'Spider-Man' spins $140 mil web Stateside. Sony reboot cumes stellar $341 mil globally; U scores $32 mil with 'Ted'
With six days of holiday playtime, Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man" kickstarted its high-flying domestic run -- until "The Dark Knight Rises" bows in two weeks, that is -- with a $140 million gross through Sunday.
Globally, the Spidey reboot has collected a whopping $341.2 million since its $50 million overseas bow last weekend.
Serving up adult counterprogramming over the Fourth of July frame, Universal scored with its one-two punch, led by R-rated laffer "Ted," which grossing $32.6 million in its second outing (down just 40%) for a cume of $120.2 million. Oliver Stone's drug cartel thriller "Savages" did better than expected, estimating $16.2 million through Sunday.
Paramount's low-budget music docu "Katy Perry: Part of Me" managed to just crack the $10 million mark in four days (pic bowed Thursday), though its three-day gross was $7.2 million.
