Some of the rewards are neat, such as creating a Monster Fighter (too bad it's $500).

Seeing as there can be up to 50, this game is going to have a lot of characters.

While Roguelikes have had some success in trying to get off the ground via crowd funding, I think this is the first instance of an existing older one trying to revive on up? Shame it couldn't get on Kickstarter, but he's specifically not using Flex Funding so the same Kickstarter rules apply. I got a good laugh at the $50K reward level.

In short: Classic Roguelike dev gets a crack team together and aims for the resources to jolt it forward into modern times via fixing, enhancing, and adding long-sought content.

Detective Grimoire (iOS/Android)

Grimoire is called to a mysterious tourist attraction in the middle of a swamp...
As he prepares to use all his skills to solve a murder mystery, one problem arises - the main suspect... is a mythical creature that might not even exist!

It's your job to hunt for clues, interrogate the suspects, solve puzzles along the way and uncover the secret of the swamp... The gameplay is a little like Phoenix Wright, a little like Professor Layton, but with a focus on solving a mystery! Available for iPad, iPhone, Android Tablets and Android phones!

Pledged 10 bucks on this one.

Kaiju Combat is the potential new "Godzilla 4" Kickstarter project, by the team who brought us Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee (GCN, Xbox), Godzilla: Save the Earth (PS2, Xbox), and Godzilla: Unleashed (Wii, PS2)!

This could be really cool.

I feel like this one's worth a thread. There might not be a huge fanbase for these games on GAF, but established developers getting a shot at something they once excelled at usually nets a decent response. With a $350k goal they're going to need all the publicity they can get.

And Haunts is successful. As part of their pitch, they promised to be transparent, and as the first part of it they mentioned how much money they actually received

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all 1,214 of you who pledged your support for Haunts! Our Kickstarter Kicked and I just started the process of transferring $25,075 from Amazon Payments to the Mob Rules Games bank account. We raised $28,739 total, and that $25k is what's left after Kickstarter and Amazon take their piece of the action. A fair trade in my estimation.

So $3,664 in fees is 12.75%. I had always figured it was between 10% and 15%

Looks like Castle Story will be Kickstarting soon
We received confirmation from Amazon that our account is valid and that our Kickstarter account is now linked. We also finished filming all the scenes for the trailer and entered post-production tonight. We still have to get Kickstarter’s official approval for our project, but it is coming together nicely.
I've been following their dev diary for a while now and they're making great progress. A bunch of their diary entries include the work they're doing in the lead-up to Kickstarter.

More game projects should have pledge rewards like this, along with offering them at similar costs. A lot of people will jump at the chance of having their face or voice in a game if it's cheap enough.
I'll keep an eye on this to see how it does, it really deserves some press.

I can't TAKA TAKA TAKA up an article fast enough.

Edit: Maybe two, if I have enough time to interview them.

I'm a big fan of all things Kaiju, so there's no way I wouldn't cover this every waking moment.

Perhaps the only pity is that he ran this campaign while EVO is going on. He's missed out on nearly 5 days of possible press in trying to cater to the FGC, which is one of the targets he's trying to cater to.

Hopefully things will pick up in the next week or so. I really want to see this project come to life.

Why in the hell would they make their second stretch goal a cinematic intro? I can't imagine anyone giving a shit about that. Game stuff first THEN the fluff.

Pretty much all Kickstarters offer rewards like that.

Pretty much all Kickstarters offer rewards like that.

Quite a few do but most charge a lot. To be a pedestrian in Carmageddon cost $1000 as did being a feature weapon, NPC or location in Wasteland 2. It may consume more time and manpower to offer a personal in-game content reward that's aimed at cheaper investors but it would catch the eye of a lot of people.

To his credit, the designer did attend a SRK meet-up to promote it. It's also going to be promoted at G-Fest (a Godzilla fan convention) in Chicago this week, and at San Diego Comic-Con. So it's not a total wash of ideal exposure.

You want some "be in the game" reward tiers? Check out Moon Intern.

It has over a dozen different "BECOME A CHARACTER" tiers, ranging from $40 to $1000.

That's exactly how in-game appearance rewards should be done, by having options cheap enough to tempt casual donors and having higher tiers for more important roles. I'll throw $40 at it should the project succeed.

Paper Sorcerer has hit more than double the goal, still 13 hours left.
He's making some intense stretch goals, including:
Achieved At $9000 you guys get to vote on what the two bonus summons will be! Every backer gets a vote when we reach this level.

Achieved At $9500 I'll make a new skin for the main character! When you start the game you'll get to choose which skin you want. This is for all copies of the game.

Achieved At $10,000 I'll add a new summon, the Giant! I'll also add in several more dungeon levels with new enemies. Every backer gets these, it'll be in every copy.

At $12,000 every backer gets a beta to playtest and I'll listen to all of your input. This'll most likely go out early-mid August so that I can have enough time to take in your input and implement it for the final release.

Why in the hell would they make their second stretch goal a cinematic intro? I can't imagine anyone giving a shit about that. Game stuff first THEN the fluff.
In the description, it says:
we can't guarantee an order for including specific features, because our contributors get a say in how we spend our money. So if the majority of contributors want to see us spend $75,000 on a cinematic intro before we put $100,000 into buying a classic IP - that's how we'll do it!
So I'm pretty sure they'll rearrange the stretch goals according to fan demand, so comments or messages should influence these to change.

Super Techno Kitten Adventure

whatis.jpg

Target: $100,000
Deadline: Aug 7

Lets start with the music, because music is the heart of the TKA universe. STKA brings you all new songs in a wide variety of techno flavors including Happy Hardcore, Gabber Hardcore, J-Core, Freeform and many others! Soundtrack artists include S3RL, Fracus, Hellsystem, M-Project, R-Kade and many more!

Our team has already spent many hours concepting and prototyping to ensure the graphical style and worlds of STKA retain the life, vibrancy and outrageous characteristics of the original TKA while stepping it up to a whole new level, including large fully 3D environments, new graphical effects and hundreds of new characters & objects.

One of our most requested features has definitely been Multiplayer, so that's exactly what we're going to give you! We've been messing around with several different types of Multiplayer & Co-op, so you can expect standard split-screen and online modes in addition to some new variations like tether and race.

It's gonna be a much bigger game then the original one.

I feel like Skyjacker should be getting more attention. It's at $84,000 of $200,000 but it's been stuck there for a while. They did a good job with the pitch and it looks promising, especially considering the rarity of space combat sims.

Wow already about to hit $500k and over half of the allotted console rewards are gone. They're going to have to add more tiers if they want to continue riding this wave

can someone add this to the OP? ^^

I think MrOrange abandoned this thread a long time ago, as it hasn't been updated in months. I have been trying to keep track of all the latest updates, though my post on page 15 is already buried under a lot of pages. So I don't imagine that many people noticed.

But in any case, new update to post: 744.

Deadline: July 20th.

EW-Fractured-Empire-Screen-Shot-1-WL-560.png

"Exodus Wars: Fractured Empire is a 3D turn-based strategy game that captures the core gameplay of miniatures wargaming. It puts players at a Brigade level—allowing them to control and manoeuver infantry, armour companies, and massive super-vehicles such as the mighty Marcovian Behemoth on the futuristic battlefields of the Exodus Wars universe."

Looks awesome, hopefully it gets some love in the next 10 days.

Defense Grid 2 is up. Looking for $1 million to fully fund the game, $250k is the first "goal" though, which funds an expansion for DG1.

What an utter scam. Well, not a scam, but a very questionable project. Did they not make enough money from the first game?

Misleading Kickstarter title is misleading. DG2 is a stretch goal, not the actual kickstarter goal.

And now we begin to see the Kickstarter cash grabs people warned us about a couple months ago.

And by the time people receive the graphics cards, they will be kind of old.

Err, scam? They're an indie studio and while I'm sure they did fine on DG1 that doesn't mean they have a million bucks to make the game. It is a misleading title but that's the only slightly shifty part about it.

Doublefine is successful company but that doesn't they have 900k to make an adventure game, etc.

There is NOTHING wrong with what the DG guys are doing here except having a slightly misleading title BUT the text easily clarifies it so they probably just want to have an attention grabbing name.

As for the videocard being old...I mean they're saying they'll deliver it in September. That's not exactly a long wait...

Backed.

Oh, stop being that guy. A somewhat misleading title is not a scam, they already posted their explanation as to why they need the kickstarter, and all the stretch goals are well presented. I want DG2, but also have no problems with paying $15 for a new expansion to the game. That´s still pretty cheap for such a thing.

And as with any other kickstarter, people support what they want to support, and ignore those they want to.

Here's a new kickstarter project: Steam Bandits: Outpost

Steam Bandits: Outpost will be a Free-to-Play casual game for mobile devices and PC/Mac. In the game, you play as the newly-hired overseer of a burgeoning trade outpost in the floating world of Stratos. Your employer, Atmid Industries, has given you but one objective: make your island into the biggest trade hub you can. Armed with only a handful of gold and your dashingly good looks, it’s up to you to build up your town (literally), attract permanent residents, and learn how to deal with traveling merchants and captains in order to maximize your profit. It’s a tough job, but success will earn you a place as one of the richest, most stylish denizens of Stratos.

Alpha Colony is reaching the end of its Kickstarter. They most likely will not reach their goal (in fact, since the initiators have given up on it and want to relaunch beginning of August this is pretty much assured). They have made a list of 20 things to do wrong:

Lol. In a sense every Kickstarter is questionable, since you as a pledger have no rights with your pledge (i.e. no rewards? These guys give every backer a steam code to DG1, after they pledge. So you can scam them. Pledge something, get the steam code, remove your pledge...
