I was looking for something else, but watched this because of the description. I realize now I would be a stranger in a strange land if I ever moved to Japan. This has a cucumber, crickets, and, I hope. very badly translated subtitles.

Sex Machine(The Strange Saga of Hiroshi the Freeloading Sex Machine / Himo no Hiroshi / Sex mashin: Hiwai na kisetsu)
2005 UR 1hr 4m

Average of 162,596 ratings: 2.5 stars

When Hiroshi (Mutsuo Yoshioka) moves in with his girlfriend, Haruka (Rinako Hirasawa), one steamy summer, they engage in endless rounds of inspired and inventive sex. But when Haruka's former lover unexpectedly shows up, he challenges Hiroshi to an unusual duel involving a curious fad that's sweeping their small town. Yûji Tajiri directs this wild comic romp that also stars Minami Aiyama and Akino Hirasawa.

To bad the new Conan is fucking awful in every way.

Khal Drogo killing people is pretty enjoyable actually.

Watched this last night:

Was really good. Rockwell was awesome as usual.

I have to wait until October? :| Is this season airing right now or something?

The season ended in May, but the DVD comes out in September, and I'd imagine that they don't want to cannibalize DVD sales by putting it on Netflix at the same time.

As far as I'm concerned, the one month difference between the DVD release and the Netflix release is actually a pretty nice turnaround.

That makes sense. Also, I didn't know that Parks and Recreation was originally planned as a spin-off of The Office. Looks like I've got something to watch until then.

If you really don't want to wait go subscribe/free trial Hulu. :) This release time frame is in line with what NBC has been doing for all of its currently running shows available on Netflix.

Watched Senna today and can confirm its a really good documentary. And I'm proof that you don't have to be an F1 fan to enjoy it.

Also,
I might have teared up at the end. (I had no idea he died)

Some newer movies now up:

Watched Immortals, was a nice looking movie. Lots of good framing/shots. Movie felt kinda soulless though. Still the competent cinematography raised it above the summer blockbuster trash released nowadays.

Next up is the Conan remake movie, I think I need some encouragement to get to watch it.

My main problem with Immortals was that I had just finished watching the BBC Merlin series. The narration by John Hurt at the beginning made me do a double take.

Fellow fans of dark Asian cinema...

Cold_fish.jpg

I prefer Korean thrillers (this one is Japanese), but Cold Fish was very good. Pretty long runtime, but I was engaged the entire time and definitely recommend it.

Thank you for posting this! Huge fan of both Suicide Club and Strange Circus.

Just finished "The Man From Nowhere" and holy shit... that was a fantastic movie!! Other great action/martial arts recommendations?? I've seen all Ip Man and Ong Bak titles.

watched the documentary about Irish street fighters called ""Knuckle" on a whim the other day. Found it really good. And hilarious to see these guys make video tapes cutting promos on each other and challenging rival "family" members to brawls. Highly recommended.

Netflix abroad question:

I have an US account, but I am going to Mexico next week. If I want to watch Breaking Bad, will it be available since I will be connecting through a non-US IP address?

is there still a free Netflix trial in the US? how long is it?

whenever I go to netflix it says "Welcome Back! do you want to sign up again?"

trying to find out for a friend.

nope. I tried when i was in Japan for a while.

Immortals was classic Tarsem. Shallow story, but absolutely beautiful visual.

When I was watching the movie, I thought to myself "this sure as hell reminds me of The Fall & the Cell" (in a good way).
Nice to know I was right on.

Finally got to watching Conan reboot last night. Someone here mentioned that it had good cinematography, which it did & was pretty much the only good thing it had going for it.
Bland & forgettable movie all around.

We live in an apartment and when we tried to sign up for Netflix the first time it only gave us two weeks. I called customer service and they said it was because someone who previously lived in our apartment was a Netflix subscriber. So she extended our trial to four weeks (slightly less than a month).

I know you're asking in the Netflix thread so it might not help but Amazon instant streaming just added season 2 of Downton Abbey for free for prime members.

How are you viewing your Amazon streams? I find the browser interface and the Flash UI atrocious, especially if you want to jump to the next episode in a series. Is this handled better on Roku or other types of Media Centers?

Amazon streams on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are pretty nice. Not sure how the other implementations of it are, but I hate just about all PC interfaces, even though mine is hooked up to my TV.

:( i'm not buying a console for that luxury.

i'm spoiled by Netflix.com's improved UI. really obviated the need for having Boxee or Plex installed on my HTPC, and i've switched back to just using IE for online streams and MPC-HD/Lavfilters for my local media.

Why IE for streaming movies?

Also, just watched Iron Man 2. Finally saw IM1 for the first time yesterday. Fun mindless entertainment, but jesus fucking christ was it ridiculous.

Maybe you guys can answer this. Does Available in HD on your TV include PS3/consoles, or is it just HDTVs with netflix apps built in?

Well, starting The Rum Diary. Hopefully it's not a total disappointment. Will report back later...

Just watched Fish Tank. Never thought I'd hear Nas music used to such great affect in a british film... or any film, really. All around great, but certainly not the movie to watch if you want to go to sleep happy.

Speaking of Immortals, how's the plot? I know not to expect much, but is there at least as much of a plot as in The Fall or The Cell or is it basically just a hack'n'slash movie?

There's a little plot to it, but some major holes. It's an excuse for Cavill to be a badass, Pinto to look hot and Rourke to chew some scenery. I'm not really a fan of their interpretation of mythology, but the visuals are spectacular. It's good to have sword fights that aren't hacked (no pun intended) through shit editing and shaky cam.

I hated it. Just was very blah for me. The interpretation of mythology ... especially the Titans ... just ehhhhhhhhhhhh.
Have you seen Wrath of the Titans? I just got it on Blu-ray today and I'm going to watch it this weekend but do you think they do a better job with the Titans?
