Zen Pinball, man.

Some may say that Pinball Arcade feels a bit more realistic, but that game ain't nearly as polished as Zen.

I like that PA has real tables, of course, but playing it feels far less enjoyable for me than something designed from the ground up for digital, like Zen Pinball.

Whatever, though. Get both. :D

Pinball Arcade gets monthly updates though, frequent new tables, and has much more momentum imo, despite the bugs (not that Zen is without them). Get both I agree, and Pinball HD, but Pinball Arcade is the king, and it will be without question in another year, when Pinball Arcade has 20+ amazing tables and Zen still has the same 8 or so, and the last update was 9 months ago lol.

Edit: To further tip the scales, only 2 of all of Zen's tables run at an acceptable (not even 30fps) framerate, while the rest run at like 10-15 on an iPhone 4, while all but 1 or 2 of Pinball Arcades tables run at 30 or 60 fps. Of course faster hardware will negate that, but it's a big thorn in the side if you're not on a iPad 2 or 4S.

Broken Sword and Monkey islan have AWESOME ports, best adventure games on the device. Get them.

Thank you, i am getting those tonight.

Wow, too many to name. You're in luck though, because adventure games are very popular on iOS.

Here's a small list off the top of my head:

King of Dragon Pass (must-buy)
Osmos
Chaos Rings 2
Squids/Squids 2
Ravenmark
Ghost Trick
Yesterday
Starbase Orion
Amoebattle

The rest of the games on my mind are ipad only.

Got the King of Dragon Pass. I really like it so far. Will check about the other ones and get the ones i like tonight as well. Thank you very much.

Just bought a new iPad myself and trying to load it up with as many goodies as I can find. Got The Act the other day and loved it although it was terribly short, maybe a half hour long at most. Could anyone recommend a similar game, or heck, anything else with a great story?

Especially get the Broken Sword ones, IMHO the best. Monkey Island is a close second, if only for the nostalgia. There are 1,2 and the very new Telltale ones (which I didn't like THAT much, to be honest). 1 and 2 have digitally remastered versions, so they look awesome. If you want, you can also choose to play the oldschool looking versions, but.. the new ones look great, and the games are still as awesome as they were back in the days. ;) definitely worth it.

Also, Ravenmark. get it.

Starbase Orion has gotten some AWESOME dev-support with constant big updates, but I haven't actually gotten around to buying it, due to backlog :/ I know some gaffers here have it though and would be more than happy to have someone else join them for some coop games, since that's where the game shows its best.

Some other games that might interest you:

Civilization Revolution - a good port of the console game, must-buy if you like the Civ-series ;)
Rebuild - I've actually had some fun with this, light zombie-invasion Turn-based strategy.
ANY Kairosoft games - small, japanese management games with LOADS of addiction potential. Set aside a whole day if you start playing these, because you won't put them down. Especially noteworthy are Game Dev Story, Mega Mall Story and Grand Prix Story.
New Star Soccer - Soccer Sim, LOADS of addiction potential here too.
Plague Inc. - Like the browser game Pandemic, you develop/evolve your disease and try to spread it all over the world, to kill everyone. has a LOT of polish and added elements over the browser game, and a really really good port.

Might be a good idea to grab Hacienda while it's on sale if you're into board games.

http://cubeyourmind.com/2012/07/03/hacienda-1-2-submitted/

As you know, we decided to improve Hacienda with a series of small improvements. Yesterday we submitted for Apple approval version 1.2 of Hacienda.

In submitted version you will find:

redesigned (improved, we hope!) scoring screen: bigger and more clear
volume adjustments of backgrounds sounds
clarifications in rules (points for markets)
minor graphic improvements
new screens for App Store

As we promised we were working on both Retina version and multiplayer mode. In release 1.3 we want to implement “undo” for tiles placing and improve quality of dragging elements on the board. Version 1.3 should be submitted as soon as version 1.2 will be released.

I had downloaded Squids a while back -- forget if it was on sale or free -- and never got around to playing it until recently. I absolutely concur with everyone else's impressions: very fun, very polished, utterly charming, and definitely the kind of game that only could exist on iOS devices. Tons of content, too. I bought some IAP to support the developers, and am looking forward to buying Squids: Wild West at some point in the future.

I want my King of Dragon Pass iPad update. They just updated the blog saying that it is still coming, and I am so fucking hyped. It's a pity it isn't retina, but it will do!

That is awesome. Can't wait.

I'm actually more interested in the interface improvements than retina graphics. The UI is so busy on the iphone screen. And I believe they said at one point that retina graphics are impossible due to the quality of the original source material. (artwork was scanned at a low resolution)

Hopefully the menus bits will be Retina, but I have pretty low expectations for iPad 3 support these days.

I've been playing Spellsword all weekend off and on while out of town at a wedding. Holy wow is this great. I didn't really care for Super Crate Box because you started from scratch every time. This has substance. I guess that's why I can't play permadeath MMOs and crap. I need the feeling of progress.

outside of kairosoft stuff (consumed them all), any management style games worth recommending?

And not those f2p farmville style 'games'.

New Star Soccer. Definitely has Kairosoft-levels of addiction potential. Do it. Career mode though, which is an IAP.

I've aldo had a surprising amount of fun with the "Virtual City" games, e.g. Playgrounds.

Yeah, new star soccer is great. Not that great on subways though lol. missed a quite a few key shots due to a 'bump'. Will give some virtua city games a look.

Problem is most don't work well on iphone.

Also try Rebuild or Plague Inc., they're management-type games as well. Slightly shorter, but with a lot of replay-value and variation. :)

On Xbox I prefer Zen Pinball over Pinball Arcade. Zens tables are just far more engrossing and enjoyable. Pinball Arcades tables are punishing, just like their real life counterparts.

Having said that, Zen Pinball on iOS does suffer framerate issues. Pains me to say that, as I adore Zen Studios work and I'm really looking forward to Castle Storm.

I suppose the difference is whether you prefer videogame pinball, or simulated pinball. I honestly don't think there's the ability to enjoy both equally.

I enjoy both equally. I divide my time between Pinball HD, Zen Pinball and Pinball Arcade, and I love playing real pinball machines whenever I get the chance.

For the jukebeat crew - KONAMI music pack 16 is out a week later than expected, but makes up for it by having three songs from jubeat copious (all previous packs were from classic/ripples/knit). Considering there are only 9 copious packs in total (and about 30% of the songs being license covers, which don't make it over here) we could be in a slower release period for the long haul. Guess we'll see in a few weeks.

◆KONAMI music pack 16◆

"AI NO UTA" by YOSHIHIKO KOEZUKA ( 3 / 4 /7 )
"Storm Of Quicksand" by Gekidan Record ( 5 / 7 / 9 )
"polygon" by Sota Fujimori ( 4 / 6 / 9 )
"LINDWURM" by Black Cat Labyrinth ( 5 / 7 / 10 )

Release Date: Jul 9, 2012

Purchase in app for $3.99.

I'm really enjoying Kingdom Rush, but did I just save 15 stars to rush and unlock heros, only to find out the only way I can get them is to pay for them? Waste of stars if true. :\

I love the fact that you can now hide purchases in your purchase history. It really is just a giant backlog of games for me at this point.

Like, literally hundreds of games I've never even tried, but have bought/downloaded when free. It's worse than my steam backlog at this point.

That page is horribly slow and laggy on my two iPhones, I hope they fix this in the future and give us different ways of browsing the list.

I use the hide feature to get rid of all my trash apps.

So I fired up Dead Space iOS on my iPad last night. It's been installed forever but I didn't really want to give it a chance. Picked up ME: Infiltrator for $1 so I figured I'd play through Dead Space before ME.

Dead Space is good. I like the walking and looking controls they put in. Sometimes I accidentally fire off stasis while I'm strafing, but I'm pretty pleased with it. I don't plan on replaying, just once through the campaign and then uninstall, but it's not bad.

Sorry for the late reply, but I only just got reply privileges. (long-time lurker, and no I never stole app codes :P)

Anyway, I highly recommend checking Cursed Treasure HD. I don't believe it was ever mentioned in this thread, which is strange, because in my opinion it's one of the best TD games on iOS (probably second only to KR.) The game is very tightly balanced, to the point of near perfection. There's a free flash version that you can try, which has been extremely popular for years.

Just tried this out via the flash version, very nice, thanks!

Does the full IAP of Magic 2013 worth it?

I have enjoyed the demo so far. But 10$ seems a little expensive for me.

It didn't grab me, and the fact that it's 10 bucks and takes up a full 1 GB of space caused me to nuke it. I'm not sure how similar they are, but Ascension is still my favorite card game, and the app version is almost perfection.

stars can be reset whenever you want, you can tinker as much as you want

Has anyone seen the RPG 'To the Moon'? http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/904589-to-the-moon-review-reaching-for-the-stars

Looks absolutely fantastic, and perfect for iOS. Does anyone know if any of the other RPG Creator games have been successfully ported across? I have a bad feeling Cthulhu Saves the World was made using that engine, and whilst it's a fantastic game, seems to be a real shoddy port.

I've heard of To The Moon and was quite excited to see it mentioned in the iOS game thread, only to then have my hopes crushed when it turns out it's not coming to iOS at all, and you're just being weird.

CStW was made from scratch, not in any Game Maker. The shoddiness of its port comes from the port being farmed out to a third party who apparently weren't up to it.

I've been playing a lot of picross recently (Mario's Picross GB and Picross DS) and I'm wondering what the best picross game is for iOS. Is there one clear standout title?

I already researched this a bit and apparently nonogram is the more general term for picross.

Crosslogic

(again.)

Oh!Cube but it's more like Picross3D. And it was free like a month ago

To each his own, I suppose. I've never had a framerate issue with Zen, but I've also got an iPad 2, 3, and iPhone 4S. I definitely like the boards on Zen a bit more (aside from the nostalgia factor of Pinball Arcade - as soon as they release Space Shuttle, that'll change :D).

But yeah, both are cheap, and both are good. And both are very different, too!

Yeah, it's a real pain to get through that list. What's worse is when you don't remember an app, click it to investigate, then when you return to the list, you have to start at the beginning.

Still, I'm thankful you can hide purchases in the first place. That was an option I didn't expect to have from apple.

Oh!Cube is Picross3D, very good game.

Question guys, how does one create an Apple ID on the iphone without having to supply a credit card number? I don't have one and would just like to download a couple of free apps. The account creation process in the device demands credit card info.
