installed. My jailbreak never officially finished according to the program, but it did properly install Cydia, and everything went well. If stuff seems borked or you have missing data, just reformat your phone, restore the backup, and try again.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

I've just discovered my new favorite genre for the iPad and it's pinball! I just downloaded a couple apps and they work really well. Having the close elongated screen is the closest I've seen electronic pinball gaming get to replicated the pinball feel.

Oh and I have decided magic on iPad is the way to play that game. Tap those cards!

Can't speak to the IAP, but I agree it's shallow and repetitive. I would add slow, too. I can understand the fog of war but I find it makes for a less interesting game. It's really lame watching an enemies turn of nothing happening because it's all behind the fog.

Have gone back to HA. Can't beat the king!

You should give Summoner Wars a try. It's pretty much the game that HA took a lot of ideas from, but the original ;) awesome boardgame, ported extremely well by the Ascension/Nightfall dev Playdek, DEFINITELY worthy to be nr1 boardgame/async multiplayer game on iOS, right next to Carcassonne. IMHO even better, mostly because the game itself is better than Carc.

I hope you've picked up Pinball Arcade. Don't bother with any others, it's the real deal. Just don't waste your time with Ripley's, it's a bit shit. The rest are fine, though!

First of all, what do you think of this incoming iOs game?

Second, some replies:

Do we have any idea when Infinity Blade Dungeons is releasing? Probably my most anticipated game right now. Gonna grab Squids 2 right now, love that stuff.

Also Gunman Clive is FUCKING BALLS AWESOME. Congrats beril, hope more people buy it.

I Agree completely. Gunman Clive is a very nice game, better if you can use other thing that virtual controls.

I second this. I had a lot of fun with this game and it took me 3 sessions to finish it. The point and click dynamic are very reminiscent of old times, with obtuse puzzles. But it was a great ride, and with a built in hint system, you will not be stuck.

I enjoyed Yesterday way more than Hector. But hey, opinions and all.

I am with Yesterday :D.

Hi all,

I bought the iPad 3 a few weeks ago and have just been playing the games that appear on the top charts on the app store which seem to be very hit and miss.. Is there a more up to date essentials list for iPad only games?

Cheers!

Yeah, but compare the default super to the ones on the IAP teams, and it's kind of a joke.

Also add the fact that map design is kinda cheap. I didn't really pay too much attention at first, but after a couple of losses, I noticed certain maps leave your base open on the very edges of the map while blocking access to those areas from the middle of your base. So, basically, if you don't turtle those areas, there's no way to get to them in time should someone rush you from the sides. That kinda tug-of-war gameplay gets old fast for me.

Depends, what type of games are you interested in? Do you care about retina support?

Here are some good iPad games:

Retina:

Waking Mars
Aquaria
Galaxy on Fire 2 HD
Anomaly Warzone Earth HD
Crazy Hedgy
Real Racing 2 HD
Windosill
Air Mail

Non-Retina:

Incoboto
Avadon / Avernum HD
DrawRace 2 HD
Groove Coaster
Machinarium

odd request.

Any reqs of some games that are light on battery use for iphone?

And give me some that aren't the most popular ones that appear on the top 20 lol.

if you want a full scale game try Myst or Marvel vs. Capcom 2

As long as you stay away from 3D games (which tend to heat up the device), you should be fine. Memory intensive 2D games like cave shooters can also drain battery fast.

I imagine kairosoft games would be light on battery life. And king of dragon pass.

Yes, this. Pretty much everyone in this thread needs to be playing Summoner Wars. Especially if you like Hero Academy and turn-based strategy.

Spoiler question about Squids 2 for people who have finished the story mode...

Is there any way to get Steev back so I can use him for bonus missions?

Anyone knows what the bag number above the items tab is supposed to be? Tried to figure it out by myself but failed.

I'm playing it again today and the ad is now gone. Weird.

Despite the bug it didn't bother me though. It was actually nicely designed lol, it was pixelated in the style of the game and it always showed the same ad (Left2Die, Everplay's new release).

What game is this? Sorry just looks interesting.

Zen Pinball, man.

Some may say that Pinball Arcade feels a bit more realistic, but that game ain't nearly as polished as Zen.

I like that PA has real tables, of course, but playing it feels far less enjoyable for me than something designed from the ground up for digital, like Zen Pinball.

Whatever, though. Get both. :D

Can't stop downloading games. Backlog...
I love the fact that you can now hide purchases in your purchase history. It really is just a giant backlog of games for me at this point.

Like, literally hundreds of games I've never even tried, but have bought/downloaded when free. It's worse than my steam backlog at this point.
